Any tips on writing Latino Roman? I don't want to portray anything incorrect or harmful
God I feel like I'm the least qualified person you could ask, but I can. Try.
Well first it's important to note that there's already lots of stigma around making Roman and Remus Latino. Often, not always, but often they end up being that ✨sexy✨ flamboyant flirtatious Latino man stereotype and that is. Not good. Personally, I don't think it's inherently wrong to making either of them Latino (I don't speak for every Latinx person ofc and I am incredibly biased, so please keep that in mind). Just. Write him the way you'd write a person, and avoid sexualizing him.
Stereotypes to avoid are ofc the Angry Latino stereotype. Literally. No one will start yelling at you in Spanish if you make them angry over one little thing. And it's just very sickening to see.
Also bilingual people don't “slip into” speaking an entirely different language mostly. Like ofc maybe saying something small every now and again would be common (calling people mija/o muttering Dios mío beneath your breath, small thins that people would understand) but. Other than that people usually only really speak a different language when. They're around people who speak the language.
Do not for the love of god use descriptors like “exotic” or whatever. For any race really. You are writing a human person, not a rare collectible object.
Latino does not mean Mexican. There are many Latinx countries, so choose one and do your research. Because I can assure you that the culture will be vv different.
