Three Baron's Renaissance Faire
Ahh, there’s nothing like seeing the confused looks on people’s faces when they see a random group of kids painted grey with candy-corn horns, am I right?
What: The Three Baron’s Renaissance Faire
Where: 3400 E. Tudor Rd. Tozier Dog Track
(We will be meeting specifically, at the human chess board. It’s huge, you can’t miss it.)
When: Saturday, June 8th, 1:30pm- whenever you wish to leave (the faire is open from 12pm-8pm)
How much?: Adults (13+)- $6
Children (12-)- $3
And the best part? They’re offering a coupon on their site for $1 off per person. If you want it, you must print it off and surrender it at the gate.
Who: You, whether you be in cosplay or not!
Can I cosplay, and to what level?: Let’s get something clear real quick-like; the faire-folk, some of whom I’ve known my whole life, embrace the strange. Feel like going casual? Go for it! Feel like going grey with the teeth and horns to top it off? Go for it! Don’t want to cosplay at all? Go for it!
The theme for this particular weekend is “Fantasy”, and the website’s description reads as follows:(Let your imagination run wild for this is the Fantasy weekend. Come as your favorite character from film to literature, from gaming to your own creation. Rise to this challenge and take it to the next level. Enter into the our Fair wide costume contest and live the fantasy.)
The following statement should also be noted: (Have your whole family dress as a group or gather friends upon your quest and win the top honors. Remember this is a family event, there are weapon restrictions so use common sense and any non-sanctioned spells or incantations will be subject to the Ministry of Magic regulations.)
It sounds like trolls, cherubs and even carapaces are good to go! (Okay, maybe not carapaces, especially if using a morphsuit or whatever those things are. It’s likely the same situation as Senshi-Con: please don’t have your face covered so that they may be able to easily identify you, should anything happen. Safety precautions and all that. If going as a carapace, I’d suggest humanizing them).
Also, keep in mind that a good chunk (not all, thank god) of the faire folk are kinda touchy. If you’re going grey, as always, SEAL YOUR MAKE-UP. Their clothes are expensive and hand-made, and are just like any other cosplay. They can blame the mud on their boots and the bottoms of their skirts on natural stuff. But if they get grey on their clothes, well… I just don’t want anyone to get into trouble.
cosplay tl;dr: feel free to cosplay, but exercise your good common sense, the rules of the fandom, and the rules of conventions.
PLEASE BE AWARE that there are no modern, flushing toilets at the Tozier Track- only a few sets of Port-A-Potties. Gross, I know. Keep that in mind when preparing for the day, as there will not be a place set up with a mirror and sink that you can wash off/touch up make-up with.
ALSO: Even if you are going grey, I HIGHLY SUGGEST putting on sunblock underneath it. The past two times I’ve been to the faire, it’s waffled back and forth between FIERY SUN OF HELL’S DEPTHS and rain. In case anyone needs it, I WILL be bringing additional sunblock that you may use. I suggest bringing an umbrella, too, should the weather predict rain for that weekend.
Okay, I think I’ve rambled on long enough. Sorry for my long-windedness, I just like to cover all the bases, so!
tl;dr The meet-up info is at the top, exercise reasonable weather precautions, common sense, fandom/con rules in regards to cosplay, and access to a nice, clean restroom is rather limited.
We look forward to seeing you all there!
