IndieCade’s ShowCase @ E3:
Homework From Another World by Somber Piranha (Alexander Mathew, Scott Stephan, & Mike Shea)
Homework From Another World is an Oculus Rift-ready stealth and exploration game built for IndieCade's E3 booth. Developed by USC Interactive Media MFA students Scott Stephan and Alex Mathew with an art assist from New York-based illustrator Mike Shea, HFAW is the story of K'arl, a Martian high school student about to graduate the 114th grade. When K'arl fails his Alien Ethnography final, he has only one shot at graduating on time: Go to the backwater planet known as Earth and deliver a field report by scanning and abducting objects.
The player first scans an object, learning what it is what it does on Earth, earning extra credit points in the process. They then have the chance to abduct the scanned object into their UFO. Doing so gets them extra points, but makes it harder to find places to hide. If a farmer spots K'arl in the field and manages to catch him, K'arl is immediately sucked up into his UFO and brought home.
The immersive potential of the Oculus Rift turns this game of Hide and Seek into a heart-pounding, thrilling adventure. HFAW is currently in active development and will be available for download at scottstephan.org after E3.
