#ala2012 may have been one of my least favorite con experiences, but it was also the first point where cosplay stopped being just a hobby. i realized i loved sewing even with how little i knew and how much of a struggle that made constructing costumes. #princesskraehe was the first time i’d made something fully from scratch and it was NOT easy by any stretch. i got a hall cosplay ribbon for my costume and i felt so good in this costume even with the imperfections. while i haven’t watched #princesstutu in years, this costume holds a special place in my heart which is why it’s still hanging in my closet even though i’ll probably never revisit this character.

Throwback to the post-con fun right after Anime Los Angeles 2012 (ALA '12)!

My friend and I joined a bunch of other cosplayers for a gathering at Boomers in El Cajon, CA. It was the perfect spot to hang out, decompress, and just run around playing games with friends.

Here we are posing with our wristbands! I totally forgot what exactly those wristbands were for (maybe an all-day pass?), but I vividly remember doing all the essentials: mini-golf, go-karts, and a bunch of other silly, competitive stuff.

Sometimes, the best part of the con experience is the spontaneous fun you have with your friends outside the convention center!

Throwing it back to Anime Los Angeles 2012 (ALA '12)!

Here I am just having fun and being ridiculous with my friend who was cosplaying as Wesker. I was in an original cosplay dressed as a fancy European gentleman, which was a fun way to still blend in with the general con crowd.

Naturally, we had to pose dramatically by pointing our weapons at each other. Don't worry, they were just plastic props and were peace-bonded by the con staff, so it was all safe fun! Sometimes, it's those moments of just purely goofing off with friends that make the entire convention worth it.

wrapping up #fanime2011 and segueing right into #ala2012 because I didn’t do a whole lot of #durarara cosplay and didn’t really feel super invested in the series. i actually didn’t even want to cosplay mikado but unfortunately i didn’t know how to say no or something. i did enjoy cosplaying Namie though. and even if these costumes aren’t my faves or anything it’s still a part of my cosplay history—the jacket for mikado was one of the first few things i made myself! i started making my own costumes in between these two cons, so the journey from buying my costumes to making them also started between here! this ALA was a continuation of Fanime in some ways and so emotionally i’m not fond of it but costume-wise it was a pretty great point for me because i debuted two costumes i made completely from scratch (which i’ll be posting next). #animelosangeles #fanime
