I'm interested in hearing your headcanons for what kind of person each of the boys would be attracted too
*casually interacts for the first time; pretending like I haven't been obsessed with you and your content since 2019*
Sorry for the late reply! But that seems to be the general consensus with some of my readers 🥴
I do have some lurkers, but I love them anyway 🫣
Who Alfred, Allen, Matt and Mathias would be attracted to
Alfred
Alfred would be the most attracted to someone similar to him. I feel like this is already something we all agree on, but he’d feel the most connected to someone with the same interests and hobbies as him. It’s just what he wants from a relationship, i.e., someone to be a nerd with. He’s also the type to develop feelings for a friend, rather than just right off the bat. So that’s all the more reason why he’d go for girls already on the same wavelength as him. Alfred is also kind of judgemental towards women who don’t know anything about the things he likes, but that’s a story for another time 😬
I won’t say much about physical attraction for obvious reasons, but he’s definitely a guy who would go for a pretty face rather than their body.
Allen
Allen would be the most attracted to women who are nurturing. He needs someone to be gentle with him, because he does have those moments 🥴 But also someone who’s strict enough to know what’s good for him. It has to be both. He’ll try his best to protect and provide, but he ends up being protected and provided for a lot of the times 😭 So what I’m trying to say is that he really wants to be traditionally masculine as he feels most wanted and attractive that way, only he ends up being the exact opposite. Like he’ll say he’s the man of the house, then shut up and listen to his woman like she’s a drill sergeant 💀 Yes ma’am, no ma’am, right away ma’am. Little does he know, that’s actually the most attractive part about him 😭🙏
As for appearance, he has a weakness for pretty eyes and someone who’s a great deal smaller than him. Allen likes feeling able to protect and cover you with his body (for intimate reasons too)
Matt
Matt would be the most attracted to someone who isn’t afraid of him. Someone who’s different to him (which is quite easy because he’s a bit of a case study). Someone who can stand their ground and put up a fight, especially when he’s not that easy to get along with when it comes down to it. He can be pretty set in his ways, so he can be real stubborn for no reason. Part of it is justified, part of it is just him being a little shit. So if you put him in his place, he’ll get super turned on. Not only is arguing kind of hot to him (being able to have conflict implies closeness and something worth fighting for), he’s never had any resistance against him in his life whatsoever, so to finally have that is a reminder that he’s officially met his match.
And sure, he likes pretty faces, but he’s definitely an ass guy. Sorry to be crass, though that’s just the kind of person he is.
Mathias
Last but not least, is Mathias. He finds women that are self-assured and independent to be utterly irresistible, especially when they show cracks in their personality that reveal something softer underneath. They don’t even have to be successful professionally, they just need to have a strong sense of self (He likes a woman with boundaries, maybe because he wants to cross them like the POS he can be) He has a thing for a push-pull dynamic, only he’s always chasing and never removes himself from you. He isn’t doing it for the love of the game, it just drives him crazy when a woman who doesn’t need him, wants him. He appreciates the concept of distance just so he can close it. Like, you kind of hate me sometimes, but since you love me you’ll let it slide and that really turns me on 🥴
As for looks, he is a bit of a sex fiend, so if you have it all, mhm. He’s not gonna be able to keep his hands off of you. He doesn’t have impossible standards, so he’ll certainly appreciate a good form when he sees one 👁️
Synopsis: Being born into Russian high society is just as much of a blessing as it is a curse. You live a life of comfort and luxury, but at the expense of your own happiness. Just when you think you’ve had enough, a man catches your eye, and looking at him is like looking into a mirror. You eventually meet him at a ball, and upon dancing with him, an intense, unspoken passion begins.
As you get closer to him, you start falling for his intelligence and sensitivity. But he keeps retreating within himself and running away, breaking your heart in the process. You eventually track him down on a train leaving Moscow, and in a fit of passion, you slap him across the face. Shocked by the magnitude of your feelings, he chases you with no intention of letting the fire die out.
Imperial Russia, 1875. A frozen empire on the brink of collapse. While the rest of Europe liberated itself from decadence and poverty, the state remained an antique of the past. There was still a stark division between high society and peasants. You either worked the land or went to dizzying ballroom parties until you went mad from the decadence of it all.
That was your life.
Only you always thought you were born on the wrong side of history. Not that you ever said it out loud, because how could you? Having come from a long line of nobility, everything was handed to you with a silver spoon. Money, lavish estates, a noble name, all inherited from the past generations of your family.
“Gilbert? Are you ready?” You marched down the hall, heels clacking against the floor. The dress you wore was white, off-shoulder, and poured elegantly down to your feet. Around your neck was a delicate string of pearls, and hanging from your ears was a pair of dainty earrings. Everything you wore was fit for a bride, which was fitting for your circumstances.
“Almost!”
You arrived at the doorway of your cousin’s bedroom, and the man himself was standing in front of a mirror, checking his appearance. He was in a white tuxedo, making for quite the dashing bachelor. For someone who had no absolutely no interest in being tied down, he always tried so hard for high society.
“Why is it that every time we go to parties, you’re always the last one out the door?” You asked.
“I’m not good with time, you know that.” He turned to you, arms stiffly by his sides. “So, how do I look?”
“Irresistible.”
“Good. You don’t look too bad yourself,” He walked over, getting you to let out a laugh. “Now let’s get going.”
“You know, I’m starting to get tired of these parties,” You admitted as you both descended the staircase. Waiting just outside the front door was the family’s horse and carriage. “Seems like an awful lot of effort to meet people you’ll never even talk to again.”
“No, it’s for when you accidentally bump into them on your train ride to and from Moscow,” He grinned.
“You got that right.” You mused.
It was lonely staying by yourself in Saint Petersburg. Every year when Winter came rolling around, turning the country into a snowy wasteland, it was practically unbearable. Fortunately, you had a cousin to share your pain with, and he just so happened to despise the country’s state of affairs as much as you.
“I’m really glad for you, Gilbert. I don’t know what I’d do without you,” You commented in the carriage.
“Of course you are,” He hummed, though his mirth only lasted so long when he caught the expression you had. It was a little sad, but perhaps you’d been that way for quite some time. “I know that look.”
You lifted your gaze to him quietly.
“What’s wrong?” He leaned in from across you.
“It’s nothing.” You sighed, turning away.
“It’s never nothing.” He plopped down next to you.
“Okay, fine. I just don’t know if this kind of life is right for me. All the socializing, the dancing, I just can’t take it anymore. I’m putting on some kind of persona so I’m not rejected from everything I’ve ever known.”
Gilbert softened his gaze as he listened to you speak. And you were right about everything. He wasn’t one to follow rules, or rather, he had quite the disdain for them. He was childish, eccentric, and had no qualms against staying that way forever. But high society was just as much of a curse as it was a blessing.
“Yeah.” He murmured, gaze falling.
If you didn’t fit in, you were as good as dead.
“Maybe I should’ve been a farmer.” You mused.
“Trust me. You do not want to be a farmer.”
“So I just marry rich and the end?”
“That’s how the world works, unfortunately.”
”That’s how Russia works.” You corrected.
“Yeah, but it worked out pretty well for the two of us, didn’t it? Look on the bright side.” The albino kicked back next to you. If you didn’t already know him, you’d say he was everything wrong with this country.
“You say that now, but when it’s your turn to get married, you won’t be this relaxed.” You remarked.
“I’m twenty-two. I still have time,” He closed his eyes. Not a moment passed before he opened one to look at you teasingly. “You’re running out of it, though. You’re telling me you’re a twenty year-old woman and still unmarried? There must be something wro-”
You glared at him and he shut up pretty quick.
“I just want to meet the right person, okay? Is that really too much to ask for?” You frowned again.
“Ah, you’re so old-fashioned, (F/N).” Gilbert almost swooned. “But that’s why you’re my favorite.”
Ever since your debut two years ago, the subject had been looming over you as the bane of your existence. Finding the one, though it was more of a social obligation than something you really wanted. Romantic love was an illusion of the old order. People married for duty, and you feared that one day, you would have to too. All of these social events and soirées were for that reason, and the more you lingered on that, the less enchanting they seemed.
The grandest estates could not tempt you, nor the glistening chandeliers that hung overhead. Not the enticing display of exotic fruits on the refreshments table, nor the enchanting string instruments. When you got to the dance floor, you curtsied for your partner, who was one of many that you would cycle through that night. Their faces were a blur, their conversations a bore, each a copy of a copy.
None of this was real.
All of this was an illusion, a distraction for the dawn of an empire. You’d been stuck in this haze for many years, only now just realizing the thickness of it, like this life was everything you would ever know. All of these thoughts raced through your head until your heart began pounding, like you were on the verge of collapsing. The room spun faster and faster as you lost yourself, but that was when you saw him.
A uniformed cavalry officer in all white.
You were never one to stare, let alone at a man, but his appearance was so unique, it was distracting. What more was that he was so tall and broad, it was hard not to look at him. But you did more than just that. As he stood near the edge of the ballroom, you gave him a few curious glances, perhaps too many to be considered inconspicuous. His skin was whiter than snow, soft and smooth like powder. He had a long and rather large nose, but it suited him. As for his hair, it was platinum blonde, and slightly wavy.
It framed a matured and full face that scanned the room for other people-watchers. He seemed a lot more observant than most, and perhaps that served a role in his isolation. But that made the two of you.
As if he felt your stare on him, he glanced at you.
Then, he smiled.
You froze, hypnotized by his eyes. In your lifetime here in Russia, you’ve never seen anything like them. His eyes were a soft lavender, and so vivid against his white cap. They were devastatingly beautiful and so rare, you felt lonely just by gazing into them. Or was it because it felt like you were looking into a mirror?
A week later, you attended an opera with Gilbert.
The man was escaping your mind by then, but fate decided otherwise. As you sat amongst hundreds of faces, yours was being watched by someone else. You scanned the audience with your opera glasses as the woman on stage performed her piece, reaching a high crescendo. That was when you spotted him.
The officer from the ball.
And he was already staring at you.
Your eyes went wide ever so slowly, enchanted by how bold he was being. He wasn’t nervous about being discovered at all, even removing his opera glasses to show his striking lavender eyes, as if to show it was him. It was riveting to be noticed, and even more so when he made it obvious. He wanted you to know he was watching you, just as you had been watching him. What were his intentions?
Or was it all a mere coincidence?
You didn’t know what to think, but one thing was for sure. He had piqued your attention, and you made it a point to find out who he was. The next time you saw him again was at another ball, and once the opportunity came, you walked up to your cousin to do exactly that. He was drinking vodka out of a glass, and he didn’t seem like he’d stop anytime soon.
“Who’s that?” You stared back at the man.
“Ivan Braginsky,” Gilbert answered.
Finally, a name to match the face.
Funnily enough, your cousin didn’t need to look to confirm who you were staring at. Had the man done something to warrant such a reputation, or was it his captivating looks that called for so much attention?
“Another rich cavalry officer, I guess. Apparently, he doesn’t care for women -- if you know what I mean.”
There it was.
“Where did you hear that from?” You shot him a look, strangely disheartened by the thought.
“Word of mouth, what else?”
“And you listen to that nonsense?”
“It’s not just me. See how everybody else is strategically avoiding him aside from a polite nod?”
You turned to the officer, watching him for a short period before noticing he was indeed the solitary type. He never waltzed with any women, and nobody seemed to be striking up much conversation with him aside from other officers. You didn’t know what to feel, stark indifference, or embarrassment that the man you had been staring at didn’t swing that way.
“Stop it, Gilbert. You sound just like them.”
But as opposed as you were to the idea, you couldn’t bring yourself to do it. In a world like this one, outside opinion became your reality. People loved to talk, so if you happened to be the subject, you better hope it was something good. When you thought of it that way, your spunk had all but reduced to nothing.
It was easier to just do what everybody else was doing. To tread lightly against the water without causing any ripples. It was the reason why you were so miserable, and yet, you were paralyzed.
You resorted to just watching him on the mezzanine, surrounded by his friends. By then, your fixation on him was no longer out of mere curiosity. He was attractive, and judging from how he looked back at you, that attraction was mutual. The reciprocation left much to be desired, like an invitation to start something. It drew you in like all things forbidden, though the only object was the peace of your old life.
And rather than speaking, you chose to die.
But he chose the latter.
“Demoralizing, isn’t it?”
A deep voice startled you, having come from behind. When you turned to it, you came face to face with Ivan. He was even more striking up close, and you weren’t prepared for what felt like worlds colliding.
“Excuse me?” Your brows came together.
“This is all theatre,” Ivan replied, lowering his head to you. “Everything you do and say is watched.”
“Is that so?” Interest laced your tone, fascinated by the eccentric talking point. This was your first time meeting him, and yet, he didn’t bother with niceties.“Do you think we’re being watched right now?”
“Of course.” He held out a gloved hand, palm facing up. He was forward, but only at your permission. Nothing he did was intrusive, as if he observed you for all your limits and lingered on them until you gave him your consent to go further. For that, the way he carried himself was so mysterious, but also deeply alluring. “Let’s give them something to talk about.”
You slid your hand into his, diving into the fire that was his world — and much to your wonder, yours.
Ivan led you to the dance floor, and all the heads in the room turned, one by one. Some peered around to get a better look, even. It was the most unexpected development yet, the man they’d written off to be a social outcast, next to a young debutante with an established name. You two looked good together too, but neither of those reasons would account for the amount of attention you and Ivan would receive.
It started off innocent like any other couple on the floor. A graceful waltz straight out of a fairytale.
Your palms came together, and with his hand on your waist, he guided you effortlessly amongst the other guests. You danced with him across the room, but you felt so light, it was like flying. Everything that had ever weighed you down was lifted, unburdened by everything that had been. Your dress flared out as he spun you in circles, but it wasn’t dizzying in the least.
In fact, your head had never been clearer.
For the world had all been drowned out.
The only thing you could see was him, and him, you. Even for just that moment, you were the center of each other’s universe. You were his sun, and he was yours. You two revolved around each other, basking in each other’s warmth that nourished a new life. And as the night went on, he never switched you with any other women. He didn’t have any intention to dance with anybody else, but neither did you. Slowly, but surely, it became undeniable what was developing between you two. He lifted you up and spun you in the air. Then, you took the risk to look down at him.
You and Ivan locked in a deep stare.
That was when you knew.
There was a budding passion between you and Ivan. With your mouth agape, you held onto his face to stabilize yourself. Breaths poured from your lips, and he welcomed them on instinct by opening his own. All this time, it wasn’t just the devastating beauty of his eyes that touched you, nor the coherence behind them. It was that they were looking at you.
The music stopped, and everything was sealed with a daring act. When he put you down, he did it so that your nose would slide against his. It was the first time that you made skin-to-skin contact with him, and it was so electric, you closed your eyes to savor it.
This had all been just a dance.
And yet, it felt like you two had just made love.
Needless to say, the blatant disregard for everyone else in the room was the most selfish, yet erotic experience of your life. When he parted ways with you, he didn’t say anything. Instead, he brought your hand to his mouth and kissed it. His lips lingered on you, and he lifted his gaze to you once more, almost as if to repeat everything that had already been said.
Then, he bowed, leaving you for the night.
Not that you even got any sleep after a high like that.
But your hopes were crushed as quickly as they were raised. You didn’t see him for a while after that, and he didn’t write to you either. A part of you hoped that he would find your address because he wanted to, but he never did. It left you incredibly disappointed, even confused after such a beautiful night together. Had everything you felt just been a fling, or worse, entirely made up in your mind? In your melancholy, you went to the city to get yourself some flowers.
But when you got inside the shop, you laid eyes on the reason for your woes. You could recognize that silver-blonde hair from anywhere, and subsequently, the person it belonged to. Even with his back turned to you in a crouch, you instantly knew who it was.
“Ivan.” You let out.
“(F/N),” The man turned to you, eyes widened.
His guard dropped at the sudden encounter. You just caught him in his private life, and while that wasn’t a problem on its own, he imagined his second time speaking to you would be when he was a little more prepared. But he couldn’t deny how delighted he was, even if he tried to mask it to an acceptable level. He stood up and dusted his pants, smile growing.
“It’s good to see you.”
“It’s good to see you too. What are you doing?”
“Just running some errands.” Ivan replied, picking up a bucket of sunflowers from the ground.
“For yourself?” You asked with a curious tone.
“Yes, sunflowers are my favorite,” He laughed like he didn’t want to admit it, but he did anyway. He carried them to the cashier, but he promptly returned to get another one. “I like putting them in my windows.”
