Album of the Day: Together/Apart, by Grieves. Yet another album from a Rhymesayers artist, but hey they’re some dope mofo’s up there. Honestly I’ve got nothing bad to say about this guy, and nothing bad to say about this particular album. A friend once described this album as “the perfect way to put emotions into sounds”. Maybe it’s his voice, or maybe it’s the way he approaches the mic, but it’s hard not to agree with that. Every song feels heart-felt and purposeful, with practically all of them dealing with depression in some way, and Brother Ali makes an appearance on the album. Who the hell doesn’t love the brother? Now, for the negatives, practically every song deals with depression and/or relationships; they’re all masterfully done but a little variety is what makes a gold album platinum. Another thing, which rides right alongside that last one, is that the songs start to blend together after a while.
