Knock knock i am here for the wip ask game!! ALCH7201 please hehe
(Tag game) So, this is actually the second ask (first one here) for ALCH7201, which means I get to talk about something else about the fic than the general premise, heheh.
Given that ALCH7201 depicts Ed in 1924 going back ten years to 1914 (early-on in the manga slash Brotherhood, sometime in the spring), we now have a very real & canonical threat of the Homunculi present to deal with. Their whole shit has been fascinating to unravel and work with another Ed, because—right, we’re working with a post-PD Ed, he should be a very viable sacrifice, but he can’t open his own Gate.
That’s kinda sorta fuckin’ required to be a sacrifice, given that Roy saw his own, right? Like he could open a Gate, but not his own, and he can’t build that big ol’ door for Father to take hold of Truth. So he’s in this dire situation if the Homuculi ever find out his position and the truth of his reality. It suddenly goes from, ‘great, he can do human transmutation; a new sacrifice!’ to ‘WDYM he doesn’t have a Gate and can’t do alchemy naturally? [frog blink]’
And then they’d try to kill him, of course. Obviously having someone a decade into the future is a bit of a detriment to the ‘genocide everyone’ plan.
Here’s a snippet (fresh from my brain):
Truth’s domain is endless—blindingly bright, white. It’s got curves if your eyes can stand looking outward towards infinity long enough, but the floor beneath you is flat. Behind him, there’s a Gate embroidered with flame and a tree, all interwoven upon each other like braided bread—or snakes.
“You figured out something clever this time, I must admit, Edward Elric! Using what I told you before, are you?”
“Me and my tricks,” Ed says easily. He does think about what it told him long ago—winning its game, beating it with its own system—by just knowing people. Connecting with them. Living because of them. “You’re the one who told me that I ‘won it all.’ I don’t play take-backsies,” Ed says, with a small laugh accompanying his words under his breath.
