Legislature Letting The Ship Sink Without Even Trying To Bail Water - Stranger…

Alabama’s ship is sinking, and the Legislature does nothing, not even stooping over to bail a little water.  Governor Bentley goes on the road in a fruitless quest to gain support for tax increases and threatens vetoes that will be overridden.  The Legislature  treats him like a fussy toddler in need of a bottle and a nap.

I worry that so many decades of bad governance have taught Alabama voters to expect nothing better.

It seems as if nothing an Alabama legislator does as a legislator threatens his or her chances of reelection.

It is time for Alabama voters to wake up and pay attention to what the Legislature does, and what it fails to do.  It is time for the electorate to demand more.  We the people of Alabama need to send a message to Montgomery that posturing over gay marriage, family values, and gun rights is not enough. We need a government that governs.

I don’t care if you are a Republican, Democrat, Communist, or Fascist. No matter what your views are of Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, here at home you, the Alabama voter, need to demand competence in our government.