“Oh, that’s nice,” You smiled some. It was cute, even, but you refrained from saying it out loud. He was shy enough about it as is, so you thought of the next best thing. “I was buying some flowers for myself too.”
“Really?” He lit up.
“Yeah. Just some roses.” You hummed.
“Let me get them for you.” He offered, put off by the thought that you were doing the same thing as him.
“That’s very generous of you, but I couldn’t—”
“I insist.” Ivan lowered his eyes to you.
In his mind, people buying flowers for themselves meant they could’ve had better days. Maybe it was just an egotistical way of thinking, but he assumed it was the same way for you. If he could do the least of getting you a rose, he would sleep better at night.
That sincerity seeped through him and made it impossible for you to refuse. So you relented.
“Thank you, Ivan. This is really, really sweet of you.”
“You’re welcome.”
After he paid for them, he handed you a generous bouquet of red roses wrapped in delicate, colored paper. The gesture was so kind, it almost made up for the anguish you had felt recently. While you admired the floral arrangement, your mind returned to that night — you softened your gaze and peered up at him shyly. “You know, I’ve always wanted to say that I had a really good time with you that night.”
Ivan leaned back slightly, taken aback by your words. It was natural for you to say, but he was so used to being alone, the thought of being considered was so riveting that he had to ground himself after the fact.
“You’re a great dancer.” You complimented.
“So are you.”
“I was hoping that you’d write me too.” You lowered your gaze, missing the surprise that crossed his face.
“You were?” He blinked.
“Would that be inappropriate?” You glanced up at him quickly, feeling a frown start coming in.
“No, but that’s what I thought myself. I thought that it would make you uncomfortable.” His eyes widened as he spoke candidly. It was incredible how at ease he was around you, but your unapologetic honesty had him scrambling to meet you in the middle.
“Not at all. I was actually bothered that you didn’t.”
“I’m sorry,” He apologized. “I’ll write to you tonight, so it should come in a few days. Don’t worry.”
“Good. I’ll be waiting,” You beamed, turning to leave the shop. Excitement washed over you like all was right in the world again. But before you left, you had to ride out the high with one last comment. And it caught him even more off guard than the entire encounter itself. “You seem more like yourself today.”
“What do you mean?” He paused.
“Because you were unprepared.” You answered.
Ivan wrote to you right when he got home, inviting you to tea the following week. The café he waited in could pass for the lobby of a luxury hotel, but it was nothing you weren’t used to. Ceilings high enough for an eagle to soar in, and smooth marble pillars to hold them up. Artisan furniture, waiters in tuxedos, it was a favorite place to rendezvous in for all high society. He had a newspaper opened in front of him just as you arrived. Somehow, he always seemed surprised to see you, even if this meeting had been organized.
“How long will you be in Moscow for?” You gave your coffee a quick stir. He opted for tea instead, which he paired with a slice of honey cake. Turns out, he had quite the sweet tooth as it was too much for you.
“Three months. Then I’ll be stationed in Tashkent,” He answered. The speed of your stirring waned to a stop, and he noticed that your stare on him turned thoughtful. You seemed as though you were about to say something, but you refrained. “What about you? Are you going back to Saint Petersburg in Spring?”
“Yes, but I can stay longer if I wanted,” You brought your cup up to your lips. In truth, you wanted to ask how long he’d be in Kazakhstan for, but you worried that your interest in him would’ve seemed too much. Not that it wasn’t an open secret to you both at this point. “I don’t have anybody waiting for me there.”
That day, you two got to know each other beyond the ballroom, talking about your lives, families, and goals. It was like playing catch up after your night together, and it was weirdly grounding. He wasn’t a mysterious Prince Charming who swept you off your feet anymore, but something even better. He was real, every last bit of his sensitive character and wit.
“Do you not want to be married?” He asked.
“Not to the wrong person. It’s the one thing I have to do right, so I don’t want it to be the regret of my life.”
“I understand. Finding the right person is easier said than done — people can like you, but it’s not love.”
“I’m listening,” You hummed.
“That’s what makes it so valuable,” Ivan continued. Something glinted in his eyes like he had just come alive, as if he’d been waiting to say this for a while. “Because when you have it, you’ll have everything.”
You rested your face on the palm of your hand, staring at him across the table with intrigue.
“That person will see you for everything that you are and accept you for things you can’t accept yourself. Then, you become whole because of it,” He briefly broke his eye contact as he picked up his tea, but remade it as he said this. “Letting them love you is how you acknowledge that and forgive yourself.”
“That was really good, Ivan.” You muttered, frowning. He was so eloquent, his words untangled some part of yourself you didn’t know was tangled. Now that you thought about it, he’d always had this effect on you. The things he’d say, the way he received you. The world just made sense when you were with him.
He was so intelligent and sensitive, it drew you in like a moth to a flame. But it also put everything into perspective. He was a person everyone decided to ostracize, and you were so close to being just like the rest. You almost didn’t deserve him because of it, but you could forgive yourself if you did one simple thing.
Not letting him slip away.
“You think so?”
“Yes, I understood that perfectly. I couldn’t have said it better myself,” You nodded, watching him light up at being so well-received. It was too bad what you’d add to this conversation wasn’t half as deep, but you liked a good laugh. “But hey, can I tell you a secret?”
“Of course.”
“It’s about you, though.”
“How can you tell me a secret about me?”
“Well, it involves you, but it’s not necessarily true,” Your smile at him was more coy than he would’ve liked, so what was it about him that was so amusing? “It’s what everyone has been saying about you.”
“And?” He raised a brow.
“Everybody thinks you’re gay.”
His eyes widened until the whites of them were practically glaring, but he didn’t appear disgusted in the least. He couldn’t recall doing anything that could give anybody that impression, unless he did.
“Why?” He shook his head, positively dumbfounded.
“Maybe it was because you seemed too reserved.”
“Well, you didn’t believe that, did you?”
“Of course not!”
“I’m glad, but what am I supposed to do with that information? I can’t exactly prove to them what I am.” Ivan smiled weirdly, and he kept his composure rather calm. Most people would’ve recoiled or panicked at the thought of being regarded as such.
But it was so in-character for him to not mind.
“Well, of course you can,” You laughed, your smile softening at this. Turns out, your point wasn’t so much to tease him as it was to flirt with him, and he walked right into it. “Just spend more time with me.”
His cheeks turned rosy as his heart sped up for a brief moment. And against all odds, he didn’t feel the urge to shy away from you. It spoke volumes for who he was, solitary and avoidant, even if the only thing he ever wanted was someone to see him. It was a paradoxical way to live, though life was full of them.
But something about you made him unafraid to chase you, even if it was at a calm, walking pace.
A few days later, you found yourself strolling beside him next to a frozen lake. Ivan had his arms folded behind his back while he indulged you in another pleasant conversation. He had so much to say, but he made every moment worth your while. It seemed as though he just needed someone to listen to him.
And you were more than happy to be that someone.
“My mother used to call me Sasha,” He told you.
“Oh?” It was a beautiful name, but the only thing that crossed your mind was how well it suited him.
“Defender of mankind,” He gave you his gloved hand to take as you came across uneven terrain. But even after it passed, you never let go, and he didn’t mind it one bit. “She would remind me of that every time I got bullied as a child. She said they only did nasty things to me because they were jealous of me.”
“Such as?”
“I don’t want to say.” He chuckled sheepishly.
“Children can be cruel sometimes.” You nodded.
“I don’t think children are that aware of themselves, but I suppose it was because I was different.”
“Why would you say that?”
“There must be a reason why they did what they did.”
“People don’t need a reason to be the way they are. They just don’t know how to be anything else,” You disagreed, feeling his stare on you as you gazed to the side. “Which is a shame because I never would’ve spoken to you if you hadn’t spoken to me first.”
“Oh?”
“I never would’ve met you if you didn’t take the risk,” You smiled back at him. “So don’t ever change, Ivan.”
All of this came so naturally to you, but your words meant more to him than you would ever know. Nobody had ever said that to him. To never change. His whole life, he thought he had to be someone else, but it was really the world that wasn’t right for him. You liked him for who he was, so for the first time in a while, he could breathe. And he didn’t hold back.
As the months went by, you started spending every waking moment with him. Winter wasn’t as cold and bleak as it used to be, having found a warmth in your close friendship with him. You would even go horse riding with him in the vast countryside. As he chased you through the serene, white landscape, the hooves of your horses pounded rhythmically against the ice.
You turned back to watch him riding steadily behind. Ivan gave Russia a beauty you never knew it had, and it reflected on him inside and out. His kindness knew no bounds, even for those who could never repay him. He would play with children on the streets, then crouch down to give them candy. And above all else, he loved you exactly the way you needed him to.
You were at his home, sitting across him on the ledge of a window. Just like he said, he had sunflowers at almost every one, giving the golden light that poured in a new meaning. But you made everything look so much more vibrant, giving his place a new life just by being here. He’d had people over before, but it was the first time that he didn’t feel lonely at home.
“How do you like your caviar?” He had a slice of bread in one hand and a knife in the other.
“Just make it how you usually would.”
“Alright,” Ivan spread a thick layer of butter over it before scooping some caviar and plopping it on top. Then, he handed it to you, which you ate in slow, experimental chews. He watched you intently for a reaction, and it was like nothing he expected.
“I don’t actually like caviar, but I just wanted to try it the way you do,” You admitted, finishing the slice of bread as you spoke. The man made a face as if to say come again, but you had already moved on to the next best thing. “Oh, that reminds me. What did you think of the tea cakes I got for you the other day?”
“I ate it all, actually.” He murmured under his breath.
“What?” You asked, not hearing what he said.
“I ate it all.” He repeated louder this time.
“But that was only a few days ago,” You said without thinking, surprised that he managed to finish the box in such a short period. He glanced to the side with his lips pursed, embarrassed that you found out, but then again, he never could lie to you. “But no matter. I’m glad you liked them since I made them myself.”
“You did?” Ivan glanced back to you, and when he saw how proudly you grinned at him, his shame had all but diffused into wonder. “They were really good, (F/N). I didn’t know you could bake so well.”
You didn’t know what came over you, but his fixation on sweets was so endearing, you did something so out of the blue that even you were surprised by your lack of inhibition. You leaned forward and lifted his blouse, revealing his belly and happy trail. He was slightly pudgy, and it was made worse by him leaning over. But the mindless decision on your part ended up eliciting a bigger response than you anticipated.
“Why did you do that?” His eyes flew open as he pulled his blouse down to hide his stomach.
“I don’t know. I wanted to see what you looked like,” You recoiled a little, “But I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have.”
“Well, don’t do it again,” Ivan pinched your cheek, his expression slightly displeased. But somehow, he was a little glad that you felt this comfortable with him. What more was that you didn’t seem put off by what you saw, apparent in the expectant look you gave him. “You don’t find it unattractive that I’m fat?”
“What makes you think you’re fat?” You frowned.
“Well, there’s this,” He murmured.
“This is nothing, Ivan. Besides, I think it looks good on you,” You watched him furrow his brows for a skeptical look, which only seemed to encourage you. “But if we’re really talking, you could do your business in front of me and I would still like you.”
“No way,” He chuckled deeply.
“I’ll even follow you into the bathroom because you always take too long,” You said, smile growing.
“Okay, okay,” Ivan muttered defeatedly, not wanting to hear any more about his bathroom habits and your apparent willingness to watch them all unfold. At this point, his face had darkened past what he thought to be humanly possible. Did you like him that much? “Now if I said the same thing, you wouldn’t like it.”
“That’s because you’re a man,” You got off the ledge.
“Oh?” He wore an amused expression as he trailed behind you like a giant shadow. Despite being such a large person, he walked so quietly it was as though he wasn’t walking at all. It was only until you closed the door on him that you even realized he was there.
“I need to go to the bathroom! Don’t follow me.” You exclaimed, frankly dumbfounded that he got this far.
“Is that why you’ve been talking about me like that?”The door shut in his face, so he wandered off to wait for you. When you came out of the bathroom, he’d been sitting on a chair down the hallway. Once you were looming over him, he stood up to acknowledge you properly. “Let me show you to your room.”
You didn’t say anything, staying quiet as he took your hand and lead you to the bedroom he had prepared for you. It was so considerate of him, but you weren’t satisfied with his response. Were you being entitled, or did everything just fall flat like it meant nothing? You tried to hide it as best as you could, not wanting to ruin such a tender moment between you two.
But he was too observant to miss it.
“You don’t look happy,” Ivan softened his gaze as he put his hands on your waist, holding you steady. Little did he know, that only made your heart heavier. How could he treat you so lovingly, yet deny it so? Was he just being polite, where everything he ever did was out of friendship and nothing more?
“I don’t know why, but I thought we’d share.”
You couldn’t even look at him as you said it, having already decided his feelings for you were platonic.
Incredibly deep, but still, not deep enough.
“I’m sorry,” You muttered, turning to leave the room, feeling as though you just ruined everything. Before you could, Ivan reached out and grabbed your hand, stopping you from taking another step. When you faced him, he had a deep frown and an intense look in his eyes like everything was about to bubble over.
To him, the question that had been on his mind was answered so unabashedly, even he couldn’t deny the implications anymore. You liked him so much, you hoped that he would take the initiative to let you in his bed. It was so forward, yet you communicated it in such a shy manner, you were endearing for it.
You wanted him, and not out of mindless passion.
Everyone else looked through him, but you looked at and into him. You met him where he needed you to, being so playful and open, yet so attentive and considerate. For that, he had nothing against letting you into his world, and he let himself go in every way he could let go because he trusted you to catch him.
Ivan took your face and leaned in with his lips.
But he was still careful, moving ever so slowly as he watched you for every subtle change to your body language and expression. You didn’t pull away in the slightest, staring back at him with an alluring look. Once his nose brushed against yours, you closed the gap with a long-awaited kiss. He responded with just as much urgency, having been granted permission to finally love you the way he was always intended to.
You hung off his neck as your mouths met again and again in soft pecks, but they eventually deepened into kisses that were so long, you couldn’t breathe.
It felt so good to finally have him. To surrender at the same time, giving in to the unspoken connection that had made it unbearable to be away from each other. For that, your patience for each other was rewarded with the most heartfelt intimacy yet. You and Ivan kept kissing, not caring for the taste of food in each other’s mouths. He was salty like the sea, but it was still him. Slowly, you were starting to like caviar.
You saw him off at the train station before he left for Tashkent. And he almost looked too good for you to let him go, but you had to. Ivan was dressed in his white cavalry uniform as he stood on the platform, cap in hand, and when you spotted him, you ran up to him as fast as you could. He stretched his arms to catch you just in time, lifting you over his head with absolutely no effort. Ivan had always been big and strong like a bear, but feeling it was something else.
You held onto his face and kissed him as hard as any woman would before their lover was sent off to the battlefield. He reciprocated with just as much urgent passion, moving his head fervently against yours. Your lips met again and again, eliciting soft and wet sounds. You ended the amorous exchange by sucking on his tongue, but it was hardly vulgar as it was playful. He laughed breathily and smiled up at you like a dream, intoxicated by your affection.
“You came to see me, mishka?” He spoke lowly.
“Of course I did,” You let out, kissing him again until you somehow got it through his head that you loved him, however dizzy it was. The second time round was even longer than the first, so it was a miracle how he was still standing. “Write to me everyday.”
“I promise,” He whispered, chest heaving.
You bit his neck as hard as you could without making him bleed, because kissing him a third time wasn’t enough. His face scrunched up from the pain, and while his body didn’t enjoy it, his heart was in the right place. It ached with satisfaction, but it couldn’t be explained by the physical. It came from a carnal instinct deep within, and what awakened inside him would stay with him throughout his entire posting.
“I miss you already, Sasha.” You whispered back.
“I’ll be back soon. I know nothing will happen to me because you’ll always be with me,” Ivan pressed his forehead to yours gingerly, closing his eyes as he spoke. It was the mindset of all soldiers, the feeling of invincibility simply because someone loved them. But how many would still perish, despite that fact? He carried this inside him like a stone; knowing his own mortality made him restless with longing.
In the months he spent away from you, you were all he could think about. As he sat around the campfire with his comrades, he let the dark of the night get to him. It was pitch black for miles around, so he stared into the flames, letting them burn his vision away just to get a semblance of what it felt like to be around you. Light, warm, and nourishing, a sign that he’d live to see another day. He knew he loved you, even if that love was playful, exciting, and even childlike.
