Coming to you in Cinemascope...
We've been rehearsing the scene of the Trinity Test on July 16, 1945. This is footage of a later atomic bomb detonation, filmed in 35mm wide-angle color. This is what I imagine Trinity looked like from 20 miles out. I'm watching it on a MacBook and I'm awestruck. What must it have been like to see this, for the first time ever...to know you had created this?
Probably one of FDR's most inspiring speeches.

All Go Boom
Jonathan Alexandratos has written a play called CHAIN REACTION (a comedy about the making of the atomic bomb). I'm endlessly fascinated with the men, women and machines of World War II, and most especially with that herculean technical achievement of creating a machine that could end all of our lives like that (snaps fingers).
In observance of Jonathan's submitting the play to FringeNYC, I direct your attention to a great storyteller, Mr. Richard Rhodes. He pretty much owns this subject.
