It seems to me that these two characters are united by one thing, both of which are very important for the city of Elmore. Remember the episodes of "The Pizza" and "The Faith". They have a pretty similar plot: a minor character throws all the work / disappointed in everything, and Elmore is destroyed / becomes gray. The main characters notice this and go to these characters to apologize to them. And it’s getting good. Larry holds the entire economy of the city, and Alan brings good to Elmore.