For you, Ivan freed up so much space within himself that you would never feel trapped again. If the world was ever too small, it never was inside him, and in there, you slowly blossomed like a flower. He would then carry you inside him everywhere he went, so it was like having a piece of Spring even in the coldest blizzards. But the greatest one had yet to pass. What used to be so pure was burning into something so passionate, it rivaled that of his first dance with you.
Only this time, it wasn’t just physical attraction.
He wanted all of you, body and soul.
But somehow, that felt like a crime. You were his little bear, and he was your first for everything. Was it too soon to want you this way, or were you ready to give him everything? When he saw you again, it was easy to make a poor judgement. Your minds were tired but your hearts were not, and after the separation, there was nothing to inhibit your deep-seated restlessness for each other. While you sat over him, half-dressed in your underwear, you kissed him until his lips were bruised. But he didn’t mind the pain. Everything you could ever inflict on him translated to pure ecstasy.
“Can I make love to you?” He gazed expectantly up at you, breaking the already fervid silence.
“But this is my first time.” You flushed, caught off guard by how plainly he asked for it. But perhaps, this was what it was to have intimate relations with a man. You and Ivan were headed toward this outcome, which would surely unfold sooner or later.
“Do you trust me?” He held onto your fingertips delicately as if to give you the option to pull away.
He was doing the same thing he did the first time he met you, lingering on your boundaries until you gave him the permission to go further. As alluring as it had been, really doing it was far more intimidating than you thought. There would be no going back from this, and you weren’t sure if you were ready for it.
“Yes, but I’m scared.” You whispered in a hush.
“Of the pain?” He asked just as faintly.
“Of losing you.” You said even quieter.
“But you’ll always have me.” He smiled in the dark.
The next few minutes went by in a haze.
He carried you to his bed and laid you down as gently as he would laying someone down to rest. Then, he got on top of you. While you laid under him, he pulled his shirt over his head. After which, he slowly lowered back down to you, his silhouette becoming one with yours. His bare skin was flush against yours, the first of many sensations you would feel from his body.
Ivan was going to take you tonight, and you couldn’t bring yourself to process it. Some part of you wanted it to happen, another didn’t. Because as much as you loved being intimate with him, you loved everything more. The mindful conversations, even the mindless ones too. It was the purity of your interactions with him that made everything so perfect, but sex?
Having sex with Ivan scared you more than anything.
He was the only man you could ever give yourself to, and you trusted him more than anything, so why did you feel this way? Maybe it was still too early. Ivan hadn’t made himself clear enough to you, because deep inside, you still feared that he wouldn’t lay down his life for you. But if he was doing this with you, that had to be his intentions, wouldn’t it?
Or were you just being naïve?
Whatever it was, the one thing you knew was how much you didn’t want to hurt him. So you let him put his hands all over you, your breasts, your thighs, and everything in between. Ivan worshipped every inch of your body, caressing you until you were dripping wet and feening for him. Seeing the massive tent in his underwear didn’t help, as it forced you to cross your legs to hide how much you wanted him inside you.
“What’s wrong, mishka?” He breathed.
“I don’t know about this, Ivan.” You whispered, eyes turning misty. “What if this changes everything?”
“What do you mean?” He reached out to caress your cheek, gaze softening for a tender look. You were feverishly hot, your skin almost scalding to touch, and not for the right reasons. Something had you on the verge of tears, he just never imagined it would be him. That would end up being his greatest hamartia, and this night was only just the beginning. “Tell me.”
“Will I still be your little bear?”
“Always,” He leaned down to kiss your forehead, and for a brief moment, you relaxed. But when his hands went to your underwear, discomfort crossed your face again. However, he missed it, set on making love to you as a cathartic moment in the relationship.
You would be bound to him forever, and him, to you.
Only you had a very different idea of binding to him. He took your underwear off, and that was the trigger. The first tear rolled from your eyes, and as you laid naked under him, you hid yourself behind your arms. In the end, no matter how much you thought you trusted him, you didn’t want him to see you like this.
And Ivan was devastated.
Not for being rejected, but for making you cry.
The shame in his eyes was as if he just killed a man, and his brows came together until it looked like he was in physical pain. Not only did he make you feel uncomfortable, he made you feel taken advantage of. He shouldn’t have tried convincing you the first time you said it, and now that he had, did you even see him the same anymore? Ivan highly doubted it.
“I’m sorry,” He muttered, climbing off you.
He stood next to the bed with his back turned to you as he gathered himself. He couldn’t bring himself to face you no matter what he told himself. The guilt he felt was so paralyzing, he couldn’t even move.
“Let’s stop this.”
You slept beside him all night, hoping that what just happened between you both could be a minor bump in the relationship. In the morning, you could work it out, and you trusted that he would come through for your sake. But when the sun rose and you came to, he had all but disappeared. You sat up and rubbed the haze from your eyes, scanning the room for him.
Then, you searched the rest of the house, wandering the empty halls half-dressed. He was nowhere to be found, and at the realization that you had just been abandoned, an emptiness welled in your chest.
Why did he go?
There wasn’t a trace of him except for a letter you found on his desk. When you read it, a whirlwind of emotions hit you. Confusion, sadness, then anger. Ivan apologized for what he’d done, then said that he would return to Tashkent to give you some space.
You hadn’t finished the entire message before you scrunched it up on reflex, throwing it to a random spot in the room. All of his intellectualizing meant nothing to you, because the only thing you took away from this was that he left. He just upped and left.
He never gave you the chance to forgive him, running off before he could gather the nerve to face you. If it weren’t for all that you had done with him last night, the kissing, the touching, and your nudity, you would feel pity for him. But he took something from you.
And rather than staying to make up for it, he just left. His stupidity just shattered your dignity as a woman, but not to the point it wasn’t salvageable. So you got dressed in the fastest, sloppiest way possible, hoping to somehow catch him before he fled Moscow.
You boarded the first train you saw, and you stormed through the carriages looking like Hell. There was only an astronomical chance that you would see him, and yet, you didn’t stop, pacing down the aisle until you would lay eyes on the reason for your woes.
Fate was kind to you that day, because you did end up finding him. When you saw Ivan sitting at one of the booths, you marched up to him, nostrils flaring. He was in a heavy brown coat, and atop his head was his gray ushanka. As he stared lazily into the white, snow-drenched landscape outside, wallowing in self pity, he failed to notice you until you were standing right over him. When he sensed you in his peripheral, he turned to you, and his eyes slowly widened.
What were you doing here?
Ivan was surprised to see you on his train departing Moscow, but even more by you looking for him after everything that happened. He was that out of touch with you, which only worsened your anger. Needless to say, he was overjoyed to see you, even if he never had a chance to relish it. Because what happened in the next second would shatter his train of thought.
Utterly and completely.
You slapped him across the face, and so hard that his hat fell off. Gasps went around the carriage as his head turned in direction of the slap. His eyes went as wide as he could get them, and he didn’t move out of shock. His face stayed angled to the side as he tried to process what you just did. Did you just slap him?
From the burning sting on his cheek, it was apparent that you did. A red hand mark slowly formed on his skin, but no matter how much it hurt, he couldn’t bring himself to anger. Now that he thought about it, he would still adore you with your hands around his neck. In his mind, anything you did to him was out of a fit of passion. And he wasn’t so far off the mark.
When he turned back to you, mouth agape like he was about to go off, your face had gone as white as a ghost. You were appalled by what you just did, and only now did you come to terms with it, which was after the fact. After you hit him. He reached out to you on instinct, but you darted out of there without a word. Ivan shot up on reflex and chased after you.
You raced down the stairs of the train to get back to the platform, feeling the snow crunch under your feet as you ran. Not that you even had a place in mind. You just had to get as far away as possible, fleeing the horror that was something done in the heat of the moment. You just hit Ivan. You couldn’t imagine how furious he was, but that only went to show how out of touch you were with him too.
He shot his arm out and grabbed your hand, yanking you into his chest. Then, he covered your entire body with his, holding you in such an embrace that would stop any and all movement on your end. Like a wild bear, he had you completely subdued in his grasp.
“How could you?” You squeezed him as hard as you could. “You were just gonna leave without telling me?
“I thought you wouldn’t want to see me.” Ivan sighed.
“Why would I not want to see you?” You exclaimed, pulling back to put your scorching gaze on him as you fought back angry tears. He stood over you in silence, expression wrought with shame as you tore him to shreds. There was nothing he could say to earn your forgiveness, because there was nothing that could justify what he did. “After everything that happened, that was what you thought of me?”
He had done this out of his own cowardice, and you suffered the brunt of the consequences.
“You made me feel so cheap!” You cried, slamming your fists against his chest. Not that he even budged when he was that much stronger than you, so you shoved him instead. And he let you, coming back every time to wipe away your tears. “But you were too busy feeling sorry for yourself to even know that.”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to,” He winced, holding your face in his hands as he kissed you over and over.
But even that wasn’t enough.
“If we fight, stay with me. If I run, chase after me. Don’t just sit back and let it happen,” You wiped your tears as they kept coming, but you couldn’t stop the hurt that came pouring from your mouth. The dam had broken, and with the most heart-wrenching look on your face, you sobbed, “Do you even love me?”
He went beet red, and his eyes burned with all the hatred he harbored for himself. It was his ugliest look yet, coming face-to-face with just how worthless he made you feel. It was only a fraction of what he felt himself, but knowing this was all his doing made him cave like never before. He pulled you into a hug so tight, it was as though he was clinging to life itself.
“I love you more than anything,” He uttered shakily into your hair. “I love you more than life itself. You are the reason I get up in the morning everyday. Without you, living would feel the same to me as being dead.”
“Then prove it. Don’t let me doubt you for a second, or else I’ll keep living in my head.” You squeezed him.
Ivan stayed in Moscow that night. And you were back in his bedroom, continuing what was left off from yesterday. Only this time, there was a sense of clarity and serenity between you both that was comparable to reaching nirvana. All that could be said had been spoken, leaving no room for misunderstanding.
“You’re so clumsy, Ivan.” You spoke gently over him, eyes still red from all the crying. While you sat on his lap, he rubbed his face on your bosom. He was sitting cross-legged on the bed, and he had his strong arms coiled around you with no intention of letting you go. “Why is it when we’re dancing, you’re so graceful, but with everything else, you’re so clueless?”
“That’s because it’s all I know,” He kept his eyes shut as brushed his lips delicately across your skin.
“Then treat me like how you would dance with me.” You spoke with so much conviction, it wouldn’t have sounded as suggestive as it was really meant to be.
Ivan opened his eyes as his heart began to pound in his chest. If he didn’t know any better, he wouldn’t have understood what you meant. But he did, and always had since the day he met you. The unspoken passion between you both didn’t go unnoticed by him, and this was his chance to finally prove it to you.
You wanted him to take you.
And he wasn’t about to refuse you.
From now on, everything he would say to you would be spoken through his body as if you were dancing with him. His bedroom was now the ballroom, only there would be nobody watching you two.
He got off the bed, and without breaking eye contact, he began to strip, starting with his shirt.
You watched in a daze, admiring his body for all that it was. He was so big and strong, you could only imagine his size down there. And you were right for your concerns. When he undid his pants and pulled them down with his boxers, his dick bounced out. Ivan was still so massive at half-mast, he could put a horse to shame. But you weren’t intimidated at all.
If this was what it was to love him, you would soon rather split yourself in half than refuse to take him.
He laid down flat on the bed, the action causing his cock to rock to and fro. Rather than coming onto you, he let you come to him on your own will. You got on top of him so that his erection would be brushing against your stomach. Then, you lifted your shirt and pinned it with your chin, showing him your breasts with a coy smile. He chuckled lowly as his cock twitched, more than content to let you please him.
You were being so obedient, but you would snap him out of his indulgent stupor soon. You gave his dick a hard slap, and he let out a pained moan as it rocked from side to side like a buoy. Satisfied, you started pumping your hand up and down the length of it as a reward. His face contorted with pleasure, only it was so good, it looked like it hurt just as much as before.
“Oh… Oh…” He shut his eyes as you went even faster, writhing in bliss and agony. He began panting rapidly as he reached a hot and hard orgasm, but before he came, you stopped, leaving him on the edge of an explosive climax. He went red in the face from embarrassment as he recovered. “… Why did you…?”
“Because…” You trailed off as you adjusted yourself on top of him, spreading your legs and showing him your womanhood cutely. It was so erotic, Ivan had a visceral reaction. His eyes went round as his heart ached to penetrate you right then and there, but he somehow refrained. “I wanted you to do it inside me.”
He never backpedaled so fast.
A switch was flipped, excited by what you’d let him do to you, and he dove into the place between your legs. Ivan would eat you out until you lost your mind, flicking his tongue furiously against your clit, swirling circles on it, then tongue-fucking you until you came into his mouth. His hunger for you was more like starvation, picking you up by your thighs and lifting you over his head so you would have nowhere to go.
Nowhere but down to his mouth.
“Ivan, please-- ” You moaned, grabbing his head to stabilize yourself as he held you on his shoulders.
“Yes, mishka?” He dragged his tongue up and down your folds, then swirled it over your sensitive clit.
“--I don’t know what you’re trying to prove, but that’s enough. You’re driving me crazy, ah--” You cried.
Ivan was so good at oral, he had your legs shaking by then, but he still wasn’t stopping. This was only the appetizer, the first bit of foreplay he would give you before getting to the main course. And he made that apparent by laying you back down on the bed.
“Then I’ll keep going until you understand.”
Without breaking eye contact, he stuck two fingers into his mouth. His gaze was hotter on you than you could stomach, but you were such a mess, there was nothing you could do except let him take charge. After coating them with saliva, he inserted them into your entrance, sliding deeper into you than you were ready for. Your eyes flew open as he started fingering and hooking you, breath hitching to his thrusts.
“How does that feel?” He breathed.
You turned feverishly hot as he pleased you, and with your head thrown back, you thought to yourself how much more it would be to take him. If this was just his fingers, what about his —? Ivan didn’t give you a chance to imagine it because he was already on top of you in a missionary position. Placing your legs on either side of his body, he splayed you wide open.
Then, he aligned himself and penetrated you.
Ivan made a face of pain before he leaned down to kiss you. After which, he whispered sweet nothings into your ear, knowing how much he was for you. Tears ran down your cheeks as he rocked back and forth. It hurt so much, you couldn’t even make a noise to express it. But he was patient. He didn’t go any further than you’d let him, listening to your body.
“Slowly, slowly,” He whispered over you assuringly. As he moved his pelvis back and forth, he penetrated you to the same depth every time, but eventually, he got deeper as you accepted him. By then, most of the pain had subsided. He was just so big, the walls of your womanhood ached as he moved inside you. That ache then spread to your heart and mind.
But it ached so good, you couldn’t stop trembling.
You didn’t know what it was that made you tear up in pleasure. That it was Ivan who was inside you, or that he was so thick, he was filling you up until there was nothing left to fill. While his cock rubbed against your insides, it stretched you until your stomach bulged. And the sight was something else to behold, like you were trying to keep down all of his love in your body.
Being so much smaller than him, you almost couldn’t take him. But you would soon rather split yourself in half than refuse to try. And you made that apparent with the way you begged him wantonly, like you would die if he didn’t get to where you wanted him.
“Deeper, Ivan. Deeper,” You let out, tears falling from your hazy eyes as he rocked you back and forth.
You had completely lost control of yourself, but so would he. You wanted him so bad you were crying for him, and Ivan thought it was so cute, it drove him crazy. With a low, throaty moan, Ivan sunk himself all the way in, and without giving you any time to adjust, he started pounding you into the bed as hard as he could. The bed squeaked even faster and faster.
He was slapping his pelvis into you at a furious pace, and you were taking every inch of his massive cock every time. He even let out a few breathy utterances, praising you for how good you were being. He fucked you like this for a few more minutes, and when it wasn’t enough, he folded you in half like a pretzel to get even deeper. This was the position he stayed in until his first orgasm, loving how much he opened you up.
He splayed you apart until he was pushing both your knees into the mattress. You kept your eyes closed and head tilted away out of embarrassment, but he was infatuated with your shyness. After a few more strong thrusts, he snapped, eyes closed in pure bliss. Ivan smiled floatily as he came, shooting strong jets of cum into your core. While he ejaculated inside you, he stayed all the way in to let you feel his dick pulse.
And the satisfaction he felt made his mind go blank.
The only thing he knew was to go back to moving so he could ride out his orgasm. With his mouth agape, he rolled his hips into you in slow, fluid movements, pumping you full with his cum. He breathed heavily over you like a dog, brows twitching up and down in pleasure. When he finally finished, he laughed weakly as he basked in the aftermath of all the love-making.
Cumming inside you didn’t just feel like heaven.
