So, I'm a little (ha!) behind in my season 7 rewatch of OITNB, but I'm up to 7x06 and I just finished watching the scene above---new parolee Piper's first visitation after her bloob-fueled slipup (which nearly lands her back in prison with Alex). She misses Alex, she's frustrated by the restrictions on her personal freedom, so she's acting out...in a very unwise and dangerous way. Alex is, understandably, concerned but (as usual) tries to cheer Piper up with her trademark sardonic humour --"I guess we're two fucked-up peas in a pod"-- to which Piper responds "I wanna be in your pod." Alex's wistful response: "Me too...(sighs)...Too bad we're not even in the same garden." The (crappy-looking) gif (I created) above starts with Piper's frown after Alex's line....and then we have Alex's non-verbal response. I've been singing the praises of Laura Prepon's non-verbal acting on this show for years on my tumblr. It's a small moment, but it speaks volumes. After the "garden" line, Alex looks down at something out of the frame, moves her left hand (to press her hand against the glass where Piper's hand is, I strongly suspect)... and then locks eyes with Piper (with *that* look) for...well, seemingly, forever. She doesn't have to say a word because everything she feels about Piper is in that look---all the love and adoration and hope and longing. I could go on and on, but you know what I mean if you've ever watched the series. I will never get over how Alex looks at Piper. Never.

saddest vauseman scene?

I was initially going to say the scene in s6 which Piper tells Alex she’s being released early---it’s so upsetting for both of them---but as Alex said to Piper "It's a good thing. Trust me." ... and she's right. Because of that, the saddest Vauseman scene to me would have to be the library scene from 1x13 in which Piper tells Alex "I pick him. I pick Larry.". Why? Because as much as my heart broke for Alex (her expression in this gif kills me ---I talk at length about in this old post). I felt equally horribly for Piper, because she chose the person she /thought/ she should be with, not who she /wanted/ to be with. She knew it, Alex knew it, we all knew it. And that's a damned tragedy :(Thanks for the 'ask'.

Even though it was a very quick scene, I loved when Piper said ‘We have a wedding to plan’. Alex seemed like she was in a mixture of happiness, surprise and almost in a state of disbelief that this was actually happening. That they were actually engaged. She had to stop and take a deep breath before she could reply ‘in 4 years...when I get out’. It was a sweet scene and really proved how much Piper had grown and how into their relationship she really is.

I completely agree :) Just look at Alex’s face here....Have you ever seen that look on her face before? It's like she was mentally pinching herself in disbelief :)

i love in flashbacks as well as most of the first season everyone other than nicky was cautious and skeptical of alex. like she would snap at any moment. and yet in every flashback or present scene with piper - no matter if they are fighting or happy or what - alex looks different. like even in fights with piper her face creases a different way as if she’s the only person who could truly break her. and when she smiles at piper it’s like she’s the happiest she’s ever been every time.

I totally agree. Alex’s face (well, her whole /self/) kind of softens when she’s around Piper...and it’s a beautiful thing to see :)Thanks for the ‘ask’!
