How I make my albums for my singer dr 𓂃.˖⋆
━━━━━━━ ⊹ ━━━━━━━
This guide is for anyone who wants a more organized way to create albums. It took me a long time to figure out a system that works for me, so I wanted to share it in case it helps someone else.
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ Before anything else, for me, it's super important to have my storyline scripted or clear so I know what's happening in my life at that moment.
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ I think more in terms of eras than albums, first, for example, what happened between 2020 and 2022, what was happening in my life at that moment (I know that's kind of obvious, but whatever)
e.g.: when I fell in love, when I ended a relationship and lost myself, when I started to come back to myself
━━━━━━━ ⊹ ━━━━━━━
1. phrase that defines the era
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ Something that helps me a lot is writing a sentence that describes the era
e.g. "There is still sadness, but I'm trying to make a new beginning."
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ If I hear a song that fits this description, It goes straight to the draft.
━━━━━━━ ⊹ ━━━━━━━
2. draft
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ I listen to songs by some artists I like (or I also get inspiration from other shifters) paying close attention to the lyrics
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ I put all the songs that make me feel like they belong in and put them in a draft playlist.
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ Don't think about the tracklist, genres, or anything else that might bother you; this is just a brainstorming session. (It doesn't matter if there are 45 songs either)
━━━━━━━ ⊹ ━━━━━━━
3. classification
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ Now comes the important part. In a notebook or the notes app, I make 5 classifications:
A. ESSENTIAL: Those that are very important, that perfectly describe that phrase or some situation that happened in that era
B. GOOD: Those that are very good but not key to the era.
C. DELUXE: Songs that don’t feel essential for this era but could work for a deluxe version or a future project.
D. DISCARDED: They're no good for this era (but keep them somewhere just in case).
E. LIMBO: I don't know where they're going yet (I know it looks strange but I had to create this classification for a reason).
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ Something that helps me is listening to all the songs and paying attention to the lyrics and telling myself why each song should go in each category.
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ This is just to give you an idea; obviously, you can experiment with this and see what works best.
━━━━━━━ ⊹ ━━━━━━━
4. first work with those in classification A
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ Listen to all the songs in that category and if you feel it's missing something, just add some from category B.
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ You can add the remaining ones in deluxe or discard them.
━━━━━━━ ⊹ ━━━━━━━
5. order them
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ Listen to how they sound together.
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ Notice which letters connect with others.
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ Spotify and Apple Music have a transition function, see which songs sound good when transitioned together.
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ (advice a girl gave me on TikTok) Focus on the titles, if the title song is really long, you'd put a similar lengh next to it, or put the short ones next to the short ones and make it look like a wave, its very satisfying to see.
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ Depending on what you want to express, you can listen to which songs have a more cheerful vibe and others that are sadder. You can make the album start with this happy vibe and slowly get sadder, or vice versa.
━━━━━━━ ⊹ ━━━━━━━
6. check if anything is missing
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ Leave the album there, and come back in a day or two to clear your head, if you feel something is missing, add it, Just two or three songs, don't change the whole album
━━━━━━━ ⊹ ━━━━━━━
7. the moment when everything takes shape
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ It depends on the album I made; I go to Pinterest and start looking for album aesthetics and put them on a board (if you already had inspiration from another album it's easier).
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ I choose the album name !!
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ I make the album cover and back cover (I use hypic and canva to make them)
𝜗𝜚˚⋆ Then obviously there are other things like choosing the single and stuff like that, but that's up to each person.
that's it! I hope this is clear for all those people who have doubts, this might seem like a detailed process, but I’m a perfectionist and clutter overwhelms me, so this system has made everything much easier.
