Robot Master Relationship: Elec Man

When Aki first met Elec Man, he could say the guy had a few screws loose. Maybe even the whole case of screws missing, according to Mini. Elec Man’s a boastful, fast and quite crazy, but his electricity powers are remarkable.

After a long, long week of boring exams (Chemistry Man made him study when he deemed Miss CHO’s classes to be insufficient), Aki’s a bit down, feeling ready to fall asleep with every second that passes.

Upset to see such a slow and tired robot, Elec Man urges him to either get out of his sight or recharge like he does all the time with his prongs. As a result, when Mega Man does so, Elec Man makes a friend.

By that, it means that two overexcited electricity controlling robots are jumping all over the place, making weird noises.

(Mini is hanging on to his seat, feeling about to puke).

Breaker doesn’t consider it a big deal until much later. Aki runs a marathon at school and gets at the top of PE class, but is severely advised by many teachers to take a rest and maybe take less sugar.

(some people start wondering if Breaker didn’t put something in Aki’s food to make him act hyperactive. Considering how he hates that kind of people, they assume Aki did it to himself)

It’s later that things get out of control. Wave Man is uncertain about how to react when Aki runs laps around the house like a Wild Runner, not sure if he should attach a mop to Aki’s feet to clean faster or just give him slippers.

(Breaker has gone from ignoring him to slowly look so done with it, especially since he can’t even drink coffee without getting splashed on the face at every second)

Ultimately, before they decide to put him on a leash, the kid finally calms down and faints on the floor, with Elec Man encouraging him to do it all over again. Mini and Breaker immediately say “NO!”

Overall, while Elec Man’s a crazy guy, he’s a crazy fun guy, and Aki admits he loves being fast and the powers are pretty cool and useful, especially in a world where there’s so many robots.

(they sometimes do recharge in secret before going off to goof around together, albeit Aki gets a better hang of the power craze as it goes on)

Has there ever been a time where Breaker physically, verbally, mentally, or emotionally abused Aki Night?

Not openly.

Aki doesn’t dare contradict, infuriate or contrary his adoptive father due to being trained into a mindset that “robots are tools, so is he, and he must act like he’s expected to”. Breaker never hurt him, but he did manipulate him a lot.

He convinced Aki of his propaganda and is making sure he’s obedient and not as volatile as the other Robot Masters. Aki would ALMOST be as much of a threat as Namagem, if he had less limited schematics and more confidence (and if he wasn’t acting so human, going to school like everyone).

Mentally and emotionally, it is abuse since he’s making Aki think less of himself to keep him in line, then manipulate him into thinking that, since he’ll be “the savior of robots”, as long as he obeys Night, everything will be alright.

But rather than straightforward abuse, he goes for playing with Aki’s view of himself to make him do his bidding.

He’d never abuse Aki on intent unless he ever decided to rebel (in a Rapunzel/Mother Gothel way, except Gothel didn’t care at all), in which case it’d be a battle between the two of them.

But with the way things are going, Breaker isn’t gonna act brutal with him any time soon, and Aki isn’t gonna stand up to him either. However, if things turn out right, Aki may actually set him on a better path altogether…

Robot Master Relationship: Chemistry Man

When school starts, Aki is initially just as bored as every other student in Mr. NRT’s class, unable to take the classes seriously. He however doesn’t mention that school is boring because he knows it’ll get him in trouble.

(this gives him an excuse to study with Ashley, not that he’s admitting he likes her yet)

Then, Aki is thrown for a surprise as Breaker hires ANOTHER member of the school staff, which is Mr. NRT renamed into Chemistry Man. Which means Aki now gets private science lessons.

Those lessons still being boring as always, Aki ends up falling asleep more than usual, but his grades improve well, impressing the Light kids and the other kids Aki knows since they didn’t know he was such a hard worker.

(Elec Man dislikes Chemistry Man because him being here means things are slow for Aki when he’s there, and he hates that. Everyone also dislikes him acting like he’s smarter than everyone).

During his attack on the school, he traps everyone in green bubbles. Including Aki who is caught off guard when he and the other students get dragged away into the gym for a speech.

(Mega Mini is insulting Chemistry Man while being unable to move, and he and Breaker both tear Chemistry Man down verbally for potentially endangering Aki).

Later, Aki suggests he and Ashley have a group study again because it’s been so long and he is looking for an excuse to be with her doesn’t have his private tutor at home at the moment.

She brings Dr. Light’s other robot son along, much to Aki’s despair. And if it doesn’t help, they go to an art exhibit in honor of Namagem.

