I've been doing a lot of sketching at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London recently and nothing drives home the point of "sex sells" like looking at classical sculpture. The amount of training and raw material it took to train up a master marble sculptor was enormously expensive, so the end product had to be something that people were willing to pay for.
