The first thing Alec noticed when he first woke up was thathe was alone. He hadnât even opened his eyes, but when he moved closer into thespace where Magnus was, instead of nuzzling into his boyfriends shoulder, hewas met with a face full of pillow.
The second thing Alec noticed once he had opened his eyesand sat up, was the sound of music and Magnus humming along to it coming fromthe kitchen. A smile spread across his lips as he listened to Magnus movearound the kitchen, hearing the kettle come to boil and cupboards opening andshutting.
Alec slipped out of bed, pulling one of Magnusâ jumpers on,the material slightly loose around his shoulders and arms, but still a comfyfit on him. He tugged the sleeves down to cover his hands as he padded into thekitchen, Magnusâ small humming getting louder as he got closer.
The third thing that Alec noticed that morning was Magnusdancing in the kitchen, wearing Alecâs sweatpants low on his hips. The cuffs ofthe pants were rolled up so that Magnusâ ankles were showing. Magnus was stoodin front of the stove, cooking something that Alec couldnât see, and his headwas bopping and hips were swaying to the music that was playing from the radioon the side.
He shuffled over to Magnus and circled his arms around hiswaist, bringing his hands to rest against Magnusâ stomach. He felt Magnus relaxinto his touch as he nuzzled his head into his neck, letting his lips brush againstthe smooth skin there.
âGood morning to you, too.â Alec mumbled a good morning back, but the words werelost in Magnusâ neck.
âAlexander, is that my jumper youâre wearing?â
Alec lifted his head so that his chin was resting on Magnusâshoulder. âMm, yeah it is. But I figured since you werenât there when I wokeup, that it was okay. Plus, Iâm pretty sure those are my sweatpants.â
âThey are. And they are very comfortable, so I may bestealing them.â
âThatâs okay; I quite like seeing you in them.â
Magnus turned his head to press a kiss against the corner ofAlecâs jaw, his lips rubbing against the slight stubble that had started togrow there. They moved away from each other, the two finishing up makingbreakfast, but always still close enough to touch.
The last thing Alec noticed that morning was that he hopedevery morning could be this blissful.
âI went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear, nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion.â

Maia looked down at her phone and with a smile, read the text message from her neighbor and dear friend, Clary,Â
âCome to my window! Iâll be home soon <3âłÂ
She finished cleaning up the bar, said her goodbyes and started her short walk home. She moved into her place about a year ago, and was surprised at the friendliness of the people in the area, but particularly of her artsy neighbor, Clary. Their apartments were across from one another, at the same level. They hung out in person a lot, but there was something so fun and silly about talking through tin cans on strings through all hours of the night. It was their thing.Â
As she walked home, Maia couldnât help but wonder how much of a âthingâ this was. When they had a movie night last weekend, she noticed a small pride flag near Claryâs studio. Maia herself was bisexual, but she was afraid to say anything to Clary despite seeing that little flag. What if she was just an Ally(tm)? Or if her feelings werenât reciprocated? She sighed as she unlocked the door to her place. She couldnât believe the straights think flirting is so hard. They have no idea.Â
She glanced out her window and saw that Claryâs place was still dark. She must be putting in a lot of extra time at the design studio tonight. Maia took a quick shower and changed, then she sat in the chair by the window and waited. She toyed with the can on a string, thinking about how she felt about the other girl. She had to say something. She needed to, or this crush would drive her nuts. Tonight is the night. And she meant it this time.Â
The lights in Claryâs place flipped on and Maia sat up. Butterflies swirled in her stomach and she licked her lips nervously. She toyed with the string on the can anxiously and put on a brave face as she waited for Clary to appear in the window.Â
She waited.Â
And she waited.Â
Maybe she was in the shower? It had been about 15 minutes now....
Maia tensed when she heard someone on the fire escape. What the hell? She quietly set her can down and snuck into her kitchen. A knife? No... thatâs too much. Cutting board? What was she going to do, fan the intruder with it? A frying pan? Perfect!Â
She crept back to the window, the frying pan hidden behind her back. She listened carefully. They were getting closer. A figure appeared, and she wipped out the pan and took a battle stance. The figure pulled their hood down and looked shocked, and Maia practically jumped out of her skin when she was it was Clary.Â
âOh! Um....â Maia started
Clary looked surprised and sheepish, â...I should have texted you first to tell you I was doing this but um... I wanted to talk.âÂ
Maia quickly put the pan down and came closer to the window. She felt breathless, but it wasnât because of adrenaline.Â
âWhat about?â she asked, trying to sound casual.Â
â....us.â Clary said, and Maia felt her stomach do a back flip, âMaia... Iâm a lesbian. And I really, really like you, and I donât care what anyone thinks- I mean I care what you think. Youâre so beautiful and smart and talented and kind- and, fuck I am so gay. I would wait by the light of the mood every night and I have, no matter what and I donât care what theyâll say... what do they know about this love anyway-?â Clary seemed to realize she was rambling slightly and blushed as she watched for Maiaâs reaction.