(There’s also an exhibit for Mega Man, as some people believe he’s a hero for some of his more ambiguous actions. Aki finds them funny but wonders when they’ve had all the time to prepare all of this while he was helping tearing down the city)

Then, Chemistry Man strikes and traps them into the museum. Namely, he makes it so that Aki is stuck with Ashley while Namagem deals with the Robot Master attack.

During the battle, thanks to his studying, Aki is able to help solving the riddle when he and Ashley come along, effectively impressing the two others (though Namagem feels a bit jealous).

Then, Namagem manages to figure out it’s all about action figures, comics and superhero costumes. This leads Aki to reveal he never had comics or video games at home because of his strict dad, much to Ashley and Namagem’s concerned surprise.

At the end, Ashley leaves and waves goodbye to the boys, and Aki himself returns home. He discovers that while Breaker scheduled the attack, trapping him in there with Ashley was actually Chemistry Man’s plan.

(he noticed there was something between the two of them while they were in his class, so he thought he could help things move forward. One thing he and the other Robot Masters all agree on: Aki and Ashley, despite not being the same species, do have “amazing chemistry”).

Aki suggests at school that next time they have a group study together, they could invite Suna and Bert to make it less awkward (and keep Namagem grounded while he’s trying to get Ashley’s attention since one’s his sister and the other his best friend). Namagem agrees under the condition Aki helps him with his chemistry lessons.

Aki initially refuses, until he gets to borrow comics and video games from his twin as repayment.

Robot Master Relationship: Wave Man

On a patrol night around Silicon City, Mega Man hears a lot of crying, and finds Wave Man mourning his lost alligator, as he floods the entire city. Interested, he copies his schematics and goes to talk, but Wave Man is more stubborn than expected and waves him away. With a water geyser coming out of his arm.

(When falling into the water, he gets back to the surface and finds Rush. And Suna, who took Rush for a walk because her robot brother was too irresponsible to admit he took part in the mess and she needed some refreshing air. He gets her and Rush to safety, making her suspicious about his intentions. Is he an enemy, or a friend?)

After Wave Man gets a beatdown from Namagem, Mega Man manages to snatch him away from the Good Guild before they take him away. He takes the heartbroken, alligator-less robot to the base.

(Needless to say, Breaker was satisfied of Aki’s performance. Recruiting a new member for their Robot Master army on his own, and getting away with it undetected. Well, to his knowledge).

Wave Man now being a Robot Master and part of the team, he’s VERY excited about his new friends. Even if they’re not all that willing.

(He cleans around the house, helps Aki and Mega Mini make sure they’re clean for the day so that they smell fresh and don’t get dirt in their circuits like it happened one time too many before. Mini loves smelling springtime fresh, but not having to empty the water himself.)

His relationships with the others is mostly like his canon ones, he still has the same weird odd friendship (that often escalates into fighting) with Fire Man.

Wave Man also appreciates what Aki does a lot. Even if he couldn’t find Alligator, his pet alligator, Aki has been supporting him and advising him to open up even after he flushed him down the flooded streets, and Aki often tries to clean up more thanks to Wave Man’s good influence on him.

He also tries to keep his temper more with Aki around, since Aki would know losing one’s temper isn’t the way to go or make people agree with you (he doesn’t get mad with his dad, because he knows it’ll backfire but also because patience is the key when you work with Breaker Night).

Aki would often put himself between Wave Man and Fire Man whenever they argue, acting as a mediator and being able to calm them down before they wreck the whole place.

(He also discusses about animals like robot dogs and dolphins with Wave Man, because he’d love to have a pet too, robotic or not. Which is why they’re both kinda fond of Rush, despite his owner being their enemy).

Later, during the Light staycation weekend at Silicon City’s lake, Wave Man and Fire Man land in the middle of the town completely beaten up, moisture dried out and arguing constantly. Mega Man has to wonder what made them so much against each other.

Most of the time, Wave Man doesn’t like the mess Aki brings whenever he copies a robot’s new schematics or whenever there’s trouble, so he cleans up after him a lot. Needless to say, there’s A LOT to take care of when you're friends with a powerhouse like Mega Man.

(When Rush gets his new armor, while Aki is a bit concerned because his dad almost killed the robot dog, he and Wave Man gush about his new suit for hours long, wishing they could’ve had the same on their team.)

Robot Master Relationship: Blasto Woman

During a visit to the museum for a school report, Aki finds a robot robber, calling herself Blasto Woman, attacking to get rare weapons and priceless items. Seeing all she wants is money, he decides to stay back and observe to see if she could make a good member of their army for his dad.

