How About No?

Alright y'all it's been a while since I posted an idea but I've been deep in the HP trenches and I needed this out.

But before I do, obligatory: FUCK JKR. I do not agree with her stupid ass views and never will.

Now onwards to the idea

First and foremost this is a NottPott idea because I love them and they are one of my favorite rare pairs!

This centers around fourth year but in actuality started in third year. It started with a comment. One small comment when all Harry had been surrounded by was the seeping cold of the dementors, the constant buzz of gossip of his "imminent" demise (thanks Trelawney), and the mad arguing of Hermione and Ron. That one comment somehow snapped him out of all of it for a brief moment.

And funny enough, it was about his "imminent" death.

"You would think people would have more sense than to believe drivel and yet here we are. The Boy-Who-Lived is apparently going to be the Boy-Who-Died-Because-His-Lump-Of-Tea-Leaves-Looked-Vaguely-Canine-Shaped."

It made Harry laugh for what felt like the first time in a long time.

When he turned to see who had made him laugh, he was more than a little shocked to see a Slytherin. Not just any Slytherin, it was Theodore Nott. Now it would probably shock anyone if Harry admitted to knowing who the Slytherin was but Harry was observant. One didn't live with the Dursleys and did not learn how to be observant. It was a survival skill. One of many.

And there was that saying of like calls to like. They were both quiet, though there were not many who would admittedly describe Harry as so, but he was. That was another skill he learned from his relatives. But a bigger skill he learned was masking. He was excellent at putting on a mask. Though sometimes it felt like the mask wore him. Especially once he became aware he was a wizard and not just any run-of-the-mill wizard, noooooo, he was a bloody famous one.

The point was, he knew when someone was also wearing a mask, and Nott wore his well.

They had only met eyes once. It was in their first year and it had been during potions class. Neville had melted another cauldron whilst Seamus exploded another. The resulting boom and shouts along with Snape's absolutely furious roar had snapped Harry's mask. Or more accurately, it had made him flinch so violently that he lost his grasp on it. He doesn't know exactly what made him look to his left and saw Nott also flinch just as violently. They made eye contact and it was like they just knew what the other had gone through and what they continued to go through. Neither said anything but they understood and since then it was like they made a conscious effort to not look at one another.

Until that moment. Harry found himself staring into those achingly familiar steely blue-grey eyes. In response to Harry's surprised laughter that was slowly growing softer, Theo gave a small smile. It had Harry foolishly hoping to see it more.

"Thanks, Nott." Harry said after his giggling had finally subsided. "I needed a laugh."

"Happy to serve." Nott drawled. Before Harry could come up with something witty to respond with, Harry heard the familiar voice of Hermoine calling for him at the same time that he heard an unfamiliar voice call out, "Theo."

And that had been that.

The rest of third year has passed in a blur. A big, traumatic blur, and yet it somehow managed to rank low on Harry's Traumatic Experiences List.

Their next encounter came a little after the start of fourth year. Harry didn't know why he did it but he had been taking a walk by himself and had seen Nott sitting in an alcove with a book in hand and couldn't resist approaching the boy.

"I'm still alive." He had meant for it to be a joke but he wasn't quite sure his tone carried it out because a part of him had said it like a report. Like he needed to say it out loud to believe he had actually made it out of another disaster.

He hadn't expected much in way of a response, maybe a chuckle, nod, or hum, but Harry found himself quickly being given the Slytherin's full attention. The boy had even shut his book and placed it by his side. He never did that! Harry had seen him at the opening feast with his nose in a book while managing to eat and converse with Zabini. So to have his undivided had Harry feeling weirdly flustered.

"Good." Nott had finally said. "Let's keep it that way."

Theo was not a person who fell into any kind of relationship. Even friendship was calculated for him, and not in the typical Pureblooded way that many Slytherins were, no he was calculated in the way he observed and decided if a friendship or relationship was worth the risk and his father's ire. Edmund Holden Theodore Nott II was not a patient man. Nor was he a kind man. You would think he would at least treat his child well but you would be very wrong.

It was why Theo himself tried his best to find a middle ground of blending into the background yet standing out. At school, he was second in his year yet none of his yearmates or even housemates could tell you much about the young heir which was how Theo liked it. His placement pleased his father enough to not ask about anything else in school. Like his nonexistent popularity or recognition. Which was why Theo had been so shocked to find recognition in those impossibly green eyes his first year.

