Reaver 📶 has been designed to be a handy and effective tool to attack Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) register PINs keeping in mind the tip goal to recover WPA/WPA2 passphrases. An often overlooked feature on many WiFi routers and access points is WiFi Protected Setup (WPS). This is a convenient feature that allows the user to connect to Wifi router by simultaneously pressing a button on both the access point and the client device at the same time. But a tool called Reaver has been designed to brute-force the WPA handshaking process remotely, even if the physical button hasn’t been pressed on the access point. In short, red teamers and pentesters are the offense. The blue team is the defense. . Penetration testers differ from Red Team in their mission which is to discover vulnerabilities through a rigorous methodical approach. It is usually a 1-2 week engagement, well defined and generally announced to the company's security teams. . Red Team ❣️ is not as methodical which allows for creativity and flexibility. The goal is to emulate TTPs ( tactics, techniques, procedures) used by adversaries and test the overall security program. . The Red Team finds gaps in employee skills, blue team response capabilities, processes, policies and tools. It's not about how many vulnerabilities are found. These engagements last much longer than pentests; up to 6 months and are often not announced to the company's security team. . Red Team can expose flaws in security, that may be missed by security audits and compliance. They focus more on vulnerablities in the security program versus the application itself.