(Before that, he meets the Light children and Peter Punk, dealing with the same history assignment. While they’re getting started on it, Aki is just here to gather small additional details to complete his. It’s really helpful to have a sergeant as your caretaker, he knows a lot of stuff about past wars).

During the fight, his twin brother-who-doesn’t-know-they’re-related-yet fights Blasto Woman, allowing Aki to see her techniques.

As she has no interesting schematics and tried to steal a weapon that doesn’t work (though he has his doubts since he heard its reactor function after that Peter put it back), he doesn’t think Breaker would be interested in hiring her, and leaves what-could-have-been-his-siblings do the work.

Next time, before their next mission Mega Mini has been receiving some flack for not doing much, beside being inside Aki’s head. Little dude is annoyed by his fellow robots’ remarks because if it wasn’t for him, Aki would be in pieces already.

Blasto Woman has been stealing some tech, including some of Breaker’s most performant drones. Mega Man has to track her across town, until she takes on him by surprise, dropping her stolen weapons and accidentally knocking Mega Mini away in the process.

Mega Man goes back home oblivious to what happened, and that’s when the craziness starts.

At first believing Aki is subject to Elec Man’s schematics again, Breaker suggests Aki gets rid of that excessive energy. The fact Aki changes expressions a million times in less than five seconds has him running a scan.

He discovers Mega Mini is missing. Since he’s an expert in robotics, he manages to fix up some of the damage done to his son, but some of it is just too complex for one human to do, he’s not Dr. Light either.

With the simple work taking effect temporarily, Night orders the robots to keep an eye on Aki while he’s looking for a solution, make sure he doesn’t endanger himself, leading them to learn how necessary Mega Mini actually is.

The same kitchen scenes from “Minus Mini” play out, with a very frustrated Wave Man replacing Suna for the broken plates and the toothpaste everywhere (this causes a fight with Fire Man who finds him ridiculous all covered in robot teeth polish).

Elec Man sees absolutely nothing wrong with Aki, since his lunatic tendencies make him oblivious to the issue. Chemistry Man does attempt a few things, but Aki jumping around and spazzing out like crazy gives him a headache, interrupting him at every attempt to fix his circuits.

Guts Man and Drill Man finally manage to calm him out (more like, restrain him with their respective powers because he’s out of control). They’re practically begging for some rest when Lord Obsidian returns.

(He had to fight an upgraded Blasto Woman who wanted a lot of money in exchange for Mega Mini, money Breaker had no interest of giving away for the sake of a tiny robot. He almost considered Mini a backstabber, until it’s revealed he sabotaged Blasto Woman’s new blasters to eventually crash into the sewer walls)

Back at the base, Mini looks in confusion at everyone who look like they could use a fix, unaware of what Aki made them go through. He happily goes back inside the kid’s head, repairing his systems back into being operational.

The Robot Masters all admit they were wrong about him not being useful, because without him, Aki wouldn’t be the kind, friendly and fully functioning robot they know.

(Mega Mini gets a kick out of awaiting the same thing from Lord Obsidian, who’s progressively losing patience at admitting he needed his help to fix Aki’s problem in front of everyone, as well as admitting he was impressed by his tactic of tricking Blasto Woman into knocking herself out. Everyone around, including Aki, is silently laughing at the exchange).

Robot Master Relationship: Hypno Woman

When Aki first goes at school, he’s mostly nervous and feels quite uncomfortable being around so many people, especially since he has to pretend that he doesn’t like robots to keep up the facade with his “dad”.

Feeling uneasy, he often gets the advice of going to the school’s advice counselor, who sees he may be hiding something, but Aki denies it and just avoids her as much as possible.

When said guidance counselor becomes Hypno Woman and hypnotizes the whole school, Mega Man has to stop her, both because he doesn’t want his friends enslaved, and because as terrible things are going, she has good intentions for doing that, which wouldn’t support Breaker’s “humans and robots can’t get along” moral.

Next time he encounters her, Mega Man goes around town to scan the place and find where she’s hiding, since Breaker decided to recruit her.

(Aki does not like this idea at all. Breaker seems a little bit too set on getting Hypno Woman to join, and Aki is scared that Breaker gets too interested and that he ends up with a stepmom. Mini agrees it’d be terrible)

Meanwhile, Breaker decided to take a look at what Dr. Light has been doing recently, goes around town to find out what he might be doing, just so he could sabotage it.

