Been a few weeks since last D&D session and I'm sat down to prepare for tonight's one and like. I know this next part of the story is going to need some in-depth work but I don't have the details and it all feels so close in my brain. The idea is right there but my thoughts are passing straight through it like smoke and nothing is sticking

And I hate leaving myself to come up with plot points and specific info on the fly while in the session because my impov doesn't work like that :/

OH I kept forgetting to ask -

Any DM tips for playing/creating an evil doppelganger type character of a PC?

The simple premise is that this doppelganger is being used by very powerful npc's to embarrass and blackmail the PC's father, but I can provide more context if needed

One of my favourite things about creating my own dnd campaign and homebrew world, is getting to pull as much inspiration as I want from other things that I love

The party was asked to meet a 'spymaster' of sorts, with only a couple clues to go on. They started in a bathhouse which had a secret entrance down into unused tunnels/storm drains/aqueducts beneath the city, past a crumbled section of tunnel that broke through into centuries old catacombs, and finally to their spymaster who was set up in a large, dried out step well

In order, my specific inspirations were: Dijkstra's bathhouse connected to the secret passages under Novigrad from the Witcher 3, the undercity sewers and their multiple dangers from Baldur's Gate 3, and the Thieves Guild base of operations in the old cistern beneath Riften in Skyrim

And it just makes me inordinately happy to do this

D&D session tonight got cancelled (bc our backyard is still part of the house fire crime scene and police were doing checks on anyone coming in or out of the property) and then uncancelled (bc I asked the officer if we could have guests and they said yeah that's cool and they'll hopefully be leaving in a few hours anyay)

So. Group chat got sent this. Yay lol :D

"I'll make a fun table of weather events for players to roll each in-game day! " I said when I started the campaign

"It'll be so crazy if they manage to roll for a 'Strange Phenomena' event! " I said when I started the campaign

"What the fuck this is the THIRD TIME they've rolled a STRANGE PHENOMENA EVENT in 33 sessions " I say now, blinking in disbelief

"They're going to experience a fucking unpredicted solar eclipse next session " I say now, thinking about how I'm going to dm that

"It's only been 17 IN-GAME DAYS and this is the THIRD STRANGE PHENOMENA EVENT " I say now, wondering how they managed to roll this again

Only within the last dozen sessions or so, have I actually begun naming them in my files (other than the session number) after either something a player has said or the general vibe of the session

As you can tell, this is a serious fantasy campaign with serious characters and serio- ah fuck it, one session involved discussion about why the Piss Alley was known as Piss Alley 😂💀

Also the full name of Session 44 is "TOO Chicken, but Not Chicken Enough", in reference to how they described the Weird Fucking Chicken that they met on the road, which actually turned out to be a Cockatrice
