Weekend Wandering: 26.04.15 - Pick Me Up, London

I've found myself in London on several occasions of late, and on 26th April, my visit included Pick Me Up graphic arts festival at Somerset House. This was my first (albeit brief) Pick Me Up experience, although it's been recommended to me before and I would happily recommend it to others, I only wish I'd had more time to explore! I started by having a lovely chat with the ladies at Supergraph and wishing I could visit their amazing sounding art fair over in Australia, whilst falling in love with the work of Melbourne illustrator, Annie Davidson. I was too short to be able to get a good snap of her work to share with you, so you'd be better off checking out her work on her own site, here!

Further exploration led me through a whole room dedicated to Lazy Oaf and several smaller rooms where these pieces by Alex Binnie caught my eye...

Back in the main part of the fair, I resisted the temptation of delicious smelling coffee & treats and headed towards the very busy Ohh Deer stand, complete with Gemma Correll cat & pug bunting...

And at the very end of my visit, I had a super chat with the lovely Sarah Maycock whilst creating an inky alligator to add to her Pick Me Up Ink Zoo...

Next year I'm reserving the whole day so I can have a really good look around! The 26th was also the day of the London Marathon, which I somehow hadn't realised before my visit, and after leaving Somerset House I found myself just before mile 25 - where Paula Radcliffe ran past, followed by three helicopters and a motorbike!  An inspirational day to say the least :)

Calling Duncan X iconic within the tattoo world could seem like an understatement to some,  as an integral part of Alex Binnie’s Into You shop in Clerkenwell, Mr X has been turning out some of the most abrasive black work tattoos since before the shops inception.

His severe appearance is completely authentic to his own art work and lifestyle. The completely original trademark style of tattooing that Duncan has so perfectly translated is solidly black and overwhelmingly brutal in its imagery. Reading almost like a cliche, stories of his progressive and intense life have quite literally been imbedded into his skin.