When he finds Thomas at a romantic dinner night with a woman named Mari, and he also finds his “son” playing butler in that same restaurant, he learns what’s going on and aids Mega Man sabotaging the date (AKA ironically bringing them closer instead) so that Hypno Woman would snap and reveal her more dangerous nature to everyone.

(Breaker also has to go back at his table every now and then to pretend he isn’t responsible for what’s going on, actually orders something to eat that Mega Man goes to fetch. They both find the whole gig awkward.)

Since that doesn’t go anywhere, Mega Man decides to simply ruin Hypno Woman’s plan by going on the disco ball, but he’s stopped by her Glitterbots before the countdown ends, and before he can whip out his own Glitterbots to reverse the situation, Hypno Woman’s plan succeeds.

When they realize she just really wanted a date and wasn’t planning on hypnotizing anyone, Breaker and Mega Man realize she’s too good-willing to ever become evil, especially since according to Thomas the next day, “she’s just overzealous”, and give it a break.

(When Thomas comes by the table, Mega Man quickly reverts to Aki and he and Breaker pretend they were having dinner between father and son, smiling awkwardly and nervously while Dr. Light is completely oblivious. Aki still enjoyed it though)

Later on, when Mega Man becomes much more known to the public, he decides there’s way too much focus on him when he’s supposed to be Breaker’s special secret weapon, not a robot cryptid. So he uses Hypno Woman’s schematics.

He’s able to convince a good bunch of reporters and photographers they should be looking for other stuff instead, and that a mysterious robot like him isn’t what they should write articles about. Cue the schematics going wild.

He hypnotizes his music and art teachers like in canon, except instead of Suna, he gets to Breaker instead, who wanted him to use those schematics for more destructive, manipulative plans.

(For info, Aki convinced Breaker that he should maybe stop doing all sorts of hostile stuff and try to be nice to everyone for a change if he wants support for his propaganda. The Light family is understandably confused as to why Sergeant Night passes by, helping an old lady robot cross the road, and waving at them while wishing them a nice day with a warm smile).

He discovers what’s going on a few hours later, thanks to his Robot Master friends pointing out the weird blue things behind his back. They just gotta wait the hypnotic effects fade off quick and that Breaker doesn’t remember what happened.

Aki realizes he should take his powers and role more seriously if he doesn’t want to cause a mess again, as well as that he’s responsible for getting other’s attention, he has to become more sneaky and tactical like his “dad” is.

(Drill Man does remark that Aki has been pretty good at psychoanalyzing Breaker when the schematics were still active. Too bad he can’t help the rest of them out with those issues, a therapist at home would be a GREAT help).

Robot Master Relationship: Ice Man

Following on this post where I established Ice Man’s role in his first ep, I’ll just describe how he affects Aki in general in the AU now that I’ve watched both of his episodes so far.

When Mega Man is out looking for a robot to scan to fuel Night’s propaganda, only to find a lawn mower, he goes back to being Aki and expresses out loud that some of the robots nowadays look useless and should be helping humans out, standing by their side all the time, to help his dad out (and because he feels a bit useless himself). The TV records that and broadcasts his words like in canon, even if they’re different now.

Ice Man, still watching, assumes that everything would be better if he just put Robots and Humans together all the time, so they’d be side by side and robots would be helpful to humans. Rather than a hero, this Ice Man would adopt a “helper” persona to make people happy.

(Aki’s negative speech does earn him detention for arriving late, and his “dad” is a bit annoyed, though he’s satisfied with his performance as Mega Man).

Then, Ice Man arrives at school and freezes everyone. Night comes there so that he could supervise Aki’s mission this time around, but both “father” and “son” are stuck together as soon as Mega Man is done replicating.

(Fire Man tries not to laugh when unfreezing them later, and Aki advises him not to burn them out, like he almost did with Breaker’s human arm).

They conclude Ice Man should not join their team, being too literal could cause problems, especially if he ever learns who Aki is and blows their cover.

A few days later, Ice Man puts out a fire and teases Mega Man, who has weapons but acts as a bystander, reinforcing the idea that Mega Man is being useless. This doesn’t help since Mega Man was about to put out the fire himself, and Ice Man’s literalness kicks in.

Back at home, the Robot Masters are confused as to how to help Aki go out from his literalness daze before Breaker comes back home. They enter many, MANY wacky attempts to bring him back to normal, including shock therapy (Thanks, Elec Man) and a system stimulant (beside freezing the cup, Chemistry Man gets nothing more from attempting that).