It had scared and angered him as much as it thrilled him. Harry Potter may have done his best to not look Theo's way, but Theo did his best to look at Potter as much as he could get away with. The more he looked, the more he noticed, and the more he noticed the more intrigued he became. He found himself wondering about the Gryffindor a lot after that. What did he think about being a Gryffindor? Did he ever think or want to be in another house? Did anyone in his house notice how small he was? How skinny? What was his owl's name and why?

He also found himself wanting to talk to the boy more and more and yet he couldn't bring himself to. If his fellow Slytherins saw him talk to the bloody Boy-Who-Lived in an amicable way he would be shunned, he just knew it. He also knew that the news would get to his father and the mab would not be happy and would take it out on Theo like he always did.

So he held back.

He almost cracked in second year when the whole Chamber of Secrets thing happened along with the ridiculous Heir of Slytherin thing going around about Potter. It was, in simple terms, a load of tosh. Again his mind had a million questions it wanted to ask Potter but he reigned himself in.

He was not so lucky third year. It seemed as though his curiosity about the other boy had hit its peak. He made his move when he knew the other boy was taking one of his "cool down" walks. Theo made sure he looked impeccable as always before he approached Potter who looked one bad comment away from exploding. In anger or tears, he didn't know. He made sure no one of importance or anyone at all would see them speaking. Though he knew of Granger's need to know where Potter was and of Blaise's habit of trying to make Theo socialize for a bit. (For his own good apparently.) It all went as planned and he had even made Harry laugh! This, obviously, meant they were close to being on a first-name basis and so Theo referred to Potter as Harry in the privacy of his mind from then on.

Theo had never been interested in Quidditch when growing up but once he saw Harry play, he became interested. He read the rule books, he read Quidditch Through The Ages, and he even looked up team statistics in case he and Harry ever had a conversation about Quidditch. Too much? Perhaps but that's just how Theo was. So when his father told him they were attending the Quidditch World Cup final he found himself excited. Though he would never show it in front of his father.

He had even seen Harry! But they hadn't gotten an opportunity to talk before the game started. Then the attack happened and Theo understood why his father wanted to attend. He knew he had to make himself scarce, otherwise his father would be less than pleased with him. As he ran he noticed Harry and almost instinctively followed but stopped himself and went the opposite way. He felt terrible doing so but he was a Slytherin at heart and prided himself on his self-preservation. He resolved to check on Harry as soon as the school year started.

He had even planned on approaching him once more and striking up a conversation, so imagine his surprise when Harry was the one to approach him. The poor boy tried to make a joke and sure, Theo could have pretended it was, but the desperate way Harry had said "I'm still alive", had him choking down his own joke.

This had been the moment he had been waiting for; a way for him and Harry to get closer, and Theo latched onto it like the greedy thing his father accused him of being.

From then on the two would meet to hang out or simply bask in each other's presence. It was everything Theo wanted and even everything he hadn't known he wanted. He learned the answers to all his questions he's had over the years and then some. He learned that Harry was delightfully a little pessimistic like him and had a delicious wit about him. He could also be bloody clever when he wanted to be. Theo also became intimately familiar with what Harry coined as "Potter Luck." His friend spoke if it constantly and bemoaned it. Theo never really gave it much thought, he thought his friend was exaggerating, that was until Harry's name was pulled from the Goblet of Fire.

Little drabble for y'all but essentially the idea is that Theo and Harry relate to one another and are fascinated by each other. Maybe a wee bit obsessed with each other too. Fourth year they get close and the start of the tournament brings them even closer as Theo and Harry try to find a way to get Harry out of the competition.

Hermione is trying too of course but Harry hadn't told her nor Ron about Theo so she has no idea Harry is also getting help from the Slytherin.

It's after the weighing of the wands and the awful article from Rita that Harry snaps and just sobs and yells and screams with Theo as the only witness. And Theo? Theo just lets him until he calms down enough for the Slytherin to bring him into a kind of awkward hug. Theo was already pissed about the whole thing to begin with, this just further drove him to anger. First Harry's name got selected, then all of Hogwarts turned on him which of course made the foreigners turn on him, his best friend (which should definitely be Theo himself instead) didn't believe in him, and his other best friend was running between the two, and the cherry on top of it all was the article.

