Kye sook-sensei teaching military tactics
New fic idea but it’s Zeno having a crisis over what counts as adultery except not really because it’s reincarnated Kaya but WAIT turns out she’s actually reincarnated several times and because the dragon’s blood is gone (this is relevant bc the reason Kaya is able to reincarnate is bc she managed to come into contact with ouryuus blood when she was with Zeno so every time she dies she essentially flags heaven’s TSA and they send her back to earth) this means that while she gets to be normal she has now reincarnated for the first time without her memories (she has had her memories throughout all her past lives). She spawns somewhere outside the earth tribe village, Cheol-ran takes her in. She’s lowkey looked after by Yuno and Geuntae who give her a job helping Kija out with tea business. Somehow this leads to Kija visiting the palace with her or Yoon and Zeno visiting the earth tribe for some reason or other and they meet. And Zeno starts falling for her. And cue crisis.
I’m planning to find excuses to bring HHB together regularly, and at some point they all realize Zeno is in love and sibling bonding and shenanigans ensue. Also we get bestie Yoon and Kaya bc he’s trying to fix her amnesia. And Yona Kaya bestieship bc yes. And Hak+ dragons meeting her and thinking she’s cool and being protective of her bc the DYNAMIC WOULD BE SO PEAK ANYWAYS the best ideas come to me when I’m in an airport and my flight is delayed sorry for the ramble I needed to blegh rq
also Kayazeno is much more tragic in this one. Zeno is under the impression Kaya was burned alive after the village people found out she was still around. She was not. She managed to escape and died trying to find him. Repeat cycle for the 3 or 4 times she reincarnates.
Chapter 3 of my AkaYona Modern AU Sequel fic goes up tomorrow! I hope everyone looks forward to it! The series can be read [here]. Have a preview of the new chapter below!
Yun also waved, though he said, “Are we ready to get started? I know we can’t move things until Hak and Kija get here with the truck, but given Su-won didn’t get to pack or sort anything before he left, we’ve probably got plenty to go through.”
“Right! Shinah, Jaeha, will you two go grab the boxes we brought in the car?” she asked, already fishing the key to the apartment that Su-won had given her out of her pocket.
“On it,” Jaeha said, heading back for the stairs with Shinah in tow.
“...About that,” Joo-doh said, though he didn’t get a chance to finish. The lock clicked open, and Yona pushed open the door.
She froze in the doorway, floored.
When she pictured what Su-won’s apartment might look like, she had always pictured an orderly apartment that was tastefully decorated. Su-won’s tastes had always leaned towards the simplistic and comfortable, so he’d probably pick practical and unobtrusive furniture. He’d favor bookshelves to keep all his books, and he’d definitely have organizers on his desk.
All such preconceptions regarding Su-won’s organizational skills were utterly shattered.
The apartment was a mess. Not with garbage, thankfully—though no one had taken out what was in the trash can by the door, judging by the smell, which was no surprise but something they’d need to take care of—but with stacks of books and papers. They were stacked on every surface, even stacked against the wall, to the point where it was hard to judge where it ended and the floor began. He only seemed to own one bookshelf, too, and the poor thing’s shelves had bowed in the middle from being overloaded with thick textbooks and binders.
“...It’s about what I expected,” Joo-doh said, peering over Yona’s shoulder.
He was so funny for this
Today's sad Kija
AkaYona daily affirmation #5: Hak's character arc is great
It's also three-prong! Early Hak's development is centered around his feelings for Yona, how they're unrequited and how he needs to learn to back off and let her take risks. Then, his character development shifts to learning to trust and form friendships again, trusting his friends with Yona's safety and to have his back after being betrayed by the friend he trusted most at the beginning of the story. And then finally, there's also an element of learning to solve problems non-violently, following Yona's lead on that.
It's great! He goes from begging Yona not to take risks and wanting to hide her away by force if necessary to wanting to show her off, wanting to make everyone who doubted her regret it, and actively encouraging her to hunt bears and calling her cool. He goes from wanting Kija out of the party after he first joins to actively hugging and relying on him and Jaeha like older brothers. He goes from nearly murdering Su-won in the streets in a rage at just the sight of him to being able to work and speak and reconcile with Su-won, to talking things through and befriending Hakuryuu, to stopping Yona from killing Zeno because he knows that just can't be the way to solve this.
It's fantastic! Hak is actually a pretty multi-faceted character who changes a lot over the course of the story.
The water tribe arc is kind of mid ngl 😭 I really don't think enough was done with the nadai, and imo there wasn't enough of a reason to care for the water tribe citizens. What made the fire tribe arc great was that even though they weren't fleshed out, we got to see the fire tribe citizens as people suffering. That way we could actually care about their plight and therefore be invested in Yona working to help them, and Taejun coming into his role as someone with the power and drive to really help his tribe. With the water tribe arc, all the victims of nadai with the exception of like... that one girl who Jaeha helped are just faceless zombies. While I love Lili, it's harder to get invested in her desire to help her tribe when her tribe is faceless. (Also her arc is too similar to Taejun for a arc coming directly after his). I wish the nadai felt like more of a threat. For example, what if Jaeha was tempted by it after taking it once? A strong character like Jaeha tempted by it would easily make it feel serious, and we would have a direct emotional investment in the threat of it. Or having another original character being the one to show the effects of it and try to fight against it, then work together with Lili to make the water tribe a better place. Also, Hiyou is the WORST villain in the manga. He's evil just to be evil, and he doesn't even have any reason to be selling nadai. His whole thing about looking perfect has nothing to do with the nadai either. Plus he's a stereotype. Like.... what does this guy even do. He's more of a gag villain than anything, with mindless goons and everything and it sucks. The water tribe arc just has a lot of missed potential imo
Idk how I somehow never noticed that Hak drops the 'Lord' title he was using for Soowon out of respect immediately after his betrayal. While of course, he never stops referring to Yona formally despite how close they get out of respect for her and her position. I love you Hak
