Mia Joy - 12th house stelluim (Self-Released)

Just signed to Fire Talk with a new song out today, Mia Joy has been dropping some fresh material over the last few months. 12th house stelluim is a fascinating look at the evolution of Joy’s songwriting since her 2017 debut, Gemini Moon. These are ambient pop bedroom recordings guided by hushed vocal tones that float by at their own deliberate pace. There’s always been an airy quality to Joy’s indie dream pop sound but she fully embraces it on 12th house stelluim, weaving ethereal webs all around the listener. There is a lovely Paul McCartney cover (”One Of These Days”) thrown in the middle for a nice change of pace. The closer “Thru song, I feel you,” is a real highlight here as Joy awakens from somber tones. The instrumental track is bursting with horns, overflowing with life and hopefully is a sign of more to come in this vein. 12th house stelluim proves the surface of Joy’s creative songwriting has barely been scratched so far.