Maia felt lightheaded, in shock, brimming with joy, surprised, validated- she was a tidal wave of emotions. She opened her mouth to speak, but she couldnât think and nothing came out. She remembered that Luke once told her actions speak louder than words and a huge grin split on her face.Â
Clary was stood close to the window, nervously waiting for what Maia would say, and Maia flung her arms around Claryâs neck and kissed her. There was a warmth and passion to it, but a kind of deep seeded need and desire for closeness. Maia practically melted as Clary folded into her and wrapped her arms around her waist.Â
After about 30 seconds, they broke apart, flushed and breathless, foreheads pressed together, grinning ear to ear. Clary leaned in and kissed Maia again, and she gladly reciprocated. Clary slipped a hand in Maiaâs back pocket as Maia tangled her fingers in her long red hair. Their kisses were slower this time. Warmer. The slower the kiss, the faster the heart beat, and Maia could feel hers leaping in her chest.Â
They broke apart again, foreheads together and Maia closed her eyes, âSo... want to come over?âÂ
Clary laughed and kissed her nose, âI would love that.âÂ
She climbed through her window, and they quickly collapsed into a night of kisses and laughter. And Maia wouldnât have it any other way.Â

It was one of those rare nights where they had time to themselves. They had time to sit, talk, laugh, and not worry about anything else around them. Magnusâ schedule was cleared and Alecâs phone was on silent and left on the end table, far enough away that it wouldnât distract him. Tonight was just about them.
The night started out with the two of them ordering in food, choosing to stay in, dressed in sweatpants and pyjamas. They had their feet up, sat on opposite sides of the sofa, their legs tangled in the middle under a blanket that Magnus had summoned from the bedroom. As the hours went by, and they finished their food, they moved closer and closer together, till Alec was pressed against Magnusâ side, practically in his lap.
They had lost themselves in conversation and wine and cocktails. It didnât take long for the alcohol for get to Alecâs head. Only a few drinks in and he was giggling into Magnusâ shoulder about almost anything, Magnus joining him though Alec knew in the back of his mind that Magnus was nowhere near as drunk as he was, but he enjoyed the weightless feeling of laughing with his boyfriend.
âMagnus, have I ever told you how pretty you are.â Magnus froze; his hand in the air from where he was telling a story. Alec was staring at him, honesty in his eyes and a grin on his face. He leaned forward to press a kiss to Magnusâ cheek, not giving him enough time to process what Alec had just said.
âYouâre very pretty. And I love you very much Magnus. Youâre the best boyfriend ever! Iâm so lucky, I have the prettiest boyfriend.â Alec didnât stop, didnât really know how to stop the words that were flowing from him. Though the look on Magnusâ face made him never want to stop complimenting him. He grabbed Magnusâ hand, flipping it round in his own, admiring and getting distracted by the way their hands looked together.
âI love you too, Alexander.â Alec grinned as Magnus pressed a kiss to his cheek, turning his head to capture his lips. They got lost in the feel of their lips moving together, Magnus moving to run his hands along Alecâs hips. Which in any other situation would have given the moment more heat, but tonight, it just made Alec laugh. He couldnât seem to contain himself as he laughed against Magnusâ lips.
Alec collapsed, his head falling into Magnus lap as he continued to laugh, loudly and unashamed.
âI didnât know you were ticklish, Alexander.â
âNeither did I.â Alec opened his eyes, his laughter fading as he reached up to stroke Magnusâ face.
âYouâre so beautiful.â
âAs are you, my love.â The couple smiled at each other as Alec continued to run his hand across Magnusâ face, and Magnusâ hand massaging Alecâs scalp causing him to hum in appreciation and slowly fall asleep.
When Alec woke up the next morning with Magnus pressed to his side, the pair still on the sofa, he couldnât help but wish for more nights where it was just the two of them. Hangover be damned.
Alec looked up and caught Magnusâ appreciative look in the mirror. He let his gaze wander down his boyfriend from where he was leaning against the door frame.Â
âHey yourself.â Magnus grinned as he walked closer to Alec, and circled his arms around his waist. Alec leaned into the touch, fixing the cuffs of his shirt.Â
âYou look good. Can I ask where you got this from?âÂ
âWhen we went to Milan.â Magnus hummed and brushed his lips along Alecâs exposed neck. He was planning to button them up, but if exposing his throat like this made Magnusâ lips be attached to him, then who was he to complain.
âBehave, we have reservation to get to.â Magnus looked up to look into Alecâs eyes through the mirror, and couldnât help the grin as he looked at the two of them.Â
âOh, darling, whatâs wrong with being fashionably late?â
Alec shook his head and turned in Magnusâ arms and kissed him, pulling him in with a vice like grip on his arms, and they both sank into it, melting at each otherâs touch. Alec pulled back, his breathing heavy, not wanting to move away from the warmth of the man in front of him.Â
âCome on, thereâs plenty of time for that later. Donât want to be late, handsome.â
