Jerash and Ajloun

Our third excursion was to the Roman ruins Jerash and the castle Ajloun in the North.

Jerash is the largest Roman ruins outside of Rome and approximately only 5% of the city has been excavated. I have seen many small ruins in Morocco and throughout Jordan, but nothing prepared me for the size of Jerash. Qa'lat ar-Rabad (1184) on a hilltop at Ajloun is one of the only medieval castles in Jordan built by the Arabs. Its purpose was to limit the expansion of Crusader territory.
