Xiamen Airlines’ new uniforms a hit online

China’s Xiamen Airlines released a set of studio shots of their stewards on Sunday, to promote the company’s new uniforms, which will be in use ahead of the Chinese New Year. This is the first time that the company has changed the uniforms for stewards since it was founded in 1984. The uniforms designed by Taiwanese designer Chen Jimin have wowed many netizens.

Assessment Day

April 2015

So I was invited to an assessment day but on the morning of that day I had failed to finalize a few documents & I hadn’t got together some full length & head-shot photos. I contacted the organisation asking to reschedule my assessment day as by then I wasn’t feeling too good and not in the right frame of mind.

Luckily, I was able to slot in to the following weeks assessment day so I made sure I was super organised this time.

The day had come, suited and booted, my lovely girlfriend drove me to the head office where the assessment day was being held, dropped me off and wished me luck.

Walking in through the door I saw & joined a line of very smartly dressed people who were a part of the assessment day. One by one, we collected our name badges and made our way upstairs to have our paperwork checked and see how well prepared we were. They ticked off various things we are asked to bring with us - passports, driving licences, birth certificates, first aid certificates, etc. Then we went in to a room to be measured before sitting ourselves down in a classroom style room.

We were sat in tables of about 6 people with a company representative overseeing how we interacted with eachother. We watched a video of the company and we were given talks by present employees. This really got me excited to see the potential new career and lifestyle I could have.

Our tables were to be our teams as we worked on team building exercises. These included Lego building, and we had to present to the rest of the teams our creation from a scenario we were given.

We moved tables and mixed up the teams to solve a different scenario where as a team we had to prioritize certain factors within a task sheet, at the same time we were being watched and assessed on how we worked in a team and what we contributed. We were half way through the day and were told to go for lunch, for some of us, that would be it, and for the lucky selected few, we would get a phone call inviting us back in as we had been successful to move on to the next stage.

The wait was intense, waiting for my phone to ring. I paced up and down the road outside then saw a few of the other potential candidates and we sat together at a food bar.

One by one, each of our phones rang, I got the ‘YES’ and headed back to the assessment centre. Back there I saw others turn up who were also successful and some who didn’t make it to the afternoon session were nowhere to be seen.

Back upstairs the successful 14 of us (cut down from about 40+) were congratulated and we sat down to fill out masses of paperwork which included airport security passes, criminal record checks, applications for many, many things and more. During filling out the paperwork we were asked to go through to a two-on-one interview. My interview seemed to go well as I was asked about many things including past experiences where things haven’t quite gone to plan. I got a really good vibe and felt I did my best.

After completing the paperwork, the day was complete.

Now would be a waiting game as we were put in to a pool of candidates to see if we were successful in being offered employment.

So I was on the plane yesterday and I had the rudest air host. I cannot hear on air planes at all. She was so rude and the whole time she just made me think about how much I hate hearing people, because of how she acted.
