i linked the description of the film above so i won't explain much. i'm just explaining in case you don't want to get outta tumblr kshfsjvj anyways... as you already guessed, the film takes place in brazil (duhhh) but more specifically, in the city of rio de janeiro. the film portraits the lives of poor people who live in a (real!) favela called cidade de deus (city of god) so yeah, that's where the title comes from. of all these people, it's mostly focused on telling the history of this dude called Zé Pequeno (or Lil Dice for my fellow english speakers) and the short version is: he's a drug dealer, he uses young boys (who are poor and need money to buy food, clothes, etc) to work for him doing some errands, teaches them how to shoot, kill, etc. i'm not spoiling the whole film but at the end these same children will kill him (here's the link if you want to check out the scene. it shows no blood or anything since it's from a different character's pov but you hear gunshots. also just skip to 2:00 minutes). and that's, my friends, the point i wanted to reach!!
Terano, just like these boys, lives in a favela in rj, was taught by Dino (who plays the same role as Lil Dice) that violence is the only way — he was still a baby when he first killed someone. with violence he could gain power and money, with violence he could escape his reality (a sick mother and poverty, who would want to keep on living like that?). at the end, he killed Dino — not the same reason as the boys in the film, no, but that's not the point. the point is that he bit back the person who put him in that path, just like the boys and became the leader of the gang, just like the boys!!!
