Fairy Tale February Day 4 - Rule
“Day and Night”
There was once a King of fire and suns, and a Queen of the moon, and seas. The two fought over dominion of the sky for ages. The Queen, who was wise, battled for balance. The King, who was stubborn and quick to temper, would not stop until he ruled the sky completely. After a time had passed, the Queen made an offer to the King. She told him that if she could keep the flowers of the world in bloom and the mouths of the world fed, she would let him rule over all. The King laughed and agreed, believing it to be a simple task. He shown the sun bright over the earth. At first the flowers bloomed and the people could grow and work more in the daylight, and had more food. But soon the flowers began to wilt, and the heat brought drought to the land. The mouths of the world became hungry and dry. The Queen told the King that the sun and fire was good, but the world needed darkness and oceans as well. The King agreed finally once he’d seen. The two agreed to each rule over half the sky making the day and the night.

Fairy Tale February Day 5 - Stitch
“The Ort Jarr”
There was once a girl who was plagued day and night by bad spirits. They would come into her house and make messes, break dishes, and tangle all of her knitting. She couldn’t sleep because they’d fly around telling bad jokes and scary stories. Finally she’d had enough of it and sought help for her problems. When she went into town for more yarn, the shopkeeper told her to keep a jar on her windowsill and to put all of her string scraps in it. The girl went home and did as instructed. As she cut tails from her knitting and sewing, she nested them into the jar. After some time it had filled with a rainbow of yarn, string, and thread. When the bad spirits came once again to plague her, they fell into the jar and were tangled into the thread. She was never bothered by them again. Her jar sat proud in the window from then on. To this day, many folks collected their scrap threads, called orts, into jars.

Fairy Tale February Day 7 - Wind
“The Girl and The Field of Wasps”
Some time ago, there was a farming village that was surrounded by fields and crops. One day, a cloud of wasps came from the west and infested the fields. Their presence brought a famine to the village. The people of the village gathered together to find a solution when a young lady with bright hair offered her help. They all denied her, knowing she was just a young girl who surely knew nothing. Instead they tried smoking the wasps away, but their eyes burned and the wasps became angry. Then they tried letting the chickens eat them, but the chickens were stung and ran away. Finally farmers tried poison, but it only made the plants and soil sick. The girl watched patiently each attempt before she said again she could help. The farmers were at their wits end and finally agreed to let her help. The girl walked out to the field with a jug of water and two linen cloths. She stood at the edge of the field of wasps and poured the water over the cloths. She smacked them both against a large rock and a small breeze picked up. She smacked them down again, and a gust swept by. She hit the rock with the linen again and this time a torrent of wind rushed through the fields. It didn’t die down until every wasps had been swept away, never to return to the fields. From then on, the village listened when help was offered by anyone, no matter who, and the girl with bright hair became the adviser to the people.