Theo was more than pissed at this point, especially at the adults. None of them were even trying to help Harry get out of this! How dare they!? So Theo resolved to do it on his own if they weren't going to be getting any help from the so-called "respected" adults. His idea? Going to the goblins. Goblins loved contracts but they loved finding and fixing loopholes even more. So Theo and Harry planned to make their way to Gringotts during the upcoming Hogsmead weekend.

Somehow they managed and were immediately seen by Theo's account manager, who after hearing what they were there for brought them to the bank manager. From there another explanation told, Harry was made to take an inheritance test. Yes this has the inheritance trope and the blocks and the lordships but my twist on them!

Like I hate how Harry is glamoured to look like James and when it's broken he's pale as snow. Nah, in my version he is glamoured but when it breaks he still keeps his dark skin, it might even darken because he will be healed which means he (and his skin) is finally healthy. Sirius did blood adopt him which helped his hair a bit, it mainly just defined his curls but instead of the outright birds nest, it looks a little more artistically chaotic. He also gets his cheekbones but that's it since it wasn't a full-blood adoption. (I will go more into that in later posts maybe) Harry also is a metamorphmagus! Not a full one like Tonks, but still!

All this to mean Albus Dumbledore is one of the bad guys here but not in the malicious sense like he planned James and Lily's deaths but he does control a lot of what goes on in Harry's life because he believes it must be done for the greater good.

Then, after Harry is healed, they find out a way to get Harry out of the Triwizard Tournament. Another trope! Harry isn't actually Harry's real name. Harry is actually Hari Haedus Hyacinth Jaiman Potter-Black. (I love the long name trope)

Hari (Hindi) meaning (picked by James) - the one who takes away suffering because that's how James saw him when he was born. But also because it can also mean green and he inherited Lily's eyes.

Haedus meaning - a main sequence star and located in the constellation Auriga. Picked by Sirius in honor of his family tradition after James bullied him into giving Hari a name since he was going to be his third parent.

Hyacinth meaning - the flower but also after the myth of Hyacinthus. Lily chose this name to keep the tradition of her family. Though the tradition was usually only used for the women in the family, she thought that was stupid and passed it to her son.

Jaiman meaning - A man who is a victor/victorious. This is actually James's name! It is tradition to give your sons your name as a middle in pureblood Wizarding families. Jaiman ended up going by James due to people anglicanizing it. (Sirius called it his white name)

Potter-Black - no explanation needed but!!! Potter wasn't always Potter but it also got anglicanized when the family moved from India to Britain. It was originally Patla!

I went on a tangent there sorry! But anywho, that's their loophole! Hari was entered as Harry James Potter which isn't his name therefore he doesn't have to compete. But he also doesn't want to go back to Hogwarts after everything he has learned. So Theo suggested they don't go back. (He had been planning to run away at some point from his father, now he had a prime opportunity! And he was going to take it! Plus traveling with Hari was a big bonus.) Hari was a little reluctant but Theo just had to remind Hari of everything that happened at Hogwarts and what was allowed to happen and Hari agrees to leave.

But he doesn't want to leave without explaining why. The bank manager having witnessed all of this and having had Griphook sentenced to life in the mines (for his mishandling of the Potter accounts) wanted to pay back young Hari for the offense told the two about calling on Mother Magic for help/judgment. He even taught them both the wording of the ritual.

Hari thinks it's perfect.

So he and Theo plan their trip over the next week as they compromised to go back to Hogwarts to better plan instead of running into things headfirst. (Theo had wanted to leave immediately but he knew they needed to be prepared.) So the two packed and corresponded with Zognuk III the bank manager of Britain Gringotts and apparently one of the princes of the Goblin Nation about the ritual they would perform as well as using him as a means to communicate safely with Sirius who had been staying in Rio to recuperate. He had, on the begging of Hari, gone to one of the Brazilian branches of Gringotts and had gotten himself cleansed and healed as well.

He was planning on meeting up with Hari and Theo as the two planned a whole trip to India where Hari's family had originally been from. It was Sirius's idea as he remembered that the Potters had an estate there for holidays that Euphemia and Fleamont used to take James and Sirius to. Remus wasn't too thrilled to be dragged in for a cleansing too but he was glad he did. But he was also not too thrilled with Hari and Theo traveling by themselves. There wasn't much he could do about it though but he took every opportunity to let them know.

Hari ends up bonding with Dobby who left with them when the time came.

They left a little before the first task was set to start. Hari left all his friends notes to explain everything even though he was certain they would hear because of the ritual but he wanted to be thorough. Also to warn them to go to Gringotts and get checked and cleansed if it was needed.

