The Brest Fortress (2010) also known as Fortress of War is a classic example of Russian mastery over WWII films. It’s a film that tells the true story of the battle of the Brest Fortress that took place in the Russian front in 1941 June 21st. The story is about a heroic group of 9000 Soviet Red Army soldiers holding out at the fort against a strong attack by 17000 crack German Wehrmacht troops supported by two Panzer divisions. The attack was unannounced and sudden and that was the start of the operation Barbarosa (Invasion of Soviet Union). With sudden bombardment by canons and air raids the Germans took the Soviets at Brest Fortress by surprise and caused heavy damage. The soviets put up a heroic defence divided in small groups. I have seen very less so intense hand to hand battle scenes that I saw in this film. The film accurately tells the story of the war heros of Soviet Union. Alexander Kott has directed a masterpiece of a war film, which can be called war film of the decade.
