Update

Hello everyone, sorry for no posts for so long. I still want to keep working on Alentis, however the friend group I was working on it with kinda fell apart.

I still would like to keep doing it with input from people other than myself, but I'm massively introverted, so that was my one actual friend group.

I haven't decided if I even want to have another friend group like that, as I'm so introverted it left me socially exhausted a lot of the time.

So, since I still want to work on this with other people helping, I thought I would open it up to my Patreon. Sorry for the months long delay between posts! I had no idea it'd take this long to make a map (well, technically multiple maps.) Now I know for the future.

It may be a bit before the next post, as my current plans for Alentis are to work on more maps. The next one will either be a map for an island a friend created or a map of Shventikla Island. Stay tuned!

The design sheet for the Outer Ring! A lot of the islands throughout the rings, I drew inspiration from icebergs, but the Outer Ring is probably where the iceberg references came in the most handy.

The Outer Ring of Alentis is the thinnest habitable zone of the planet, as well as the highest altitude. As a result, the climate on the Outer Ring is uniformly cold throughout. The Outer Ring is as sparsely populated as the Core Islands. The atmosphere is thinner here, and the gravity weaker. Smaller islands, dust, and bits of frozen water float among the Outer Ring Islands, and occasionally escape the pull of the God of Gravity, floating out into space. The high amount of dust in the Outer Ring make dust storms a common hazard and can make travel between the islands more risky than it is on the lower zones.

The Inner Ring Islands of Alentis forbit in a thin, symmetrical ring around the Core and Core Islands far below. Unlike the Core Islands, their climate doesn't change dramatically between islands at different altitudes, though there are some small differences. The higher islands tend to be a little colder and have a little more snow, whereas the lower ones tend to be a little warmer. The range is similar to the climate range in the pacific northwest of North America.

Most of Alentis' large civilizations are located on the Inner Ring, as the stable and mild climate made agriculture much easier to pursue for people trying to find a way to settle down and reach normality after the war of the gods. However. since maintaining the delicate balances of nature, civilization, and other elements is important to keep Alentis functioning, overpopulation and stripping the land of resources never became a problem.

The design sheet for the Core Islands concept! the process was a little bit different this time because I figured there were only so many ways to present a range of islands with differing climates so instead I drew one sketch and then my Discord gave suggestions for what to add to make it look better and tell the story it needs to.

The Core Islands of Alentis are the hottest lands on the planet, with the coolest climates in this zone being the steamy jungles and hot plains up the uppermost Core Islands, and the hottest islands being the uninhabitable lowest islands in the orbit. The lower islands are often swamped with molten bismuth, sulfur, and other elements. However, sometimes ancient ruins can be seen on the lower islands, melted beyond recognition by the molten rock flowing around them.

While populations here are sparser than the islands on the Inner Ring due to the temperatures, some of the most devoted followers of the gods live on the Core Islands, most of them followers of the God of Gravity.

The water on the Core Islands gives off steam from the hot temperatures, but is usually safe to drink once left to cool. Swimming in the boiling water of islands closer habitable islands to the core is generally not recommended, however.

The bottoms of the core islands tend to be melted and fuse from brushes with the lava, and some of the civilizations here chip off the twisted rocks and minerals to fashion into trinkets, tools, and weapons.