Knowing the consequences and still doing it made it so hot, he couldn’t get off his high. It excited him to think what he was doing to you, something intimate but oh-so perverted. The fact that you let him do it only turned him on even more. So for the rest of the night, he couldn’t resist doing it again and again.
You and Ivan had sex for hours, rolling around the bed with your bodies connected like snakes in heat.
You’ve lost count of how many times you orgasmed, but he just couldn’t get enough. You never imagined how much of a sex fiend Ivan was, but turns out, you did all the right things to bring out this side of him. When you’d crawl away from him, he would pull you back to him in one quick movement. And when you tried stumbling to the bathroom, he yanked you back to keep fucking you. Ivan would then bend you over the desk and pound you doggy-style until he came.
When he pulled out, cum oozed from your hole.
You got so mad at him after that, you slapped him, but he couldn’t be affected by it anymore. He even liked it, because being hit by you felt no different to him than being kissed. So he simply turned back at you, chest still heaving from all the sex, and leaned in to kiss you. In that short moment before he put his mouth on yours, you saw that his nose was bleeding.
Your eyes widened with guilt, but it went away as he moved his lips fervently against yours. You hung off his neck as you kissed through his blood, tasting the iron that dripped into your mouth. Then, you were back to taking him like nothing happened. He would hold you against the wall standing, then roll his pelvis furiously into you. With the wall behind you, you had nowhere to go and was forced to take him. With his forehead flush against yours, he kept you in a dazed stare as he bounced you up and down on his cock.
His nose kept bleeding as he thrusted furiously into you, making for an erotic sight. Ivan just adored you so much, he wanted you even when you raised a hand at him. But he thought he deserved it. As he fanned his hot, labored breath over your mouth, he reached another hot orgasm, coming inside your womb. Your brows twitched in ecstasy as he kept rolling his hips, stimulating your clit from the inside, now dripping with cum. Either way, as push comes to shove, you would be making it up to him until morning.
When the sun came up, you and Ivan basked in the afterglow of your intense lovemaking. The soft sheets beneath you were damp from all kinds of body fluids, and he had dried blood over his mouth. You cleaned it carefully with a cloth dipped in some water, and after that, you two kissed, not minding each other’s morning’s breath. He couldn’t be any more satisfied with the developments, knowing you were finally his. He was now whole, having found his other half to forgive all that he lacked, and he would do the same.
“What do you want to do today?” You asked him as you lay on his chest, eyes still shut from exhaustion.
“I don’t know, I just want to lay in bed with you.”
“But that’s not productive.” You mumbled.
“Laying in bed with you is the most productive thing I could ever think of doing,” Ivan smiled tiredly under you, getting you to open your eyes to peer up at him in a shy look. “You are the activity, mishka.”
One week later, you were in a carriage on the way to a ball with him. And for the first time in a long time, you were excited to go. Ivan made balls enchanted again, simply because you would be dancing with him and nobody else. But you also knew his presence alone had that same effect. There were really people out there like him, and that made the world smaller — and righter — than you’ve always known it to be.
“You have to meet my cousin, Ivan. He’ll love you.”
“Of course,” He chuckled, having already heard of Gilbert and the role he played in introducing him to you, however incorrectly he had done it. It wasn’t in his nature to blame him, and he was more eager than anything to befriend your closest family member.
“Just don’t make him feel stupid, he hates that.”
“Why would I do that?”
“Just something about you, everything you do feels intelligent,” You flickered your eyes over him as he sat across you quietly. Ivan had always been so calm and mature, but still able to humor your playfulness in private. It was one of your favorite parts about him. You saw sides of him that nobody else would, and it made up the world you had with him. “He’s already mad at me for ditching him to go with you today.”
“I understand,” He nodded.
You sat across each other in a comfortable silence, but he kept staring at you. His gaze on you was so tender, but also dazed and absent like he was thinking of something else entirely to this moment.
“What?” You frowned, slightly put off by the intensity of his scrutiny, when really, you were more flustered than anything. It looked like he had something salacious on his mind, but this was Ivan you were talking about. Either way, you couldn’t stop yourself from going, “Want me to slap some sense into you?”
It had been a joke to diffuse the tension, but it only seemed to encourage the sincerity of his feelings.
“I want to be your husband.” He said it with such a serious tone of voice, you couldn’t even brush it off.
Your face contorted with shock, but you were slowly overwhelmed with so much emotion that you turned beet red. You were on the verge of tears, and not just from happiness. You were relieved to hear that Ivan was ready to lay his life down for you, as much as you trusted that he would. But did he really have to say that right before meeting so many people?
You had changed him so much with your love, giving him so much confidence that you could hardly deal with your own creation. But if you asked him, Ivan was just being as passionate as you told him to be. To treat you like he was dancing with you. So he did what he wanted to, even if it was more bold and brazen than how anyone else would’ve gone about it. How he would’ve gone about it if he hadn’t met you.
By the end of the month, he proposed to you.
With a diamond-encrusted ring on your finger, you’d write to him as he served in Tashkent for one last time. Because once he’d return, you two would marry and start a new life together. A few years would pass before there would be the three of you. Ivan would carry a small child in his arms while he walked the streets of Moscow with you, only the first of many he would have with you as a product of your love.

Brothers
3 - Back to the past
You were watching TV with Alfred on the couch when you heard someone knock on the door. It never would’ve occurred to you who this person really was--you just assumed it was a neighbour.
Alfred leaned forward to stand up, but you stopped him at the last second. “I’ll get it.”
He relaxed back into the couch, albeit with a sigh. When you stood up and walked off, he followed you with his gaze. You made your way into the hall, leaving his line of sight. But the closer he felt you were to the door, the faster his eyes seemed to dart around.
Unlocking it and swinging it open, you didn’t know if your heart just sank to the pit of your stomach, or leapt out of your chest when you saw who it was.
It was your ex-boyfriend.
Warm, tan skin, striking red eyes, and dark maroon hair--you could recognize that handsome face a mile away. Even when he looked slightly different to how you remembered, taller, older, more mature, there was no other man on this planet that looked the way he did.
But the years had been incredibly kind to him. He’d grown a great deal of muscle, and his features were sharper than when he was a teenager. He was a grown man now, but seeing him seemed to sweep you all the way back to your highschool days.
“Allen.” You let out, letting your hand slip off the door handle. You darted your wide eyes over his face, and he seemed just as shocked to see you. His mouth slowly fell agape, and he leaned back slightly.
“(F/N),” He uttered.
But before any of you could say another word, someone else sprinted at you at a terrifying speed.
“Amy! Oh my God--” You caught her in a hug. Squeezing each other as tight as you could, you both managed to let out a high-pitched squeal at the same time. “It’s so good to see you. I missed you so much!”
“Gah, I missed you too.” She grinned. “The people in California are so soft, it’s crazy.”
“So what’re you two doing here?” You released her, keeping your eyes fixed on her.
“You’ll have to ask Allen that.”
It was only then did you turn to him, and your smile faded as you did.
“Well, we, uh…” The man replied. Before he could give you a proper answer, he laughed breathily--awkwardly. His eyes were glassy, but he hid it with a growing smile. “I… I just can’t believe it’s you. How are you? How have you been?”
“I’ve been better,” You sighed, eyeing the floor. “I don’t think you’d know, but my store got shot up yesterday.”
Allen froze. That was right. Your store did get shot up. He knew that better than anybody. His chest tightened, and he began to feel this immense guilt crush him from the inside. But all he could give you was a wince. “I’m really sorry about your store.”
“It’s fine. It’s not like you did it.” You forced a smile.
“Yeah, well--” He took a deep breath before grinning tiredly. “I hope you’re okay. I know things didn’t end great between us, but I still care about you.”
“I’m okay. Thanks for the concern,” You muttered and turned away from him, much to his dismay. That bid for connection he threw out there was left hopelessly in the dark; you didn’t say it back. That you still cared about him. But he couldn’t show it. Giving his lips a tight purse lest he frowned, he reached up to the back of his neck to play it off somehow. “Alfred has been helping me out a lot. Even before… This happened, he helped me run the store. Now he’s letting me crash his place. So… Yeah. He’s been taking care of me.”
“Has he now?” Allen raised his brows.
And speak of the devil.
“Yeah, I have.” Alfred appeared in the hall, his eyes trained on him like he had a bone to pick with him. “So, what’re you doing here?”
His tone sounded a little off when he said it, as if he was trying to goad a particular answer from the other man.
“Uh, just taking care of some business.” Allen replied hesitantly.
“Great. So you can just take your old room and stay away from us,” Alfred said quickly.
Hold on.
“Wait, what?” The redhead’s face contorted.
“Uh, so I’m just gonna go wait by the car.” Amy pointed behind her. Taking a few steps backwards, she eventually turned around and scampered off.
“You heard me. You’re not here to rekindle old relationships, and I’m sure (F/N) isn’t interested either.” Alfred took your hand and pulled you away before either of you could protest. Allen was left gaping at him while you came to terms with the fact that you just got thrown into the mix.
“Alfred wait--” You let out, pulling at his hand. “You didn’t even let me talk to him!”
“Oh, so I’m Alfred now?” He quirked a brow. “And you don’t need to talk to him.”
He pulled you all the way up the stairs and to his room. Then came the bang of his door closing. Allen witnessed the whole exchange with a look of unease, but he couldn’t bring himself to intervene. What the Hell? Since when was Alfred so controlling? He didn’t think he’d ever seen act that way, but to be fair, he probably would’ve beat the daylights out of him if he tried to treat you that way.
But that was then. This was now.
You weren’t his girlfriend anymore, and Alfred seemed to have sank his latches into you in his absence.
That only begged the question, though. You two couldn’t possibly be a couple, right? Judging from how bold he was, it wasn’t completely off the table. He furrowed his brows, turning that thought over and over in his mind. It made his heart race the longer he considered it--his brother, and someone he used to consider his best friend, dating his ex-girlfriend.
If that really were the case, he was no longer his brother--let alone his friend.
That was when Allen heard a door creak open upstairs, followed by the rapid footsteps of someone descending the stairs. Alfred was coming back down, and he didn’t even have to think twice to do what he did next.
He moved in front of the stairs, waiting for him at the bottom.
“You two stay in the same room?” He frowned.
“It was either that, the couch, or your room.” Alfred replied as-a-matter-of-factly, brushing past him.
“Right,” Allen narrowed his eyes on him as he walked back to the living room. “You two stay in the same bed though?”
“Sure.”
“What do you mean, sure?”
Alfred stopped in his tracks. He could admit that he’d been rude to him, and he almost regretted it. But any semblance of that so-called regret seemed to dissipate after these series of questions. Who did he think he was? Waltzing back into your life happened to be a privilege, not a right. And if Allen thought he could throw his weight around here, he was dead wrong.
“I don’t think you’re in a position to care,” He turned around so slowly, it was tantalizing. Then, he narrowed his eyes into a slight glare. “If we decide to sleep together, that’s none of your business.”
Allen hated how he worded that. In the context of this conversation, he knew Alfred just meant sleeping together in the literal sense. But he just made it sound like he was having sex with you. And judging from the obvious resentment he felt toward him, he wouldn’t put it past him to actually do it--love you, fuck you, and everything he used to do with you.
He was dead to him, but going after you? That was going one step too far. It was right then and there did it so conveniently occur to him that it wasn’t really just sleeping Alfred referred to as being none of his business.
“What the fuck, man? I leave town and you go after my girl?” Allen glared, a vein popping around his neck.
“She’s not your girl anymore, asshole,” Alfred shot back, not at all phased by his anger. In fact, it only seemed to add more fuel to his. Walking up to him until he was right in his face, his eyes darkened. “You left her, remember? You left us. In Detroit. And we’ve been taking care of each other ever since. What do you have to say to that?”
But Allen had nothing. All he could do was grit his teeth.
“That’s what I thought,” Alfred scoffed, turning away to return to the couch. But he couldn’t bring himself to take another step before he said this. With his back facing Allen, he glared at him over his shoulder. “If she still loves you, fine. But don’t think for a second that you deserve her.”
Everyone seemed to disperse after that. Allen went to his room, and Amy went to the neighborhood ice rink. She told him that she’d come back once the pots and pans stopped flying around. Very funny, Alfred thought. But a mere ten minutes later, footsteps thudded down the stairs again. It couldn’t have been Allen’s, considering his slower and much heavier gait.
That applied to the rest of his brothers, so that meant it could’ve only been one person.
“What was that?”
Alfred closed his eyes and sighed. He’d been so sure of himself a moment ago, but hearing your voice was like taking a bat and swinging at his resolve. “We were just talking,” He said without getting off the couch, nor looking away from the TV.
And it only seemed to irk you more.
“And you had to pull me away for it?” You folded your arms, raising your brows.
“I thought that would be the best for all of us.” He murmured, still staring at the screen.
“You don’t get to decide what’s best for me. I’m a grown woman.” You marched over to the coffee table, picked up the remote, and shut the TV off. It was only then did he face you, but with another sigh. He didn’t think you’d go so far as to do that, but you were angrier than he thought—not that your cold glare didn’t make that clear enough. “I think I have enough self-respect to not jump at the opportunity to reconnect with someone I shouldn’t be reconnecting with.”
And you couldn’t have been more right. And there was nothing that could possibly justify what he’d done except pure jealousy. But he couldn’t be caught dead revealing that fact.
So he decided that he’d apologize—only you never gave him the chance.
“If you do that again, we’re no longer friends.”
Alfred widened his eyes.
You’ve never said anything like that to him before. When you walked off, he watched you leave with a tightness in his chest that was alien to him. He’d never faced this kind of scorn from you, this complete and utter readiness to dump him. And over what? Pulling you away from someone he thought you hated?
Or was he wrong?
Dinner eventually came rolling around, and it was certainly a meal to remember.
The dining room hadn’t been this full since high school. With all four brothers present, plus you and Amy, there was never a dull moment. Just not in the way the expression implied. Because after the first few niceties and catch ups, the buzz of conversation plunged into a complete and utter silence—save for the clinking of cutlery, chewing, and smacking of lips.
Even Gilbert shut up.
But that didn’t mean nobody was talking, per se.
Allen wouldn’t stop looking at you in between chews. While he did, there was this tiredness in his eyes that made him look depressed, but in a way like he was used to it. Alfred, on the other hand, didn’t even touch his food. He just stared at you, his eyes round and nostrils flaring. His lips were also tightly pursed--it just looked like he was about to explode.
Meanwhile, you’ve never been so uncomfortable in your life.
Your chest tightened as you felt yourself crumble under their scrutiny. The only thing keeping you together was the quiet, and not looking back at them. So you kept yourself fixed on your plate, even if you just poked and prodded at your potatoes.
“I can’t watch this.” Amy whispered under her breath, her body and eyes completely still.
“Yeah.” Matt cleared his throat.
Gilbert glanced around the table with a look of unease. He’d never seen the group this tense before. He must have missed the memo, because he couldn’t understand why people were so quiet when they should’ve been rejoicing at seeing two old faces.
Whatever it was, it wouldn’t hurt to start the conversation again, right?
“So, um, how’s the food everybody?” He piped up through a nervous smile.
“Now’s not the time to talk about food,” Alfred replied, keeping his unwavering gaze on you. What he said must’ve struck a chord, because your breathing just got faster, all until he could see your chest rising and falling heavily.
“It’s dinner.” Matt forked a broccoli into his mouth.
“Yeah. What’s a better time to talk about dinner than at dinner?” The albino grinned wrly.
“I’ve got other things to worry about. Just be quiet, will you Gil? Read the room for Chrissake.” Alfred shot the man a heated look, getting them to shrink into their neck.
Right then and there, the last thread keeping you together seemed to snap.
“I’m full.” You stood up, scraping your chair back.
Everyone stopped and gawked at you, while Allen just sighed and looked back down at his plate.
“What?” Alfred’s face contorted.
“I’ll see you guys later. Matt, thank you for the food.” You smiled curtly at the man, who just nodded. Then, without picking up your plate, you tried to leave the room in a brisk walk.
“Come on,” Alfred stood up, scraping his chair back. His eyes were closed for a wince, the first time you’ve ever seen him make the expression. It used to be Allen making this face, but oh, how the times have changed. “You can’t still be mad at me.”
“Lord have mercy.” Amy closed her eyes.
“That’s not up to you to decide,” You muttered faintly, making quick strides out of the room.
“(F/N), please.” Alfred followed you just as quickly. Being that much taller than you, it didn’t take long for him to catch up. You two were in the living room when he grabbed your hand, bringing you to an abrupt halt. But he didn’t pull you toward him, and only just held you there. “I don’t wanna fight with you.”