Mega Mini tries to help them out while working on reheating his inner systems before Aki turns him into a mini-ice cube.

The situation only (kinda) defuses when Breaker comes back (the Robot Masters are completely scared of what he’s gonna do). When he notices Aki has completely forgotten his role at his side, he tries to remind him, but Aki still acts literal, saying he feels useless since he couldn’t put out the fire earlier, meaning he can’t be Breaker’s “master weapon” or “best robot”.

Which, in turn, leads Breaker to attempt his last resort plan: he tells Aki that he’s not just a robot, he’s also his son, and that while he fails many times, he’s always been loyal to him and that he’s not just a bucket of bolts like the others, he’s family.

Since Aki doesn’t have as much of a reason to break out of the schematics, as he doesn’t view himself as a hero, Breaker’s words work but not completely. Aki is back to normal, but now he calls him “dad” all the time (though he still calls him “sir” when he’s Mega Man in public) and acts like he’s his actual son (still retaining the knowledge they’re not related by blood), suggesting to help with his plans more often and more energetically acting like a “Well done son!” kinda boy.

(Breaker is pleased that Aki listens so much more. And also kinda touched that Aki took his words at heart and is that naturally warm to him, but like heck he’s gonna admit it. The other Robot Masters make sure to make no comment and are simply glad their friend is back to normal and happier about himself.)

(Mega Mini on the other hand has no restraint teasing Breaker about it at every occasion he gets in the following weeks, which amuses Aki a bit and very much annoys Breaker, who is so conflicted that he feels Mega Mini isn’t wrong).

At some point, the Ice Man schematics stop influencing Aki’s attitude, but by then, everyone is used to him being more familiar with Breaker, so he still calls him “dad” without any embarrassment and is still very active. And Breaker doesn’t seem to mind anymore.

Robot Master Relationship: Fire Man

When Sergeant Night had Aki join the operation base but couldn’t keep an eye on him all the time, he asked Fire Man, who was the closest one around and the less volatile robot (relatively speaking), to keep an eye on him while he was working.

Fire Man, who’s only heard that Night lived with his son through scuttlebutt, wasn’t impressed with the kid, who was easily intimidated, and looked very much human. Aki tried to make small talk, at his own risks. He got into Fire Man’s personal space, unintentionally making the Robot Master mad.

It takes Mega Mini jumping out of Aki’s head and right on Fire Man’s eyes, for him to realize Aki is a fellow robot, not a human. Which makes the situation awkward now that the former construction worker realizes he was about to reduce into burnt remains one of his own.

From that point, Aki feels uneasy with Fire Man around, remembering he was almost attacked because he looked human, and he tried socializing with another robot. This doesn’t help his insecurity about not knowing whether he’s a robot, or a human kid with what he’s associated with, feeling like a freak.

On Fire Man’s side, he feels a bit guilty for lashing out at Aki that way, realizing he severely misjudged one of his own (who is incomprehensibly also his human boss’ son). He attempts to apologize during training later, though it doesn’t start off that well. He’s relieved Aki didn’t mention the incident to Breaker, but that only means the kid’s too scared, scared of him to attempt it.

Fire Man then makes an effort to apologize when he realizes Aki isn’t having it easy at all (Night as his dad can NEVER be easy). Mega Mini is wary of the apologies at first, making the “I see you” gesture with his tiny robot fingers as a warning, much to Fire Man’s confusion, and Aki’s amusement.

Afterwards, it’s revealed Fire Man can actually be very warm sometimes, such as when he tried to help out Suna’s Sunacopter before realizing what it was and burning it, much to Suna’s horror and Aki’s slight guilt.

He supports Aki’s choices when he sees the little buddy really is a nice guy, and often helps him using his flamethrower with his schematics. He also feels kinda touched that Aki uses his schematics the most as Mega Man, though he does feel uncertain about how Mega Man is suddenly so quick to anger while using his powers.

(On Mega Mini’s advice, he took Yoga classes, to which he invites Mega Man to join whenever his schematics are making Aki angry. They know he’s mad when he makes fire footsteps, something Night assumes Fire Man is responsible for before knowing the schematics affect Aki physically too).

He also doesn’t really enjoy Aki’s human friends, and prefers when Aki spends time with his other robot friends. But he gives him his freedom, slowly understanding he can’t force his opinion on someone with his fire whenever he wants, especially when it’s someone he cares about.

He’s basically Aki’s first robot friend aside from Mega Mini, and while things start off rocky, he’s very protective of the kid when he realizes he shouldn’t have judged him by appearances alone.