The ritual was supposed to only be announced to Magical Britain as that was what Hari had intended. Little did he know that it affected every Magical Community in the world besides Theo and Hari. The ritual was roughly translated to Mother's Blessing where an individual would call upon Mother Magic to pass judgment on them and their wish for justice. Hari was judged and deemed more than worthy. The ritual would make everyone freeze and listen to the truth of the individual. It would compel Hari to tell the full truth but he was okay with that since he would be long gone by the time it finished. Mainly because he begged Mother Magic to let the message be received once he and Theo were already gone and away enough from Hogwarts to not be caught.

Magical Britain is in for an eye-opening once Hari's message is played and heard for everyone.

Theo plans to woo Hari as they travel as he recognized immediately that he liked Hari. It takes Hari a bit longer to realize he likes Theo.

Just a cute, salty fic that I am totally gonna wrote and totally open to getting asks for!

Preface this by saying there will be slight bashing for some characters but they get better except for Dumbledore hehe and some others.

Dumbledore's Office - Nov. 17 - word count: 488 - @wolfstarmicrofic

Remus Lupin stormed through the corridors of Hogwarts. 

The news of Sirius’s arrest burned in his mind like a fever. 

By the time he reached the gargoyle guarding of Dumbledore’s office, his hands were trembling from fury.

“Let me in. I have urgent business to attend to,” Remus spat at the statue, eyes wild.

The gargoyle sighed. “Not even a ‘hello’ from you, Remus? Well, I suppose I’ll let you in. Consider it a favor from a friend.”

“Thank you.”

He stalked up the stairs towards the large oaken double doors, pushing them open. He stepped inside, eyes blazing as he saw the man he was looking for. 

The man of the hour. Albus FUCKING Dumbledore.

The old man looked up from his desk, his expression unshaken.

“Remus,” Dumbledore said slowly, “I wasn’t expecting-”

“Why?” The werewolf’s voice was raw. “Why did you let them take him?”

Dumbledore’s gaze hardened. “Sirius is guilty of causing the deaths of James and Lily Potter, as well as Peter Pettigrew. The evidence-”

“Is false!” Remus shouted. “Peter was the spy. We also have witness accounts of a rat running away after Sirius was arrested. You fucking scumbag-” he turned around a kicked a table, knocking it over and breaking its contents on the floor. “You knew that they had switched. You knew about Peter’s animagus status. I read the letters, Albus.”

“Enough.” The old man’s voice was sharp as steel. “Sirius Black is guilty in the eyes of the Ministry-”

“To hell with the Ministry!” the dirty blonde’s fists slammed onto the headmaster’s desk. “You are the Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot. Fix it.”

Dumbledore’s face grew dark for a split second before it smoothed back into cool detachment. “Mind your tone, Lupin. This is not as simple as you make it out to be.”

“Simple? Do you think this is simple for me? Watching the man I love, the man I share my life with, condemned without a trial? You think that’s simple?”

Dumbledore’s expression turned stony. “You tread dangerous ground, Remus.”

“And so do you,” Remus spat. “Because if you don’t act, I will. And I’ll start by making sure people learn about your history with Grindelwald. About the choices you made, the loyalties you-”

“Enough,” Dumbledore snapped, his composure cracking. Silence fell between them, heavy and suffocating. 

Remus was praying to every god he knew of to let the old coot agree with him, until- 

The headmaster leaned back with a sigh. “You leave me no choice.”

“So, you’ll do it?” his voice was barely a whisper now, desperation replacing the rage.

Dumbledore nodded. “I will see to it that Sirius receives a trial.”

The relief that coursed through Remus was overwhelming. He turned towards the door, walking away from the desk.

“Remus,” Dumbledore called softly as he reached the door.

The man paused but did not turn.

“You love him,” the white-haired man stated.

“More than anything.”

Originally put this in a message to someone but I'm still salty so I'm posting it here too.

I just keep thinking about how Dumbledore is presented as this great advocate for equality and justice in the Wizarding World but what does he actually do? For example, it's said he "opposed" the killing of the last giants in Britain (implying there was a state sanctioned genocide btw) but like...how did he oppose it? Dumbledore does not care about respecting the Ministry or following the law when it doesn't suit him ad he is also tremendously powerful and essentially has his own private army. (Not to mention that until Voldemort's second reign it seems he was generally respected and influential in the Ministry and held a lot of sway there). So if he really wanted to stop it, he could've done a lot but it sort of seems as though he was more like 'oh no...don't do that...oh well...'

