You know I've never liked Shepard intervening in the Sidonis situation - I usually prefer a closer to equal footing trust thing with Garrus post-Omega, but I just realized how hard that moment is calling back to this, which is one of my favorite Garrus moments because who tf metacognates this way? I love him lol. But its part of what makes his character so fucking fun.

Its what puts him on level with Shepard after Omega, right? Because in that moment their leadership profiles are similar - Garrus's is briefer but he's processing and out loud refining, whereas Shepard does that on the fly, in motion. At least that's what the paragon / renegade system in 2 & 3 implies to me, that her instincts are sound and when she acts on impulse -on subconscious shit- that's when things REALLY work. Garrus has always been better with forethought though, better in this^ space and Shepard pushing him back toward it is such interesting character work both ways.

Garrus is always better when he steps back, takes a beat, and comes in calculated. [resists using his romance research delay as evidence] The guy was a detective for a reason. Is a sniper for a reason. I mean, in more ways than the obvious parallel, Archangel was Garrus playing in Shepard's style.

With Sidonis we see him move back to his natural in the How but not the Why. And Why looks a hell of a lot like what he's talking about here, which...

I haven't played the game in a decade and change and I'm not there yet so I'm sure this is obvious but saying it anyway bc ahhh! I love this game.

my dear friend, I'm going to be honest, I straight up did not mean to reblog that ask game, so I stared at this for the LONGEST time. but I finally figured out what this was referring to, and since I did accidentally reblog it, here we go:

20. A game that made you cry.

all of them??? I am a consistent and unabashed crier at most media, but video games especially. the ones that pop into my head at the moment are dai (I just did here lies the abyss again), da2 (all that remains fucks me up EVERY TIME), and bg3 (all of karlach in act 3).

and of course special mention to ac odyssey, which was the first non-zelda video game I played as an adult, during which I reloaded 16 times thinking I could get to phoibe in time if I just ran a little faster 😭.

21. A game you thought you wouldn’t like, but ended up loving?

bg3, actually! I had the tags for that game blocked for the LONGEST TIME because I hadn't played it and was overwhelmed by all the posts I didn't understand. I also have never played dnd and am number one hater of learning game rules, so I didn't think it would be for me. and when I first tried it out just to test it, I HATED it. I hated the turn-based combat, I didn't understand why there was a giant brain, and I didn't find any of the companions all that interesting. I quit before I got to the end of act 1.

and then I found a mod that let me basically skip the combat, because I very much did not care about that part, and that really helped me actually get through a run. I also played as durge (at your recommendation!!), and that was much more interesting to me.

unfortunately, I am now unable to stop playing the game.

29. Favorite childhood game?

zelda ocarina of time, my first and always love, and source of everlasting water temple fear. I wish I could have link's hookshot in every game.

also tetris on the gameboy color, on which I once broke a world record.

Oo! I've done this recently, but as it's in the Odyssey box, I'll do 5 things on this specifically for fun. The first ones that come to mind are:

The sheer chaos that is Kassandra / Alexios' little home on Kephallonia. All the abandoned hobbies. The questionable scene just below it on the hill. The fact that the wiki says Phoibe lives there too. I just love it.

Herotodos. I know that between the two boat dads, Barnabas is by far the fan favorite, but Herotodos has a VERY special place in my soul. I can't even pinpoint why. He just does.

All the fandom shenanigans around Stentor. I wanted to strangle him in the game, but fanfiction / fanart have completely reversed that. Easily my favorite part of any work he's featured in. Smile every time.

Intentionally fucking up Alkibiades quests and making him irate. It makes the fact that he keeps coming back 10x funnier and led to so many funny headcanons in explanation. Try it. It's worth it, I promise.

That little pool not far from the front of the temple of Apollo in Korinth. I've spent far too much time there <3
