Relief travels down Akihiko’s throat just like his drink does. Soothing, cold to offset the warm buzz in his nerves, velvety slick to the last swallow. Both settle squarely just below his ribs, pushing out a breath he didn’t know he was holding as he finally shuts down his TV.

It’s silly, really; weather rarely has an influence on his training regimen. Mother Nature is simply an opponent to overcome, a handicap he learned to strategize around and dress for if the need arises. Nothing more.

He blames the possibility of Minako shivering with sickness for that sudden hyper fixation. Knowing how little regard she sometimes has for her own fatigue, she’d probably insist on going to Tartarus with a cold, too. And just thinking about a fumble of that naginata at the wrong time…
