The Nakamura Shinya incident is set in Iruma (in the anime)
I rewatched OAD 1 tonight and just noticed the taxi says 入間 (Iruma) on the side. This means that at least according to the anime, Shinya was living in the same town as Kei, since Iruma is Kei’s hometown.
[I wrote this right after I watched the OAD so it’s grown on me slightly since then, but... tl;dr Satou’s not my favorite character]
I’m kind of disappointed... there wasn’t really anything new, and it made me like Satou even less that I already did. It was like the Vietnam flashback chapter, but not in Vietnam, and it didn’t make Satou seem clever or cool, just bloodthirsty and pointlessly destructive. But then again, that’s why I’ve always leaned towards Kei’s side.
If there were new points, it was that Almeida has been around since the beginning of the whole Ajin thing. It also hinted that Satou had really close proximity to the Soldier of God, which in some theories could be relevant to how people become ajin (maybe it’s communicable?), but especially with the most recent chapter I feel like those theories will be disproved.
The writing felt really plain too. Mostly of the dialogue was various comments following along previous themes of “Are ajin human?” and “Would Satou really take on fighting an entire country?”. And the part where we see him finding out he’s an ajin wasn’t even related to the rest of the OAD?? If I had to give one good point it’s that the anime writers are trying as hard as they can not to contradict canon. The recent chapter about Satou vs. gangsters in Japan is still plausible in anime timeline.
The most interesting scene to me was Satou deciding not to shoot himself. (Also did I mention there’s no dialogue in that scene, yesss) I also liked the scene where he decides to go get Tanaka right at the end, mostly because I didn’t see it coming.
And finally TERRY why would you invite Satou to go live with you in the tropics AFTER he beat you up and left you in an active battleground where he then massacred everyone, fought his comrades, and you shot him in the leg
that said that does sound an awful lot like @pleasesavetanaka‘s fic Defender
Rewatching with some additional thoughts:
Tranquilizer rifles, that’s something we never saw before. Or I forgot.
Why tell the soldiers to keep the Soldier of God a secret if it gets announced publicly anyway? There’s some contradiction between merging the Satou’s Secret Mission in Vietnam and Who the first Ajin is. ...I guess they do mention the government tried to hide it and it didn’t work.
Original fan subtitles. Thanks to @pleasesavetanaka for posting the original PV on tumblr.
A few notes:
1) My crappy conversion software deleted the final on-screen text translation. The complete sentence should be “Ajin Satou’s violent past is divulged.”
2) Translator’s note: At one point Satou (Fox) tells his commander(?) “I'd rather you not get in my way.” I thought this was interesting because at the end of season 2, Satou tells Kei that he hates people who get in his way more than anything.
Ok so I know you gave us the subs for the new oda but how can I find the video ? Pls help me
So far the conclusion is that animeplus has the raw video, and the link to the subs is available on Reddit, but no one has hard-subbed the subs onto the video yet… so as of now I don’t know of anywhere to watch it subbed online. (If anyone else can help out please don’t hesitate to comment/reblog!)
You can download them here! (let me know if the link doesn’t work)
To use the subtitle file, make sure the sub file and a downloaded copy of the video have the same file name (except for the file type extension), then put them together in a folder, and open the video in VLC player- the subs should appear automatically.
Translator’s journal-
Thanks to @aguspiral for providing access to the video and @pleasesavetanaka for editing the subtitles!
I told a friend I was doing subs and they said, “Oh, how long does that take, about twice as long as the episode? (~1 hour?) So I’d like to inform you that it took about… maybe around 10 hours? I’m hoping I can speed up the process. I accept payment for the time in the form of words of gratitude :D)
They match the video posted by @yamsguchi in this post. Thanks for the video!
If there’s any problems with the subs or the file please let me know! It’s the first time I’ve done subtitles but it was pretty fun, and I think they turned out well!
