“no one will groom my tiny dog for under $80 she’s so small it’s not fair” okay like yeah, it only takes around 2-3 hours to do a groom on a WELL-BEHAVED dog, and if a person was making hourly, they would be paid maybe $14-45 dollars, depending on local minimum wage. But guess what: that’s what the groomer is making off your groom, anyway. Private salons pay their groomers 40-60% of every groom they do, and corporate salons pay 50% across the board.
Not to mention, it takes a lot of money to get to the point of doing a decent-looking groom done that fast. It takes thousands of dollars of schooling and hundreds of hours of practice to get good. It takes hundreds to thousands of dollars to purchase and maintain tools (because there’s not a salon that will purchase and maintain your tools for you).
So yes, most salons charge $80 for a small poodle cut. Corporate salons are cheaper, and home groomers even cheaper than rhat, though you get what you pay for. Just keep in mind you’re not just paying for a haircut—you’re paying for skilled labor on a luxury pet.