“I don’t either.” You whispered, not turning to look at him. He would’ve asked why, but he heard the way your voice shook. You were crying. And just the sound of it was enough to cut through every shred of ego he had. His eyes went round, and he slowly released his grip until your hand slipped from his. You reached up to your eyes with both hands, and there, you did your best to wipe your tears--but to no avail. They kept streaming down as you uttered these words, “Why does it have to be today of all days that Allen had to come back? Have I not been punished enough?”
And just when he thought he’d feel a pang of jealousy, he didn’t.
He felt his heart break for you instead, but it wasn’t until you said this did he get crushed.
“I feel like my whole life is falling apart.”
His face began to change, all until it looked like he was about to cry himself. His brows furrowed together so hard, wrinkles formed between them. But before he could shed a tear, he pulled you in for a tight hug. He wasn’t one to feel remorse easily, let alone for someone else. His brothers always called him a selfish, stuck-up bastard, and they weren’t wrong. But in that moment, he seemed to let go of his sense of self, utterly and completely.
“Don’t cry. We can figure this out together, okay?” He whispered, giving you another squeeze.
You and Alfred were inseparable that night.
You slept in his arms against his chest, and he had your head nestled under his chin. His shirt was long forgotten on a nearby chair, and you’d taken off your bottoms for comfort. You’ve never been this close to him before, but you couldn’t question it. Not anymore.
And maybe, this was where you two were headed all along.
But if it weren’t for the fact that you two were meant to be friends, you and Alfred probably would’ve been doing things you couldn’t say out loud. Only you had a feeling he wouldn’t mind. You didn’t think you would’ve minded it either. Not as much as you found comfort in it, anyhow.
Alfred made you feel safe, and the last wall you had with him was beginning to come down.
Meanwhile, Allen kept himself up for hours, replaying today over and over in his mind.
He’d fucked up your life. There was no doubt about it. He was probably the worst thing that happened to you, and the irony was that you were the complete opposite of that to him.
You were the best thing that happened to him.
And this was how he repaid you, by ruining you. As he laid in bed, a single tear rolled down the side of his face and into his pillow. He was the scum of the Earth. There was nobody that could be more pathetic, or stoop lower than him. And you? You were too good for him.
It was better off that you two weren’t together anymore.
So why couldn’t he fall asleep?
Why couldn’t he just let go?
Little did he know, seeing you again would set off the relapse of a lifetime. Drugs, alcohol, sex—everybody had a vice. But this was the kind that never loosened its grip around his neck.
And tonight, he’d kill himself over the thought of you lying next to a man.
Even if this man was his brother.
The next morning, half the household vacated the home to go to work. Usually, you would’ve too, but whether your store would ever open again was up for speculation. Even then, old habits died hard, and you ended up getting up around seven am anyway. You put on one of your old T-shirts, Alfred’s red flannel pants, and a fuzzy robe before getting started with a day of doing nothing in particular.
While you trotted downstairs, it never occurred to you that anybody else was awake.
Apart from you, it was only Allen and Amy left in the house. Having flown in from Los Angeles, which happened to run three hours behind Detroit, it was still 4 am for them. There was no reason for any one of them to be up so early.
And yet, when you walked into the kitchen, you were met with Allen’s back while he tried to figure out the coffee machine. Your heart stopped, and so did your whole body. You found yourself standing right behind him as he gave the thing a few slaps.
Eventually, it let out a loud whir, dispensing a fresh and steaming hot shot into his mug.
“Finally.” He sighed.
Once it stopped dispensing, he took his mug in one hand and reached for the milk frother with the other. Pouring some milk into his coffee, he gave it a few stirs before putting the cup up to his mouth. While he took a few gulps, he turned around to leave the kitchen.
That was when he laid eyes on you.
They flew open as he choked on his coffee, coughing the brown liquid back into his mug.

5 - The path of least resistance
Looking for the perpetrators was the easy part.
Lying to you wasn’t.
Just as the sun peaked over the city for a dim orange haze, he, Allen, and Matt swung by the bar opposite your store to question Donny, the owner. It was a stupid move, doing a shootout right in front of one of the only establishments that made a point to oppose gang activity. At least now, they had a lead. A silver Chevy Impala, which sped off just before their license plate could be caught.
But they had a friend down at the gas station with CCTV cameras that could’ve.
Allen offered to go there himself to ask for some footage. Alfred thought that made enough sense to not question him. He didn’t have work here, and you probably wouldn’t have given a damn what he was doing in the day. But him?
He had work, and so did Matt.
So he drove his brother and himself home straight after. He’d also have some major explaining to do if you noticed him missing from bed every other day before the sun even rose. He knew he couldn’t keep it up forever, but it had to do for now. The sooner he caught these bastards, the sooner you could be let off the hook for whatever reason they decided to target you.
He just hoped you were still asleep.
He could barely keep his eyes open as he steered, but he refused to slow down. It was already seven-thirty, which was later than he’d planned, but Donny slept in that morning. Once he pulled into the driveway, he shut off the engine, got out of the car and darted to the front door. He didn’t even bother closing the car door.
When Matt saw that he’d left it wide open, he shook his head slowly.
“You’re being ridiculous right now.” He muttered, getting out of the car and moving to the other side to close it.
Only Alfred never processed what he even said; he was too focused on getting the key into the keyhole to pay attention. Jamming it in, he gave it a hard twist before swinging the door open.
He stepped inside, then dashed upstairs as fast and quietly as he could. His heart was pounding by the time he got to his bedroom. He creaked the door open, and lo and behold, you were still there, sleeping soundly and wrapped up in his blankets.
He visibly relaxed and sighed. Crisis averted.
What more was that you looked so good in his shirt, in his bed, in his room. If he could forget about the circumstances for a second, you were all his right now.
Alfred didn’t even hesitate then.
He was so relieved to see you, he didn’t care how it looked in retrospect. He brisked over and leaned down, his mouth lowering to your forehead. He didn’t have the balls to do it to you while you were awake, and he’d probably never grow them. But before his lips could even get near your skin, he caught you staring tiredly at him, or more accurately put, caught him in the act.
His eyes went wide for a split second.
He pulled back immediately, but not fast enough to make it seem suspicious.
“Morning, sleepyhead. I’m off to work now, so don’t miss me too much.” He hummed.
“Maybe a little.” You muttered, opening your arms with a floaty smile. Alfred furrowed his brows and pursed his lips into a hard frown to hide how much he liked that. But it did nothing to hide how red he turned. You were so cute when you were sleepy.
He leaned down to embrace you, hiding his face in the crooked of your neck.
“Okay, sweetheart. I’ll see you soon.” He murmured in your ear.
“Okay.”
Alfred pulled away at that, but with great reluctance. When he straightened up, your eyes were already closed again. He lingered his gaze on you, frowning as the heat return to his cheeks. Ever since you started staying with him, sharing his bed, leaving for work had never been so hard.
If he didn't have a house to pay for, he would've just taken the day off and laid here with you. There was no telling what would happen then. Or was there? He saw the way you looked at him the other night. And he knew how he felt when he saw you cry like that. You needed him just as much as he needed you, so if he had even a single thought between his ears, he'd know that you two were one inconvenience away from turning to each other for comfort.
The comforting in question, involving things he wouldn't say out loud.
Alfred forced himself to leave his bedroom to stop thinking about it. Closing the door behind him with a soft click, he dug a hand through his hair as he made his way to the stairs. That was close. If he'd had left any later, he probably would've popped a small boner from where his mind was going.
He headed to the kitchen for a snack before leaving.
Matt was sitting at the table and sipping a cup of a tea when he got there. The man didn't spare him so little as a glance, but the atmosphere turned heavier nonetheless--heavy with his own guilt. And yet, he couldn't say he did anything wrong.
He opened the fridge and leaned over it, scanning the shelves for anything he wanted to eat.
“Did you tell her?” Matt asked, still not turning to look at him.
Alfred closed his eyes and sighed. So that was what this was all about. However, he wasn't in the mood to revisit this again. Not when he'd had such a good run. And he definitely wasn't going to ruin it for his bother who just wanted to take the moral high ground.
“It’s seven AM,” He muttered, pulling out some leftovers from last night’s dinner. “Get off my back.”
“I’m just saying. You wouldn’t have to rush around if she just knew,” Matt murmured, taking a drawn out sip of his tea. Alfred's eye twitched, but he kept eating, Seeing as though the man was in no mood to engage with him, he would hit him where it hurt. "You'd catch them a lot faster if you weren't sneaking around."
Alfred whipped his head to him, eyes wide and wounded. It did hurt. To even entertain that he wasn't doing enough, to think that he could put you on the line just to keep this a secret. It forced him to confront the question, was it you he was protecting, or was it himself?
And it made him feel terrible.
"Shut up," He murmured with a full-mouth, his words muffled by all the food he was chewing. But that did nothing to hide how upset he was. So he averted his gaze, now narrowed with contempt. "You think this is easy for me? What am I supposed to say to her without complicating things?"
"It's already complicated. But telling the truth now will make things easier in the long run. Trust me."
"That what? I got her ex-boyfriend back to Detroit and fucked things up for her so we could team up in some bullshit vigilante investigation?" He grumbled.
"So you were the one who called Allen," Matt raised his brows, but he didn't look surprised. Not by that fact, nor by him referring to this whole job as bullshit. "Do you think she'd be more hurt by you doing that to protect her, or by seeing Allen again for as long as this takes, and without ever finding out that he actually came back for her?"
"She doesn't like him like that anymore!" Alfred raised his voice, now caught between a laugh and a cry. But his outburst only seemed to get his brother thinking, and not in the way he would've wanted--Matt licked his bottom lip, darting his sharp eyes over his racing expression. "She doesn't care why he's here."
"And yet, you 'fucked things up' for her."
"You know what I mean," He huffed. "She shouldn't think about why he's here because it's not good for her."
"That's not up to you to decide," Matt glared. "Even if she did decide to get back with him, that's up to her. Not you."
"Fuck, Matt." Alfred hissed, eyes wide and burning. "I'm just trying to protect her!"
"No, you're just trying to keep her to yourself." His brother snapped, getting him to falter. His eyes were now wide for an entirely different reason--he was cornered. He had nowhere to run, no more theoreticals to fall back on. And with the way Matt looked at him, with so much fury, so much certainty, he knew he couldn't keep lying anymore. To him, and to himself. "You think you love her, but you're just being a selfish piece of shit right now. You don't care about what she wants. Because if she really wanted you, she'd pick you over Allen."
Alfred gritted his teeth and went so red, he could feel it.
"You're just afraid that if she found out Allen came back for her sake, she'd forgive him."
Allen managed to get access to the security footage without a hassle. Word spread fast about the shooting in the neighborhood, and he didn't need to elaborate before he was let into the back room. But now that he had his eyes fixed on the screen, waiting for the car to drive by, waiting for it to happen, he'd never been such a nervous wreck.
After what Donny said about the make and model of the car, he knew he was fucked.
He just had to see it for himself for him to believe it. That was when he saw it on the screen--a Chevy Impala speeding throught he street, and the occupants firing a hail of bullets on your store. He paled like he just witnessed his own death, and his mouth fell open in a look of horror.
The car belonged to one of Victor's boys.
He knew it. He knew it right from the start, and ever since Alfred called him. That it was Victor's boys who shot up your store, not a random group of thugs. What he'd feared ended up being real. He'd lived with this fear for as long as he could remember, and it'd finally caught up to him. His debts that had gone unsettled for so long were finally demanding their payment--and with interest.
He fucked you--he fucked up your life, almost getting you killed in the process.
He took off after that, bursting out of the back room while gritting his teeth. What had he done? He'd never burst into tears like this before, but it just happened. They streamed down his face as a sob wracked his body. What he'd been running from found him, found you, and he had nobody to blame but himself. What was he supposed to do now? Where could he go? What would he even say if his brothers saw him crying like this, knowing that he didn't have it in him to stop?
Allen cried so hard, he started taking quick, involuntary breaths.
While he did, he found himself pacing on the empty lot around the fuel pumps.
Alfred would be expecting information, likely about the car's escape route. That, he knew, but that wasn't even the limit of his knowledge. He knew exactly where the car went, where it was parked. At this point, it wasn't fixing this that he was scared of--he was prepared to offer himself in your place just to let you off the hook, even if it meant offering his life.
He was deathly afraid of Alfred finding out.
Of you finding out.
He could only imagine how you'd look at him when you learned that the only reason you lost everything and almost died was because of him. You'd hate him more than you already did, a fate worse than death. Worse than what Victor had in store for him.
But what choice did he have?
He had to protect you. He had to save you from his mistakes. And if it meant taking the fall, he would jump without a shred of hesitation. Besides, if something did happen to him, maybe you'd hate him a little less. As he came to this conclusion, he stopped crying. The change was so abrupt, from manic distress to total silence, one had to wonder if he'd lost it right then and there.
Ironically enough, things had never been clearer to him than they were now.
He knew what to do now. He would settle this debt, and he'd probably die. But you would be safe, and he wouldn't have to agonize over you not giving a fuck about him anymore.
There couldn't have been a better outcome.
Allen went home after that. He couldn't put it into words what came over him when he stepped inside the house. These emotions that came from knowing he was in his last moments. From knowing everything was about to end. He could finally put an end to his pain, and he'd never been so calm--even if he was no longer in his right mind.
He wasn't afraid of dying anymore.
The only thing he was afraid of, was not seeing you one last time before everything fell apart.
Allen headed upstairs. What was once something he wouldn't have even dared to consider, he did without a shred of hesitation. He ambled down the hall towards your door, his eyes half-lidded and expression unreadable. It was now or never.
He gave your door a few knocks before opening it.
He didn't even bother waiting for an answer.
You sat up from the bed to see who it was--had Alfred forgotten something? When you saw who it was, your eyes went wide, and your heart began to pound. What was Allen doing here? There was no reason for him to be here, except for the inappropriate ones, because everything involving him was inappropriate.
"Allen?" You pulled the blanket over your chest like you were exposed--even though you weren't. "What are you doing here?"
“What I should’ve done a long time ago,” He muttered, walking up to you. The closer he got, the more his expression changed, his gaze softening until it looked like he was about to cry. “I’m sorry. For everything. I’m sorry for leaving you all those years ago and never giving you a proper explanation. I was young, and stupid, and, and, I was scared. I made some bad decisions and got in with the wrong crowd. And I hate myself for it.”
You darted your eyes over him, your mouth falling agape. He’d caught you off guard by spilling his heart out to you. They were all the words you've wanted to hear, only he was a few years too late. You'd tried so hard to pick up the pieces of yourself after he left, and you managed to heal, even if only enough to be happy. You were actually happy without him, and you didn't have to worry about falling apart again now that he was gone for good.
But now that he was back, he could leave all over again.
And truth be told, you were afraid. Afraid that if he said the right things, that if he looked at you the right way, you’d actually forgive him. Then what? He would move back to Los Angeles where he made a life for himself, breaking your heart all over again.
You got out of bed with your gaze averted, and your face contorted with hurt.
“I appreciate you telling me these things," You muttered, wrapping your arms around yourself. "But Allen, it’s been too long.”
“I know, but just hear me out. Please.” He begged, moving so close to you that you expected him to take your arm or your shoulder--only he never did. He was respectful enough to not touch you, not that it made this any easier. His voice was breathy and marred with desperation, like he was on the verge of breaking down. “You don’t have to forgive me, and I don’t expect you to. But can you just forgive me for today?”
“What do you mean?” You uttered, looking back at him out of genuine confusion.
“Let’s put the past behind us and just talk. Even for just an hour. Then you’ll never have to see my face again,” Allen gave a strained grimace. It killed him just to say it, but he was out of options. "I’ll leave this house and book a room in a motel then fuck off forever."
It sounded so good in theory, not seeing him again.
All you had to do was catch up with him, but turns out, even that proved too big of an ask.
Because the truth was, he'd swept you off your feet the second you saw him again. You just refused to see it. But now that he was giving you an ultimatum, you just crumbled. Blood rushed up your face, and a sob got caught in the back of your throat.
"Why did you have to go?" You uttered, tears welling in your eyes. "I waited for you."
His eyes went wide, and he just lost it right then and there.
Allen pulled your face in for a kiss, moving his mouth furiously against yours, as if every hard brush, lick, and suckle would make up for all the time that he’d been away from you. But it wouldn’t. And yet, he kept trying, pressing his lips so hard against yours, it hurt.
But it still wasn’t enough.