And there are so many other instances like this. He says Sirius was wrong to mistreat Kreacher but did he even once try to intervene? Does he ever make a rule saying that using slurs like "Mudblood" is against the rules? He has full control of the Hogwarts curriculum until 5th year but does he make Muggle Studies mandatory to expose Purebloods to information that could prevent their radicalization into anti-Muggle organizations? Does he try to get legislation passed to prevent the wanton use of spells on Muggles to modify or wipe their memories despite the risks of such magic? No! He does none of these things.

He seems pretty happy to let the status quo be and focuses mainly on Tom Riddle - who he has been bizarrely fixated on in a kind of disturbing way since the first time they met - while ignoring the larger, systemic problems in wizarding society and doing little to aid the groups he claims to represent.

A writer is a writer. They are no less of a writer if they write fanfiction instead of "real" books. I have never read such an amazing quote while reading. And I thought it deserved recognition.

Snape was an abusive, bully of a teacher!!!

Yeah, and several other Hogwarts teachers weren't much bloody better so hold them accountable too!!

McGonagall locked Neville out of the Gryffindor common room in 3rd year when there was an assumed murderer on the loose. She also took so many points from Harry, Ron, etc in first year that the entirety of Gryffindor house ostracised three eleven year olds and she just...didn't notice? She told Harry that she'd rethink punishing him for the flying lesson debacle if he didnt play a sport he barely knew well. Didnt take harry, ron, and hermione seriously about the philosopher's stone. She didnt even LET harry begin to tell her about umbridge and he was being actively tortured by her. Allowed hermione to use a fucking time-turner when they’re highly regulated by the Ministry which led to hermione rightfully crashing out several times, hard.

Dumbledore groomed harry and many other literal children to fight in the war he pretty well started when he ostracised tom riddle right off the bat and remained sus about him. He was an avid and happy supporter of grindlewald and only turned on him because dumbles accidently killed his own sister and guilt got the better of him. He threatened Snape to keep silent about Severus' near murder at Remus' wolfy paws, which was orchestrated by Sirius. He kept Snape beholden to him for over a decade. He put harry with abusive relatives and kept sending him back and expected harry at the ripe age of 18 to happily and willingly sacrifice himself. Let hermione use a fucking TIME TURNER!!!!!!

Hagrid put ron, hermione, harry AND THE WHOLE SCHOOL in danger by having a dragon. Ron got bit by the poisonous dragon and Hagrid yelled at ron for upsetting the dragon, and didnt at all comfort Ron. He kept an acromantula baby in the castle, and even let the colony grow to insane numbers because aragog was his buddy. Acromantulas are considered wildly dangerous and they could have swarmed the school and eaten the kids. He dangerously and recklessly bred the blast ended skrewts and had the kids working with them. Its unknown if he bred them legally or not, but its likely the whole thing was illegal.

Lupin had thirteen year old children facing their fears and didnt give them a chance to back out and not, you know, face their fears except Harry who he interrupted when it was his turn to face the Boggart because he was buds with James. He forgot his wolfsbane potion, putting three children and snape in danger of being killed or turned. He very cruelly told harry he would be wasting his parents sacrifices by wandering the castle at night with the marauders map like tf lupin stfu you cunt 😒

Quirrell is self-explanatory, but here ill once more put blame on Dumbles' shoulders because shouldn't a place as "safe" as hogwarts have FUCKING WARDS? AND HOW DID HE NOT KNOW VOLDIE WAS IN THE CASTLE? EH? OR MCGONAGALL AS DEPUTY HEADMISTRESS?

Lockhart put his students in danger daily with his utter brainlessness and utter stupidity. Tried to obliviate Ron and leave he, harry, and ginny for dead.

Fake Moody is once again self explanatory and also HOW DID THE GREAT AND WONDERFUL DUMBLEDORE NOT KNOW IT WASNT REALLY HIS BEST BUD ALASTOR MOODY THE WHOLE DAMNED TIME????????????

Trelawney also was detrimental to the students by predicting their deaths and being constantly drunk on sherry like ffr dumbledore don't hire an alcoholic fucking hell

There's a lot more i could mention, but just know that I personally think most, if not all, of the Hogwarts teachers are inept and negligent and they should all be fucking sanctioned
