Steve Kort Celebrates 25 Years with Atronic Alarms
This month Steve Kort celebrates his 25th year as Technical Support and Programming at Atronic Alarms and we asked him a few questions about his milestone.
Atronic: What is your primary function at the company? Steve: I am currently Tech Support and Programming. This includes answering all technical questions on systems for our customers and installers and making programming changes from the office. I also occasionally go out and work on older versions of access control systems. I am a backup for service, review most residential contracts for accuracy and assist the sales staff with system design.
Atronic: What do you like most about your job? Steve: Discovering and implementing new technology. It is an ongoing occurrence.
Atronic: What do you find the most challenging? Steve: It is a double edged sword. I love the progressiveness of alarm technology but keeping up with it at times can be challenging. There is always something new that needs to be properly implemented and field tested.
Atronic: What trends do you see in the alarm industry that have made an impact on false alarm reduction over the last 25 years? Steve: More devices come standard with built in verification before they trip. Most motions, glass breaks and door/window contacts are much more reliable now then when I started 25 years ago. The panels are built better and they also have their own safety features built into them, like 30 second smoke verification so small amounts of dust blowing through one doesn’t cause a false.
Atronic: Twenty five years is a long time to be at one job. What made you stay there so long? Steve: The ownership of the company and the fact I enjoy what I do. When you can trust the person that owns the company and know it’s going to be there in 5, 10, 25, 50 years plus, you feel safe investing into your job for the long term. It also makes it much easier telling customers that their issues will be resolved quickly when you have that kind of support and backing from the top.