Not until he’d crossed every last line with you.
Allen had sex with you for hours. The morning went by in a haze of kissing, touching, panting, and moaning. He was still feverish as he went downstairs, his cheeks flushed from the memory of it all. The way you cried for him, telling him how much you missed him as you took him all the way down to the hilt. You never said it, but the way you sucked him in was like you still loved him.
The feeling of your soft skin in his hands, the way you squeezed around his cock so hard that he just came instantly like a rocket.
He gritted his teeth and went red. He came so much the first time, it was embarrassing. He filled you up so good, it came spilling out onto his stomach. And how he moaned, his face contorted with so much pleasure, it looked like he was in pain. But he didn’t care back then. He just kept going and going. And in so many positions, he may as well have skipped the gym that day. And to think that he’d get pissed when people said that to him after doing anything remotely physical.
He pinned you down by your hands and pounded you into the bed, held you up and bounced you on his cock, then you’d get him back by riding him so hard, he’d throw his head back and tear up.
It was so good, he thought he’d died.
But you didn’t stop, not until you came and he was shooting blanks. It was so hot.
You were so hot.
His sweatpants tightened around his crotch. He glanced down. There was a huge tent in his pants, and he could see dick peeking through the gap in his hem.
Shit. He got hard again.
He adjusted himself as he arrived downstairs, moving his dick in his pants so it’d look a little less obvious. He arrived in the kitchen, finding a cup in the pantry before going to the sink to fill it up. While he did, he glanced mindlessly at the clock on the microwave. Damn. Had he been going at it with you for that long?
Not that it concerned him--he’d never been so satisfied with himself.
He wouldn’t have complained if he just dropped dead right then and there.
You didn’t hate him. It might’ve taken hours of you fucking him and milking him dry for him to come to that conclusion, but he was comfortable in it. And that was all that mattered to him. You didn’t even have to love him anymore. He could jump the gun and entertain it if he was feeling particularly confident, but he didn’t have to.
He was content with just that.
He headed back upstairs, holding a tall glass of water in one hand. He opened your door, letting himself in before closing it behind him with a soft click. You were still in his bed, your neck and shoulders covered with hickeys. He didn’t exactly get off scotch free either—even if he couldn’t see them, he knew he had hickeys and bites.
“I got your water,” Allen began, sauntering over.
“Thanks.” You smiled a little when he gave it to you.
“You okay?” He murmured, watching you drink the whole thing with his gaze softened.
“I don’t know,” You wiped your mouth and looked away from him. It had to be now and only now that it occurred to you what you’d done; you had sex with Allen. You actually caved and did it with your ex. But even then, you weren't ashamed of yourself. Conflicted? Yes. Concerned? Even more so. Because when all was said and done, one question remained.
What now?
How would you two go forward from here? Would you two get back together like nothing? That didn't sound right. But pushing him away forever didn't sound right either. So you breathed out a sigh, and mustered the courage to admit that you had no idea what to do with him--because you didn't. “I just… I just need to think things over.”
Allen was already prepared for everything you were about to say. Nothing that came out of your mouth could hurt him, not after what you had done for the last two hours. Your hesitation, you still wanting to keep a distance with him.
Because when all was said and done, you still cared about him in one way or another.
How you felt about him otherwise was none of his business. He couldn't force you to love him, no matter how much he wanted you to. He refused to. The only thing he could do now, was make this easier for you.
“I can give you space if you want.” He grinned tiredly.
“…”
“… Unless you wanna sleep with me tonight.”
You whipped your head to him, staring at him like he just spat on an altar. You went red, half out of anger, half out of embarrassment. No, you couldn’t sleep with him tonight. If you shared a bed with him, you’d only want to get closer, and that would only complicate things even further. And by complicate, you meant that he would push you toward a decision you weren't sure was entirely yours.
Because chances were, sharing a bed with him would end up the same way ‘talking’ to him just did.
It looked like he had the exact thought process, because he rubbed the back of his neck with a sheepish look.
“Actually, forget I said it. Probably not a good idea.”
“Yeah.” You forced a smile.
“Listen, I’m sorry.” He sighed.
“It’s not your fault.” You frowned, turning to the side.
“Yeah, but I came onto you.” Allen mumbled.
“And I let you.”
“But still, I’m sorry.”
“Listen,” It was your turn to sigh, facing him with a defeated look. You may not have known what to do with Allen now, but what you did know, was that you didn't want anybody to find out what you two did. It wasn't so much out of shame--it was more because you already knew what everybody would say. Once again, you'd just be letting other people determine your choices when they should've been up to you. Not him, not Matt, and definitely not Alfred. “I don’t want anybody to know we had sex.”
Allen thought he'd be hurt by that, but he understood the implications perfectly.
“We can keep it a secret if that would make you more comfortable.” He suggested.
“Please.” You smiled weakly.
“Alright, I promise.”
After finding Amy's foundation and concealer somewhere in her room, you took Allen to the bathroom to cover up his neck. Then, you would cover up your neck with your own makeup. However, you only managed to get halfway through doing him before he started getting hot and bothered. Turns out, being alone somewhere private, and standing so close to each other that your bodies brushed against each other at every movement, was more than sufficient to set him off.
Before you knew it, he had his mouth on yours again.
He cupped your face as he caught you in a hot, open-mouthed kiss. The taste of Allen's mouth was intoxicating; you didn't realize how much you missed it until you experienced it again. And now that he gave it to you so willingly, you couldn't resist him.
You wanted to push him away. Your hands were on his chest, and yet, you just couldn't.
He moved his lips against yours for a slow and deep kiss, making out with you against the door. It wasn't until he slipped his tongue into your mouth, and you felt him get hard on you did you realize the weight of what you two you were doing.
You pushed him off you, but only just enough to get his mouth off of yours.
“Allen.” You fumed. “How are we supposed to keep this a secret if we keep doing this?”
“My bad.” He murmured over you, his face flushed a deep red. Only he didn't seem embarrassed at all, and was only apologizing to ice things over with you. Not even when there was an obvious tent in his pants, something he'd gotten just from kissing you.
It was almost endearing how obedient he was despite being so turned on.
The work day couldn’t have ended any faster.
You never thought this would see the day, but you dreaded the moment Alfred would come home. Someone you called your best friend, someone you’d come to rely upon for just about everything in your life. You wouldn’t have dreamed of keeping anything from him, just as he wouldn’t have dreamed of keeping anything from you.
But this was the one thing you couldn’t let him find out about. Knowing him, he’d move mountains just to keep you away from Allen.
You and Allen agreed to be in separate rooms for the evening, which should’ve made this ordeal easier to deal with. But that could only get you so far. You two would have to be seen together eventually, like at dinner. You just hoped that he wouldn’t look at you funny.
Only your ex just couldn’t wait until then before being a problem.
“(F/N)?” Allen called for you from the bathroom.
“What?” You called back.
“I think some of my makeup rubbed off!”
“Okay, I’ll touch it up for you.” You got off the couch, about to scurry off into the hall where he was. It was still fine, then. You were still calm then. You could just fix up his make up without it being much of a hassle. But the timing couldn’t possibly have been worse, because that was when you heard a car pulling in on the driveway.
You whipped your head to the window, eyes wide and racing like a deer in the headlights. Lo and behold, it was the rest of the family, arriving home after a long day of everything that could’ve concerned them.
Alfred had come home from work, along with Matt, Gilbert, and Amy, who they picked up from a day in the city.
Chapter synopsis: Allen gets a call from an old friend, and what he tells him gets him to do what he thought he’d never consider. Go back to Detroit. 2 - Where have you been?
Allen was making breakfast when his phone rang.
He had a nice spread of eggs, cut-up fruit, and cereal on the kitchen island, his fingertips still wet with the water he used to wash his hands. He even had his glasses on, which he put on every morning for a light reading session while he ate. He used to use contacts, but he made the change a few years ago when he moved.
It was more comfortable, and he didn’t have anybody to impress.
Wiping his hands on the front of his black t-shirt, he picked out his phone from the front pocket of his sweatpants. He took a quick look at the number displayed on the screen. He didn’t recognize it, but he took it anyway--probably a business inquiry. Either way, his phone had been beeping incessantly for a while, so for whatever reason this person called, it must’ve been urgent.
And it was only 10AM, at that.
He pressed the accept button and held the device up to his ear.
“Custom clothing concepts, Allen speaking.”
“It’s me.”
It was only two words, and yet, he could recognize that voice anywhere.
His mouth fell agape, and he darted his eyes around for a bit.
“No way,” He furrowed his brows, turning his head quickly. “Alfred?”
“That’s right, asshole.”
Asshole, he called him. So he was still hung up on him leaving all those years ago. Not that he could blame him. His face fell, grinning nervously as he stayed on the phone. Because if that were the case, why could he have reached out after all these years? Because there was no way he called him just to catch up.
“I need your help.” Alfred breathed shakily into the phone.
He knew that sound. The unsteadiness of his voice, the faint chattering of his teeth. It was the sound of adrenaline, like he’d just witnessed something he shouldn’t have. That, or he was about to kill someone.
And he couldn’t have been closer to the truth.
“(F/N)’s store got shot up.”
Right when he processed those words, his ears began to ring and he just went white. Your store got shot up. It wasn’t unheard of in Detroit, and was almost common.
But this was no coincidence, let alone random.
As he convinced himself of that, he almost lurched over and vomited right then and there. This couldn’t be happening. And yet, it was. His worst nightmare was unfolding over the phone, with Alfred hashing over the details like a raving lunatic. And the more he spoke, the more his suspicions got confirmed.
By the time the call ended, he was so pale, it looked like he was about to pass out. When Amy finally came over to see what was going on, she saw the vacant look in his eyes--that thousand-yard stare she’d always heard about and never witnessed.
Until now.
“Woah.” Amy stopped, her face falling into a frown. “You look like shit.”
“I feel like shit,” Allen breathed, brushing past her to leave the kitchen. Whatever he was about to do next, he couldn’t let her in on more than what he’d given away. So he walked into the hallway--or more like, swayed.
Once he knew he was alone, he leaned against the wall with an arm folded over the top of his head. Did he feel sick because of what happened, what he’d done, or that he knew he’d already decided? To go back? If it was that last alternative, he was as guilty as the fuckers who shot up your store. He was a fugitive with a secret, and if he didn’t fix this now, he would be damned to Hell.
That was when Amy reappeared next to him, her arms crossed.
“You good?”
“I’m better than good,” Allen breathed, slowly turning his head to her.
Then, he narrowed his eyes for an intense expression.
“Pack your things.”
Alfred and his brothers had been kind enough to let you stay with them in the meantime. Living in a house with four bedrooms, there was certainly no shortage of space. Alfred didn’t hesitate to take you there, but first, he had to make a quick stop at your house so you could gather your things. And only the most neccessary things, considering you didn’t even feel safe there anymore.
Throwing it all in a duffle bag, you didn’t look back before running out the front door of your house and jumping back in his car. He sped off the second he heard the click of your seatbelt, jetting down the street and toward his.
Right after Alfred parked the car in his driveway, he whipped out his phone and shot you a quick look. “Just give me a minute.”
“Sure,” You nodded. It was a little odd that he would whisk himself away at a time like this, but you didn’t think much of it.
“Trunk is unlocked,” With that said, he opened the door and climbed out. He then began to punch away on his phone--texting someone, it looked like, and with his back turned to you. Before his face went out of view, however, you caught a brief glimpse of it.
His eyes were narrowed into a cold glare; he was furious.
Whatever it was, it likely had something to do with the events that conspired today. And knowing him, he was probably just trying to figure out what to do. So you let him do his thing, getting out of the car and making your way to the trunk.
Opening that, you hauled out your duffel bag.
Putting the strap over your shoulder, you turned to the porch and proceeded to the front door. Before you could even get close enough to knock, however, it creaked open, revealing a familiar face. An old friend, and he was looking at you like a puppy that got kicked.
To others, Matt would’ve appeared just a little under the weather. But you knew better. His lavender eyes watched you with a solemn, and dare you say, softer gaze. They didn’t have their usual sharpness like he had something smart to say.
“Hey,” Matt held the flyscreen open with one hand, then held out the other to take your bag.
You handed it to him, smiling weakly. Not quite the greeting you’d hoped for, but still an act of acknowledgement nonetheless.
He took your duffle by the strap, then turned around to take it inside the house. It wasn’t exactly light, nor small, but he made it look like it weighed nothing as he carried it with his hand.
“You’re not hurt, are you?” He asked, looking down at you.
“I’m fine, just a little shaken,” You murmured, averting your eyes for a strained expression.
“Had to be sure. Alfred doesn’t always tell me everything.” Matt murmured, and there wasn’t an ounce of mirth in his words. You didn’t question him, nor did you linger on the matter. You’d never say this to the others, but if there was one person who took charge around here, it was none other than Matt. “If you need anything, just let us know.”
Following him into the living room, your eyes went round when you saw Gilbert sitting on the couch.
“(F/N).” He shot up. His face was contorted with fear, and he somehow looked more distressed about this than you did. But he was, after all, the youngest out of all of you. “We heard about your store. I… I’m really sorry.”
“I’m just glad I get to stay here. Thanks for letting me crash.” You smiled assuringly.
“Of course! We’re not fucking monsters,” He grinned almost nervously, walking over. “What kinda friends would we be if we didn’t? We’ve got plenty of room.”
“Yeah, you can take my room. I can just take the couch.” Matt added.
“What? No way! I can’t do that,” You blurted at him.
“Yeah, you could just take Allen’s. It hasn’t been used in a while, so it’s probably cleaner.” Gilbert noted.
Matt raised a brow at him, but didn’t say anything.
However, it was too late--you grew tense all over, and you shrunk into yourself. It was only then did Matt open his mouth, but he didn’t manage a word before the front door opened.
Alfred walked in, tossing his carkeys into a dish. He seemed to have cooled down, his expression now more nonchalant than anything.
“Actually, I think I’ll stay with Alfred,” You decided on the spot.
“Huh?” His eyes flew open. “You wanna stay with me? Like, in my room, or…?”
“If that’s okay with you.” You smiled sheepishly.
“Pshh--sure!” Alfred lit up. Matt turned to the side and stifled an interjection coming up in his throat. He should’ve seen this coming, how his brother was neutral in your book. You were definitely not neutral in his, though. “I mean, why wouldn’t it be okay?”
“No reason,” You chuckled, “I’ll just put my stuff in there, then.”
With that said, you picked up your duffel bag Matt so kindly put on the coffee table and left the living room.
Your footsteps gradually faded as you went up the stairs, and the three brothers watched your feet all but disappear.
“Nice one.” Matt said.
“Shut up.” Alfred murmured.
Climbing up a flight of stairs, you didn’t even need to ask to know the layout of the house. You knew where Alfred’s room was. And you definitely knew where Allen’s was. You made sure to steer clear of it, even if the door was closed. As you walked briskly past the thing, you could see the nametag on it in the corner of your eyes with one missin ‘l’. Alen, it spelled.
It was so him.
Not that you let yourself linger on that.
Once you made it to Alfred’s bedroom, you felt yourself letting go of the breath you’d been holding. Setting down your bag at the foot of the bed, you put your hands on your hips to take it all in. The walls were painted space gray, just how he liked it, and the ceiling still had glow-in-the-dark stars stuck all over it from when he was a kid. They didn’t glow anymore, but it was still a cute touch.
His shelf was also spilling over the edges with all sorts of childhood paraphernalia. Toys he had when he was nine or younger. Books that taught him how to read. It would’ve been strange for a grown man to still have these things out on display, but not him.
Moments later, you heard footsteps in the hall.
Turning to the sound, you visibly relaxed when you saw who it was.
“How’s my girl?” Alfred raised his brows for a rosy grin.
He seemed a lot giddier than he was a moment ago. You didn’t know what he saw on his phone that got him so pissed, but you were glad to have him back. He came in and pulled you in for a big hug, and it felt like a breath of fresh air after interacting with his brothers. It wasn’t so much that you didn’t like them; you loved them.
You and Alfred just had something you couldn’t begin to describe.
He squeezed you hard, and you were pressed so tight against his body, you could feel the shape of his body through his clothes. The warmth of it. But it wasn’t as crude as it sounded. He’d always been a very physical person with you, and you never would’ve twisted his affection into anything it wasn’t. He was your best friend, and best bet that you’ve learnt to appreciate it.
“I’m okay. Thanks for letting me stay in your room, by the way,” You hummed, pressing a chaste kiss to his cheek.
You couldn’t see his face then, but his cheeks just tinted the slightest shade of pink.
