My INFP Music Series: First Listen #1
Disclaimer: This is all based on my own preferences and opinion. Not all INFPs would necessarily agree with me.
MINFPMS: First Listen is a sub-series of MINFPMS that will be for albums or a random grab of suggested songs that I haven’t listened to whether they are old or recently released. While listening to the album, I will write my initial thoughts in a stream of consciousness format. The only editing I will do will be spelling and grammar related because I want it to reflect my original thoughts of the album as closely a possible. I literally go into these with no prior knowledge to the point that if it’s more than one person I probably won’t even know their names.
Do you happen to have a suggestion for me? A song, an album, an artist? Click here to submit a suggestion an I’ll add it to my list of reviews! if the link doesn’t work, copy this URL: https://forms.gle/RXjRdgVSoH4bFxmG8

A song on this album “Head High” by Alexander Jean was a recommendation by an artist that I really like and since I had never listened to their music before, I decided to just give the entire album a listen and write down my thoughts. Thus this new sub-series in My INFP Music Playlist series is born.
Thief
I’m getting a strong rocking country vibe from the track, it’s 100% one of those toe-tapping songs, makes me want to hop into a line dance and just have a good time. A great way to start in the album, it’s pulling my interest in and makes me want to keep listening. Strong country-rock undertones for me (that’s just who the sound reminds me of). This makes me happy and has a fun sound like when I listen to artists like Carrie Underwood. A great return woman scorned anthem. The vocals are powerful and really fill out the sound, they don’t cover the instrumental and aren’t overwhelming.
Roses and Violets
A mid-tempo song, to slow down the kick-off. Her voice is more passionate(?) more soulful(?). I’m already falling in love with her voice and it’s only song two. It has such a range and can capture so easily. I’m a sucker for strings and keys and ballads are amazing when done well so this makes this track my favorite as of now. Already singing the chorus before the song ended so that’s also a plus. This song makes me want to sing so much. The ending with the light piano is a great addition.
So Bad
Picks up the tempo/pace a bit but not too much. Ooo a mix of female and male vocals in this one. Their voices exchange/transition very well, they both have very light tones in this one. So far the lyrics are catching my attention too. I don’t know why it took me to notice the acoustic guitar in the background but its top tier. Between the exchange of that and the piano, it makes a great rhythm. This is my favorite track so far music-wise due to that, the bridge and the break with an electric guitar that pulls it together well.
Head High
The male’s voice is amazing! I typically lean more towards male voices in songs like this and he has that sound, breathiness, the softness that I love. These lyrics are really relatable too and I’m really enjoying it. The female’s voice blends in so well and her lightness is really appealing to me. The tone of the strings and guitar are very complimentary to their voices and really create the ambiance of thoughtfulness and that kind of floaty mood that mixes well with songs with this type of message. The bridge with the chanting and stopping comes in at a great place and elevates the song well. A great transition. I wasn’t expecting it to come back but I think it did well
Whiskey and Morphine
This is the song Namjoon suggested. This song has a jazzier haunting feeling to it. The line “I’m on the verge of painting with my brains, help me” hit really hard especially with the placement of the loss of the instrumentals in the background. I don’t know, some of the lines are really hitting me with some memories of not too past thoughts. “I’m on the verge of swallowing a loaded gun.” “The stairs are moving quicker than I’m moving” “Am I tripping over absolutely nothing.”
Run
Picks up quicker than I would expect after the last song. This seems like a vocally strong song. It sounds like a strong for an internal fight. The lyrics really reinforce that too. It kind of implies running to avoid the thoughts from the previous track. I don’t think this song has the smoothest transitions for the varying parts of the song. My favorite aspect is the melody and music itself and the end is more capturing for me than the beginning and lifted the song in my mind a bit.
Final Quick Thoughts
For the most part, the album had an interesting blend of genres, I felt some ballads, jazz, a bit of country thrown in there. I really enjoyed this. The progression and the flow of this album was a solid experience and I felt like I rode a journey of thoughts into doubt into perseverance.
