bc people are trash (i’ve never read it but judging from your disdain i’m not gonna)
I understand why someone would put it on a recs list if they're recommending comics for people who have only seen the movies, because it ties closer to Cap 2 than say, Itsy Bitsy Spider, but if someone is looking to read about Natasha, I can't think of a worse comic to recommend than one where she's a kidnapped, brainwashed puppet for Bucky's angst. Hell, I wouldn't even recommend it to people looking to read about Bucky, since his actions do not reflect well on him as a character, and it's laughable how unaware Brubaker seems to be of that fact. But hey, why write character development when you can write manpain?
Given that Widow Hunt seems to have had very little impact on the wider Marvel Universe (well... none at all, actually), I don't think anyone needs to read it. All you need to know is that Natasha and Bucky aren't together anymore. I'm not sure how Marvel plans to address the arc given that Bucky will appear in Natasha's book. They could address the whole "Bucky, you made decisions about my memories without my consent and that was actually pretty shitty of you" aspect, or they could handwave-retcon the whole thing to say that Bucky and Natasha simply broke up at one point, idk. I'm not sure which I'd prefer. If they address Widow Hunt head on, I want them to do it right. I'm much more confident about Edmondson addressing it in Natasha's book than having it be addressed in say, Secret Avengers. On the other hand, if Marvel wants to handwave Widow Hunt away as a bad arc by a writer who no longer works for Marvel in a comic that was cancelled over a year ago due to low sales, I can't say I'd be overly disappointed.
