Another Day of Devotion is on the horizon and yet another year Alfonse has spent playing with the idea of using the opportunity to confess his undying devotion to you. Last year had himself regretting not confessing, for when the day was done, you and he were both standing together alone.
"Not devoting yourself to anyone this year?" You had asked, attention focused on the setting sun peaking through the arch. Alfonse, at that time noted how the orange hues danced across your face, and thought them to be different from all the times the sun had set in front of you before.
"I devote myself to my people, as I did the last." He eventually replied. You had nodded thoughtfully to his words. "Although I do hope in future to be able to have someone stand by my side." An image of you standing by his side had lingered in his mind after he had shared his thoughts. "And you?" You had turned to him at that point.
"If you're devoted to your people, I guess that means I'm devoted to you." His heart had almost leaped out of his chest. The mere idea of your devotion enough to eat away any sensibility the prince may have had. "Well your cause anyways." But you had rephrased your words, and as disappointment slithered itself around his heart, he regained his composure.
"And for that you have mine and Askr's gratitude." As the sun disappeared behind the horizon Alfonse had vowed to himself that next year he wouldn't squander this opportunity.
Now all he has to do is follow through with that vow and hope you feel the same.
