RICHARD ASHCROFT: ALBERT HALL, MANCHESTER

Richard Ashcroft is a dream to photograph, such an iconic Northerner, born and bred in Wigan, just a few miles from me. There was an abundance of photographers, 13 on the list, so it was a bit crammed and as usual a very tall stage, which I have said before it is difficult unless your really tall. So I have learnt it is best to use 70-200mm to get a better reach. I’m reasonably happy with the shots, just a bit disappointed he didn’t wear a sparkly jacket or suit.

RICHARD ASHCROFT: ALBERT HALL, MANCHESTER

May 14th - Its Wigan born Richard Ashcroft at the Albert Hall tonight. What a great weekend I am having, I try not to think of all the editing I have to do following the gigs. Tonight was fabulous lighting, lovely stage set and was pleasantly surprised to find that Richard was quite the star, and didn’t just stand still with his guitar and do nothing. We have movement and expressions galore. The music was brilliant too, just as I was leaving he was singing his famous song ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’. I found myself wanting to stay. I went to see the incredible Super Furry Animals on Thursday night at the Albert Hall in Manchester. They never disappoint as a live band and it was my fist time at the Albert Hall which is a breathtaking venue. Here's a shot of Gruff with his famous power rangers helmet and Guto on bass (who we had the pleasure of meeting when The Watchmakers played with his other band Gulp at Night & Day cafe in November last year).
