I’m replaying pmd:sky and playing the special episodes as I unlock them since it seems like they want you to pause the main story to play them. In my first run or two I never played the special episodes, so yeahhhh I’m doin it properly now.
At the end of Bidoof’s wish, Bidoof makes the decision to not make a wish for himself, but instead wishes for a new member of the guild he can help out:
Which is a cute ending and all, tying back into the main characters in the present.
The game then comes back to the present (the day after you first join the guild) where Bidoof comments on how his wish came true. I noticed here that you and your partner point out each other’s puffy eyes:
They just laugh it off as a lack of sleep since they had just arrived at the guild. But I think that they probably cried or teared up in their sleep, being relayed the information about Bidoof’s Wish subconsciously through Jirachi or the player’s experience.
The partner is the one who points out the player’s appearance first, which made me think it might be a meta comment to the actual player, maybe assuming the story made you tear up. But then the player character points the same thing out to the partner, so it’s not that… exactly…
From the player’s perspective, we just went through Bidoof’s Wish and then come to the present where the main characters make this comment. Now it could be explained away as tears of happiness from joining or lack of sleep like they said, but it doesn’t make sense for the player to cry for joy when they don’t have the same vested interest as the partner in the narrative. It’s clearly supposed to relate to the special story, considering the order of events.
Jirachi is the wish pokemon, but is also known to sleep a lot. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were able to convey this information to the player and partner that night, as it was the night the wish came true. In the meta context, you are literally the character in the game (sort of), so it’s set up in a way where the information you’re given outside the game ties back into the in game characters. And so they teared up in their sleep, but without knowing why.
