She has three current releases: Waking, She Heard The Fluttering and A Necessary Softness at Room40, Immaterial at Longform Editions, and two forthcoming releases, one on Canti Magnetici and a collaboration with M.P. "When I moved to Canada I was surprised with how quickly my voice picked up the accent, it confused my sense of identity as an Australian. I didn't feel in control, my voice didn't feel entirely my own anymore. Inversely, upon relocating to Australia I was saddened when my Canadian intonations began to dissipate, this part of my identity, no longer audible, was being involuntarily let go by my body.
I wanted this mix to focus on the voice (housed in breath and body). The voice beginning within and reaching outward - unravelling and connecting, degrading, and changing form, leaving traces along the way. This is a mix of artists I admire working with voice: sung, spoken, neighed, whispered, whistled.
The last two tracks are from my sophomore album, A Necessary Softness, out April 16 on Room40: alexandraspence.bandcamp.com/album/a-ne…y-softness"
