Friend Folio: Akvan
The Akvan's statblock is some of the PF game designers' best work when it comes to marrying roleplay to rollplay. With the ability to demoralize everyone within a 30 foot radius and the ability to turn slain genius into ghuls mid-battle, the akvan is sure to leave its opponents in a terrible mood. Oh, and spellcasters who gets hit with melee attacks get shaken -- though I suppose if you're a spellcaster in an akvan's instant death radius, you probably should be afraid.
The Akvan Div or Persian folklore was a foe of Rostam. Pathfinder's akvans don't have the transformation abilities as their mythical counterpart, but if you're looking for a good foe to pit against your legendary heroes, I don't think you'd be looking in the wrong place.
A young ifrit's dowry chest has been pawned off to buy the scroll and material components for a resurrection ritual. Of course, the ritual can't go forward if the ghul who used to be Nerya ibnat Rujih isn't put out of its misery... and preferably without alerting the akvan that turned her.
A great wyrm Umbral Dragon wants her limited edition angelleather-bound Tome of Horrors back, or she'll reduce the nation of Chengoku to ruins. The oni daimyo ruling Chengoku worked very hard to steal that tome, and won't part with it for anything less than the famed rune giant's Venar assistance in completing the capstone piece of his irezumi. Venar, a giant at the top of his profession, demands a steep price for his work: the armor of an akvan. The party has a week to sort this out, and it will be a very long week indeed.
The tyrannical Prince Tarpagay of Battakana is looking to replace his favorite sellswords with Sandshorn Skull, an akvan who is willing to spread terror for considerably less. Killing Sandshorn Skull would anger the Prince, of course. Humiliating Sandshorn in front of the Prince by exploiting his irrational contempt for genies, however?