“Who else was it gonna be?” Alfred quirked a brow, pulling away.
“Exactly,” You chuckled. That was when your expression softened, and you took a step back to wander about the room. He followed you with his gaze, watching you pick something up from his shelf. “I know it seems a little weird and all, but I hope you don’t mind.”
He almost frowned, but he gave you a strange smile at the last minute. “Why would it be weird?”
“I don’t know. Maybe because we’re adults.” You shrugged.
“Are you really gonna say that with my solar system poster on the wall right now?” He laughed out of his nose, getting you look down at your feet with a growing smile. “But it doesn’t matter how old we are. We’re always gonna be best friends.”
You glanced back up at him, your eyes creasing for a tender look. “Yeah.”
“So don’t be a stranger. I don’t know how many times I’ve told you that,” Alfred murmured that last part.
“When have I ever been a stranger?” You stifled a laugh. It was quite the accusation alright, treating him like anything less than the soulmate you’ve found him to be.
But he didn’t budge.
“I can’t think of anything right now, but I remember the feeling,” He explained, pausing for a moment before continuing. His brows came together for a cross between a frown and something else--his eyes burned into yours, but at the same time, held such a deep sadness you almost couldn’t recognize him. “Just don’t, okay?”
“Okay, I promise,” You uttered, your chest tight with a feeling you couldn’t explain.
“Good. Because I feel like there’d be a bit of cognitive dissonance here when we used to take baths together.” He said it all in one breath, turning his head to the side for a dismissive look.
Now that was the Alfred you recognized.
“When we were six!” You exclaimed.
“Doesn’t matter. Still happened.”
“You jackass.”
You decided to hang out with Gilbert shortly after. That gave him the chance to go downstairs for a snack, and he remembered there being quite a few leftover ingredients for some sandwiches. Trotting downstairs, he made his way into the kitchen. There wasn’t a dining room so to speak, because the dining table was placed right there--in the kitchen. Fortunately, it was spacey enough so it didn’t look out of place.
When he walked inside, he almost flinched when he saw Matt sitting at the dining table.
He really was like a ghost, having not made a single sound the whole time he came down here. But he was just sitting there, and with a cup of tea in front of him, not doing much of anything else. Was he really just here to have some tea, or had he been waiting for him?
Alfred didn’t want to know. He thought he was used to this, but honestly, Matt was starting to creep him out with how omniscient he really was. In the end, getting jabbed at here and there didn’t bother him so much compared to this--he could never get anything pass this guy, and he’d already arrived at that conclusion before they even said anything to each other.
In his last ditch attempt to sweep everything under the rug, he went straight for the fridge without acknowledging him.
“Did you call the cops?” Matt questioned, not turning in his seat to face him.
Well, fuck. He slowed his movements, but he eventually opened the fridge door. But who was he kidding? It wasn’t like this wasn’t the first question you’d ask in a situation like this. He just wished Matt didn’t have to be so reasonable sometimes.
“No,” He said, pulling out a bag of bread along with a few other ingredients.
Matt’s brows furrowed, but he kept looking at his tea as he picked it up. No, huh? Giving it a long, thoughtful sip, he placed it back down on his coaster. He certainly didn’t see that coming. But he kept his composure, displaying no change in his expression whatsover.
He lifted his eyes to his brother, who carried on with his mission like he didn’t just say what he did. “Why?”
“They’re not gonna do anything. They never do,” Alfred’s eyes darkened, laying everything out on the table. He forced his hand into the bread bag and pulled out a slice. “This was an act of intimidation. Nobody got hurt, and I doubt we have a lot of evidence. And if there were witnesses, you really think they’re gonna say anything?”
Matt closed his eyes and gave a resigned sigh.
“Exactly. The po-po aren’t gonna pick their asses up to do an actual investigation without their work cut out for them.”
The other man looked off to the side disparagingly. “Detroit’s finest.”
“Besides, they’ve got them all in their pockets.” Alfred slapped a few slices of ham down on his bread, then proceeded with the cheese.
“So what’re we gonna do?” Matt frowned.
“I’ve got an idea.”
“And what’s that?”
Alfred stopped and gave him a wordless stare, pressing his tongue to his lower lip. Matt held him with an unwavering gaze, and it grew sharper the longer he looked at him, until it was practically piercing.
Neither of them had to say it out loud for it to be known.
He had a stupid idea brewing in his mind, and for the first time, Matt didn’t know what it could be. And Alfred was lucky this time. A pair of footsteps was heard outside the dining room. They both took a deep breath and looked away from each other when you and Gilbert poured in, talking about your latest fixations.
But when Matt noticed you two were too busy looking in the fridge to pay them any mind, he gave Alfred another look.
Only Alfred was already looking at him.
And his lips were pursed tightly together like he was trying to hold his tongue.
“Are you sure you don’t want the bed?” You asked him for the third time that night. The day went by in a flash, and before he knew it, he was trying to put you into bed--his bed.
He thought he’d made it plenty clear enough that he wanted you to stop being this way, but apparently not.
He took his glasses off, and when he did, he didn’t know whether he was squinting from his poor eyesight or something else. Heaving out a sigh, he put it in their case and clamped it shut.
“Yes, I’m sure. Now go to sleep and stop worrying about me,” He mumbled at you.
“Someone’s mad.”
“I’m only mad because you don’t listen,” Alfred replied, throwing a blanket over his inflatable mattress on the ground. Flattening it with a few sweeps with his foot, he trotted off to the side where he put his spare pillow. Then, he picked it up, fluffed it up, and tossed it on his bed. “Now if you don’t go to sleep, I’ll climb in there and Dutch oven you.”
“I’m not scared of you,” You hummed.
“You should be,” He licked his bottom lip, jumping on your bed on all fours. You gasped as your eyes flew open. Out of all the times he’d threatened you with it, he was actually serious this time. He contained you with his limbs on either side of your body, pinning you down under the blanket. You began to squirm, but you only squirmed harder the closer he leaned down to you.
With a dark, pleasureable grin, he got so close to your face that you could feel--and smell--his warm minty breath.
But judging from how much he seemed to get off to this, you were about to be in for something far less pleasant.
“I had a burrito today.”
“Okay, maybe a little,” You peeped, hearing him let out out a low, rumbling laugh. That was when he tore your blanket off, and you just began screaming. You tried to push him off as hard as you could, but he was an immoveable object. “Okay, okay, I’m sorry, stop!”
Alfred didn’t stop, his grin widening as he got under the covers with you.
But just when you thought he’d let it rip, you heard nothing. And smelled nothing. He just stayed on top of you on all fours, hovering over you with his body. Then, he stared at you, and without letting his grin falter, he started lowering himself onto you.
“No, no, stop that right now--”
All until he put his entire body weight on top of you. And being a two-hundred pound man, it was the closest thing you’d ever get to being crushed to death. You could feel every inch of his frontside pressing down on you, his chest, stomach, and everything under that. But considering that you were being suffocated, you didn’t exactly care that you could feel his dick right now.
“Get your fat ass off me!” You slapped his back.
“You’ve seen my six-pack. I’m not fat.” He closed his eyes contently.
“Doesn’t feel like that right now,” You coughed, “I’m serious, Alfred. I can’t breathe.”
“Oh fuck, sorry.” He immediately shot off you, and you sucked in a deep breath of air. While you panted on the bed, he laid on his side and watched you with a wry smile. You looked kind of hot like this, but that was definitely an inside thought. “I’m guessing you want me to go back to my bed now.”
“Yeah, get off.”
“Alright, fine.”
Allen had to a catch a flight to get to Detroit. The whole four hours that he sat in his seat, he couldn’t loosen his grip on his armrests. He didn’t eat anything either. The churning in his stomach proved too nauseating for him to keep any food down. With the thoughts that raced through his mind, it was a wonder how he hadn’t thrown up already.
He really was going back. After working so hard to get away from Motown, he was going back to clean up the mess he’d left behind. Getting killed wasn’t entirely off the table, but that seemed to pale in comparison to everything else.
Seeing Alfred and his brothers again.
Seeing you.
He wondered what you looked like now. If you looked the same, or looked better. Because there was no chance in Hell that you could go the other way. How you felt about him, if you felt anything at all. It had been a few years since he’d left for Los Angeles, and you were probably completely indifferent to him now.
Maybe you even had a boyfriend.
No, scratch that. You definitely had a boyfriend. Whoever it was, he didn’t even have the right to mope about it. He left you, and this was just the consequences of his actions. What he’d see, what he’d find out--he wouldn’t be able to do jack shit about it.
Even if it killed him.
Once he touched down in Detroit in the afternoon, he rented a car to drive into his old neighborhood. Even while he was inside, he could feel the biting cold seep in through his clothes. He almost forgot how freezing Michigan was. And he didn’t exactly enjoy the reminder--he hated the cold. Sinking into his neck, he tensed up his whole body as he steered.
On the way there, he went past dozens of empty ice-encrusted buildings. Without any windows, they were nothing but hollow structures, howling with fierce winds. The sun also sat low in the sky, casting a dim blue haze over them and making them look ghostlier than usual. He’d always hated this about Detroit. How this city’s most defining traits were all the monuments of wasted potential and dead dreams.
“I fucking hate this place,” He muttered, scanning his surroundings for a brief second before returning his attention to the road ahead.
“It probably doesn’t love you either,” Amy replied.
He shot her a side-eye, but didn’t say anything otherwise. She couldn’t have been more right. Detroit was filled with people he’d done wrong, and he’d start with the people he once held the closest to him.
Not long later, he pulled into the driveway of his old house. The mere sight of it made him so nervous, he felt sick. His eyes were racing, yet somehow unfocused like he was lost in his head. He just looked so anxious, Amy had to stop and ask if he was okay.
But he couldn’t even hear her then.
Climbing out of his car, he made his way toward the porch.
And with every step he took toward the front door, every ounce of pride and confidence he built over the last few years seemed to disappear. By the time he was standing in front of it, he felt as small as the day he left.
And this was without knowing you were the first person he was going to see.
Allen closed his eyes and sighed, reaching up to knock on the door--not knowing you would be the one to answer it.
Surprise! Happy belated birthday to narratornyanko 😼
Sorry for the major delay, but I’ve been multitasking my papers at the same time 😭 And this isn’t *exactly* what was requested, so think of this as an additional bonus. There’s also a lack of content for Matt, and this was needed as a perfect foundation for a later story because someone else requested him 🙈 I hope you enjoy it!
NSFW 2P Canada Headcanons 🍁
When it comes to this rugged Canadian man, the first thing that comes into mind isn’t romance or sex. He has a lot of hobbies that can make him break a good sweat, and he’s indifferent to women.
He also lives in the woods averse to the company of other people, so he’s not getting laid anytime soon. But it’s always been about finding the right one, and now that he’s met you, he’s like an animal in bed.
Very explicit content. R18+ only.
He has a very active lifestyle, so he’s raging with testosterone. Whether he’s cutting and collecting firewood, gardening, or fishing in his boat, he’s almost always sweaty he comes home. When he sees you, his mind will inevitably start to wander. You’re dressed lightly and making dinner, so he can’t help but come up from behind to kiss you. “Not now, Matt.” You push him a little, but he just groans and wraps around you, stubborn as.
Matt has good self-control. Nothing grinds his gears more than feeling like apart of a collective, i.e., a jerk with a dick. So if you’re resisting him, he’ll back off immediately and find something else to do. But if you’re in the mood, he never rejects you. If you do so little as look at him right, he’ll understand. Matt knows you’re a lot shyer than him, so he’ll take charge and pull you in without you having to say a word. “Come here.”
He isn’t afraid to ask for what he wants. It isn’t uncommon for him to just drop the bomb on you (wanna do it?) but it’s become more of an inside joke than a serious question. Matt will bring it up during the worst possible moments, like to break a long silence or in a somewhat serious context. You hit him in the chest and walk off, but he knows you’re only doing that to hide your smile. “I know you like me.” He ambles after you.
Matt would rather use body language to let you know he wants you. You never tell him that you love him, and he’s not very sweet to you either. He never gets you flowers, he’s a lot meaner than most boyfriends, and he doesn’t care much for any anniversaries. But everything seems to fall into place in the bedroom. The sexual tension is unbearable, and the way he stares at you makes you feel naked. Then, he’ll come over and loom on top you, waiting for you to look up at him.
You meet his eyes, and that’s when all hell breaks loose. He’s kissing you like he’s starved, his head moving fervently against yours while he puts his hands all over you. Matt has been dying for your affection for way too long, and now that he has it, he can’t get enough. He also has a thing for your boobs, so he’ll reach for them under your shirt and cup them. He does this while breathing like a dog, and he has an expectant look in his eyes as if to ask, “what’re you gonna do about it?”
He’s good with his hands. He also has really thick fingers, so he never fails to pleasure you with them. He will put you in his lap with your back facing him and touch you like that from behind. He traps you between his arms and pins your shoulder down with his chin while he rubs your clit like crazy. You’re fighting for your life as he makes you cum, but you can’t hope to get away from him. Just when you think he’s done, he’ll stick a finger in and hook you from the inside.
Matt knows your body even better than you do. He’s very sensitive to it and knows when you’re rejecting him. He will put his tip in you and sink deeper in, but never more than you can really take. Soon, he’ll have all nine inches of his cock inside you, and he’ll rock you on it nice and slow so you can feel him stretch you out. “That’s it…” He’s very thorough in this stage because he’s connecting with you, and if you didn’t want him, he wouldn’t have gotten past the tip. “Yeah…”
He’s a lot bigger than you. His back is also really wide, so he can cover your entire body with it. And he’s incredibly strong, which means he has total control over you. When he play fights with you, he doesn’t even have to try to pin you down. “You done?” And when he has sex with you, he gets off to feeling you tremble from penetration. You’re shaking and moaning his name, telling him that you can’t. “You will… Just relax for me…” He loves how much he is for you, even too much, especially when you always take him so well.
Before you know it, tears are running down your face and your eyes are rolled back in pleasure as he pounds and gapes your pussy. When he sees the mess he’s made of you, he goes mad with a desire beyond the flesh. Submitting to him like this when he doesn’t deserve it drives him crazy. Matt will hold you in all sorts of compromising positions to rearrange your guts, like standing up so he can bounce you on him with no mercy.
Matt loves anal. Not just because it’s tight, but he wants to be inside you in any way that he can. You’ll find that he’s really possessive of you, so he doesn’t want there to be anything you haven’t done with him. He also thinks your asshole is cute, so he’ll splay your cheeks apart to look at it. Be mad at him all you want, he’s not changing his mind about plunging inside. It’s invasive and downright dirty, but that’s what makes it so hot.
He doesn’t have any sexual boundaries with you. He will be as nasty as you let him, but even he can’t promise he’ll behave. If you decide to wake him up with a handjob, he’s more than happy to receive. While you pump his morning wood, he’ll just grin darkly at you like he’s the one with the upper hand. Matt loves it when you do this to him, because when you don’t even bother to ask, it goes to show how much you want him. It’s not exactly consensual, but he’s a freak like that. “You’re molesting me now?” He chuckles lowly.
Matt has a piss kink. It’s not surprising that he likes embarrassing you, but he wouldn’t go so far as to do his business on you. He’s decent enough not to put you through that, he just doesn’t mind if you did it to him. In fact, if you try to run off to the bathroom, he might pull you back and keep you on him until you can’t hold it anymore. When it finally comes out, you’ll be mortified beyond relief, crying, and hitting him, but he gets even more turned on. “Don’t be shy. It’s only natural.”
There’s just something so hot about getting you so vulnerable that you relieve yourself on him. After all, you and Matt fight a lot more than the average couple. Having gross and invasive sex is a glaring reminder of how crazy he is about you. “You’re disgusting, Matt…” You tear up, moaning as he rocks you on his dick. He hasn’t cleaned the sheets since the last round, so the smell of sex and bodily fluids is practically searing, but he likes it that way. “I’m just obsessed with you…”
He has a thing for your smell, especially when you haven’t washed yet. Your sweat and musk is enough to give him a hard-on, and he’ll want to eat you out. Matt will find you before you have a chance to take a shower for that sole purpose. Then, he’ll take off your underwear and bury his face between your legs. He’ll suck on your pussy, lick you, and tongue-fuck you until you cum right in his mouth. By the end of it, your thighs are bruised and you’re dripping with nothing but his saliva since he’s swallowed everything else.
He’s really hairy. On his chest, under his armpits, all over his stomach, there’s no shortage of it no matter where you look. He also has a thick happy trail leading down to his pecker, so the rest is pretty self-explanatory. He doesn’t care to shave, especially when he knows how much you like it. You’ve always found his ruggedness attractive, and with his size, it’s like being with a bear.
He likes it when you play with his dick. Matt finds it amusing when you slap it around, or squeeze it. Sometimes, he takes the initiative to guide your hand to his boxers, or inside them. If you try and hit him there, he’ll just grunt and goad you on. “Oh, you can do better than that.” What more is that he doesn’t mind when you touch him under the covers while you’re cuddling, and even while he’s falling asleep. Because if he does get hard, it’s gonna be your responsibility to deal with.
He takes offense if you kick him out of the room to change. He’s already seen every inch of you, inside and out, so he doesn’t understand why you’d try to undo that now. Not that you can. He’ll just take it as you trying to push him away, and he won’t take kindly to that at all. He will sit on the bed and refuse to move, even leaning back to get comfortable. “This doesn’t change the fact that we have sex every other night.”
Matt has a really intense weakness for your tears. If he’s mad and you hug him from behind, he’ll forgive you in an instant. Either you miss him, or you feel really bad about what you did. But if you cry, he will carry you to the bedroom and make love to you until you’re crying from an entirely different reason altogether. If you’re apologizing even with him inside you, he will lose his mind and go so hard, you won’t be able to speak.
Your vulnerability is like a drug to him, and he’s addicted to it. It makes it undeniable how deeply you feel about him, whether it’s sadness, anger, embarrassment or desire. He doesn’t care what it is, so long as you have an emotional reaction to him. For that reason, Matt feels very close to you even when you two argue. He’s the type to look after you even when he’s upset, so you’ll never doubt his feelings for you when things get tough.
Matt is the best at aftercare. As much as you want to sleep off the exhausting sex you’ve been having with him, he’ll refuse and carry you to the bathroom to clean you up. He knows he’s a lot to handle, both in and out of the bedroom. And as stubborn as he can be about communicating his feelings, the one thing he won’t withhold from you is acts of service. It’s how he shows he cares, and he doesn’t want you to feel used afterwards.
He’ll bathe you, get you dressed in something comfortable, then put you on the couch while he makes pancakes. After the best meal you’ve had all day, he lets you rest in the living room so he can swap out the sheets for clean ones. If there’s anything else you want him to do that he hasn’t, he’ll do them too. Chores, errands, you name it. He knows that foreplay starts outside of the bedroom, so pulling his weight will make sure that sex will always be a good experience for you.

Chapter synopsis: Allen has a conversation with you for the first time in years, and it’s obvious the years have done their damage. He invites you out to lunch with him and Amy on a whim, but it goes even worse than he expected. When you three return home, he goes out for a smoke break to cope. But while he’s standing outside, he sees Alfred hugging you in the kitchen, and his suspicions get proven correct. That night, he meets Alfred to start plotting their revenge against the thugs, and they’re in for a bigger turnout than he thought.
“Hey,” Allen spluttered, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. “You’re up early.”
“So are you,” You managed a weak smile. Needless to say, you weren’t the only one who got caught off their guard. It was almost assuring to think about, that he was just as startled to see you as you were him. Even then, you wrapped your arms around yourself. “Shouldn’t you be asleep?”
“I should be. But I couldn’t sleep,” He cracked a wry grin.
“Right.”
“You, uh, want a coffee?” He pointed behind him with his thumb.
“Yes please.” You said.
Allen nodded before turning around to the coffee machine. With his back to you, you wouldn’t have seen the way his expression faltered. For a brief second, memories of you and him in this very kitchen flashed in his mind. You’d help him make veggie burgers for everyone so nobody would give him shit for cooking a vegetarian meal. And to return the favor, he’d prepare some chicken before roasting it in the oven no matter how much it made his stomach turn.
Sure, he always made enough for everyone, but thinking he was doing it for you made it so much easier.
He dropped a capsule into the hole at the top, shut the lid, then pressed the button to dispense it into a mug. The mechanial whir was so loud, he closed his eyes and sighed out of his nose. As if this interaction wasn’t awkward enough.
Once the machine finished dispensing the shot, he glanced at you over his shoulder.
“You want some milk?”
“Yes please.”
Not that he didn’t already know how you liked your coffee. But a part of him didn’t want to play it into it, because the more he entertained his history with you, well, that part was pretty self-explanatory. He poured some milk into the frother and pressed the button to get it going. It began to hum. If he could just act like you were a stranger, maybe this would all blow over like nothing. Like he never saw you again, like you never saw him again. Maybe he and Alfred could get to bottom of everything in weeks, and this would all be over before he realized he was losing sleep over the way you looked at him the day before.
But that would be easier said than done.
Eventually, the frother stopped humming. He picked it up and poured the foamed-up milk into your mug. Then, he turned around and handed it to you.
“Here.”
“Thanks.” You took it from him and gave it a slow sip, your eyes downcast.
“So…” Allen began. You kept your head down as you drank. “… You got any plans today?”
“Not really,” You replied curtly, not looking up at him. “Usually, I’d be at work, so.”
“Right,” He murmured, lips pursing. He hoped that conversation starter would lighten things up a bit, but he just made things harder for himself. You still weren’t looking at him, and your work. Your store. It made his chest tighten with guilt everytime he was reminded of it, not that he could ever forget. In a desperate attempt to move on from that subject, he let out something he didn’t exactly think through. “Well, Amy and I were gonna head out for lunch later. You’re more than welcome to join.”
“…”
“That’s only if you want to.” He practically lurched forward, eyes going wide. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck. Why did he have to be so damn polite? Before you could really shoot him down, he quickly added this. “Amy misses you, so.”
At the sound of that, you seemed to relax a little.
“I’ll think about it.” You murmured.
Thank God. Only the relief he felt wasn’t so much about getting lunch with you--he didn’t really care about lunch. It was that you didn’t completely reject him. It made him so excited, he couldn’t help blurting this out. “Great!”
You gave him a funny look.
“I mean, that’s cool.” He corrected himself, nodding. “Just let me know, alright? Or you could just tell Amy.”
“I will,” You smiled softly. “Thanks for the coffee.”
“Anytime.”
Noon came faster than he’d expected, and before he knew it, he was walking behind you and his sister on the pavement.
You actually agreed. But as much as he wanted to feel good about it, he knew you only came for Amy.
Not that he could complain.
Ice crunched under his boots at a rhythmic constancy. His hands were buried deep in the pockets of his leather jacket, and his neck was snug in a burghundy scarf. Even then, he still felt the occasional chill run down his spine. But that was Michigan for you. Every inch of uncovered skin, and even the tiniest gap let the freezing air in. And Detroit? It was just like how he remembered it to be.
Now that it was the middle of the day, he could really see it for what it was. With all the vacant buildings, abandoned housing, and grafitti-covered walls, it was a ghost town. A neverending backalley of backalleys. Only people still lived here.
A passerby walked past him, and he met their eyes.
The look behind them was very telling, even if it may have just been him projecting. After all, how wrong could he be? There was a never-ending list of why he left this Godforsaken place, with the failed infrastructure barely just scratching the surface.
How you and Alfred, or any of his brothers managed to keep living in this Rust Belt City was beyond him.
Getting inside the restaurant was like a breath of fresh air; they revamped the place since he last came.
Allen scanned the interior as he followed you and Amy to your seats. He felt like an asshole for thinking it, that this was probably the first semblance of civilization he’d felt in a while around here. But that relief was short-lived. Shortly after getting shown to your seats, a booth, you and Allen scooted inwards on the bench. However, Amy stayed standing at the edge of the table like she had no intention to sit down. You glanced up at her, lips separating ajar. He did too, but he kept his mouth shut.
“I’m gonna head to the bathroom. Be right back.” She dropped her purse on the table in a clatter.
Fuck.
The second she left, silence fell around you both. And it had never been so loud.
Allen reached up to his neck and held it, his lips stretched into a flat line. He also turned his head to the side. He should’ve seen this coming. That he was going to end up alone with you at one point. But at this point, it wasn’t really the tension that bothered him.
It was everything else.
He didn’t forget how he acted this morning. He was still clinging to a slither of hope that you still cared about him, whether he liked it or not. And without Amy to keep you occupied, he had all the reigns to say anything he wanted. If he could just keep his trap shut and not say anything to you, even for only a few minutes, or however long it took for Amy to come back, he was as good as gold.
But he just couldn’t control himself.
“So, you seeing anybody?” He turned back to you, smiling wryly.
He held his breath in the short time it took you to answer, and even though the quiet lasted less than a second, it felt like an eternity.
“Not really,” You replied. “What about you?”
His eyes went round. But before you could notice the way he reacted, he wrinkled his nose.
“Nah. Don’t have the time for it.”
“That’s fair.”
But he couldn’t just take the win.
He found himself insatiable, spurred on by the crazy high he was riding.
“But, uh, you and Alfred seem close,” Allen brought up. He spoke slow enough so that he couldn’t seem too interested, but not to the point that it seemed forced. “What’s the story behind that?”
A smile immediately went across your face, and you laughed out of your nose. Hell, you smiled the widest you had that whole day, and he didn’t know how to feel about it.
To rub more salt in the wound, you glanced down at the table while you did.
So it obviously wasn’t for him.
“Well, like I said, he’s been looking out for me,” You said ever so tantalizingly. “He’s been a real sweetheart.”
“Huh.”
“What do you mean, huh?”
“Nothing,” Allen pursed his lips, leaning back. “He just doesn’t seem like the type.”
“He can be,” You sighed out of your nose and stared him dead in the eye. “He’s changed since the last time you last saw him. But then again, everything has.”
He didn’t even know how to react then. It all came so quickly. You and Alfred, growing up together. You actually getting defensive of him. Then every other thing. That only left two questions on his mind--how much did he miss? And how much did your life get upended because of him? He couldn’t ask. All he could do was the same damn thing he always did.
“I’m sorry,” He whispered through a strained look.
You forced another smile. “For what?”
For what, you said.
Two words never killed himself so fast. He didn’t realize how much he’d staked on his apology until he felt it--being completely and utterly crushed. If you meant what you said, every memory he made with you, good or bad, may as well have never existed. The past just didn’t exist to you anymore. He was so unimportant, you couldn’t even do the least of hating him.
As he came to terms with that fact, a dull ache started in his chest.
And it grew and grew until he felt a lump in his throat.
Did he really mean nothing to you now?
His lips separated agape like he was about to say it, but the words got caught in his throat. And even if he did choose to speak up, he’d lost his chance. Amy came walking back from the bathoom, breath heavy from the quick strides she made. Scooting into the booth next to you, she exchanged unassuming looks between you both.
“What did I miss?” She piped.
You both looked at her, but neither of you could give her an answer.
When you three returned home, he excused himself to go to the back yard. He didn’t have to say it for you and Amy to know. He was going to smoke, which he hadn’t done in more than a year, apparently. You could only sigh and turn away. Amy was tempted to storm out there and put it out, but she stopped herself. After how that outing concluded, she couldn’t find it in herself to do it.
And besides, she couldn’t help thinking it had everything to do with the few minutes that she left for the bathroom.
What happened in that short period that it left things this bad?
As if Allen hadn’t already had his fill, Alfred happened to come home not long later. He’d been standing out in the yard, exhaling a long puff of smoke when he heard the commotion. He turned his head to the window. His brothers had just returned from work, and were all pouring into the kitchen to check on the progress of dinner like the food-focused people they were. You and Amy just pulled out some ingredients for dinner, talking about lasagna.
After a brief moment, Matt and Gilbert left.
But Alfred stayed.
Allen kept his gaze fixed on him as he took another deep inhale from his cigarette, which he had pinched between thumb and fore finger. The end glowed a bright neon orange. He knew how bad cigarettes were for him, but after today, he couldn’t help himself. And with what he was seeing, he may as well have gone through the whole pack. Alfred rolled back his sleeves, like he was about to help you with it. But that wasn’t what got his heart pounding. Nor was it when you reached up to hug him.
It was when he hugged you back, and in such a way that any man who witnessed it would know exactly how he felt about you.
He pressed his hand into the lower part of your back, then swayed you gently from side to side.
Alfred liked you. He liked you in the same way that he loved you. As he came to terms with that fact, his heart pounded so hard, he could hear it coming out of his ears. He’d never felt so angry. So humiliated. Because in that moment, he realized that everything his brother said to him yesterday hadn’t just been to provoke him. That his relationship with you was none of his business, that if he slept with you, he was in no place to say anything.
Alfred wasn’t just trying to piss him off--he was staking his claim on you.
And he was telling him to back off.
That night at around 3AM, Allen got out of bed. He threw on his clothes like he was about to walk out into the freezing cold--a long, skin-tight shirt, a sweater, and his bomber jacket. The things he would do for you was endless, it seemed. So why did it have to be this way? He stared at himself long and hard in the bathroom mirror like he’d find the answers. And he did. It was there in the black circles under his eyes, the chip in his tooth as he grimaced at himself.
It was because he was an idiot, that was why. He was afraid of the world, and so much that he could just vanish. But he never did. Not completely. He lived on in you, and you paid the ultimate price.
He had to fix this.
But even if he did fix this, he wouldn’t expect you to forgive him.
And even if you never found out about it, he wouldn’t tell you. This was his mess to clean up, and he couldn’t bear to have you push him away more than you already did. If he was going to leave you as a stranger, then so be it.
Without making so little as a creak, he trotted downstairs. Once he got to the first floor, he turned his head to the kitchen. A faint light glowed from a spot where he couldn’t see, just behind the wall. It was probably a lamp on the dining table. And it was just dim enough to work with, but not bright enough to alert anybody else in the house that someone was there.
He walked towards the kitchen in slow, cautious steps.
When he got to it, Alfred was staring at him like he’d anticipated his exact arrival. And he was standing by the dining table with a gun in his hand. His heart sank to the pit of his stomach. The way he held it, with his finger in the trigger guard, was like he was about to shoot him. But he stifled back any reaction whatsoever.
“Took you long enough.” Alfred murmured, placing the gun on the table with a light clink.
So he wasn’t going to put him on a shirt after all. But if he did, that would be the day.
He could take his girl and his life all in a span of twenty-four hours.
His gaze fell down to his gun, then to what lay next to it. An intimidating spread of even more guns. Shotguns. Semis. Even a fucking crowbar. It was the perfect collection of everything you needed to murder someone and get away with it. He knew he was going after a bunch of thugs, but this was one hell of a way to pitch a revenge killing.
“What’s this?” He murmured, trying to not let the emotions he felt earlier slip through his voice.
“Pick your blick. I’m only gonna do this once, or else Matt’s gonna notice his bed got moved.”
“Fine,” Allen sighed out of his nose, approaching the table with his head craned like he was window shopping at the farmer’s market. To this day, his older brother still kept the family jewels under his mattress. They were put there along with other necessities like birth certificates and emergency cash. He scanned the lot, then picked up a handgun. “So what’s the plan?”
“When Allen showed up the day after (F/N)’s store got shot up, I knew something was up,” Someone spoke up from the darkness.
Oh, shit.
He and Alfred whipped their heads to the source, eyes wide. Matt walked into the kitchen from the living room, his arms were crossed for the most unsurprised look ever. Oh, fuck. Speaking of family jewels, there couldn’t have been a better sibling to guard the stash than Matt, and that somehow only occurred to him just now.
“You two are gonna go after the shooters.” Their older brother continued, looking from Allen to Alfred. And he did it so slowly, it was tantalizing for the man who received the final word. “How the fuck are you two knuckleheads gonna do that?”
“We were working on that.” Alfred muttered, looking to the side. He’d been so confident, but he couldn’t even look Matt in the eye right now--probably because Matt directed that question at him more than at Allen. He was the mastermind behind it after all, only now that he was confronted for it, he didn’t feel half as smart about it than he did a second ago.
“Does (F/N) know?”
Silence.
“Are either of you gonna tell her?”
More silence. Alfred and Allen glanced at each other, and even though they didn’t say anything, it was written all over their faces. They weren’t going to tell you, and were just hoping for it to blow over by the time you, or anyone, for that matter, cared to ask.
“She has a right to know. It’s her store. If this is gonna come back to her, she should at least know who was responsible.”
“And how’s that gonna help? She’s stressed enough as it is.” Alfred argued.
“So fill her in. Let her know what you two idiots are doing.” Matt raised his brows.
“Hey, at least we’re doing something.” The other snapped, storming at him. Allen immediately followed on instinct, only ever stopping when Alfred did. Holy shit. Since when was Alfred so reactive? He almost thought he was about to swing on Matt for a second, and that he had to invervene.
However, Matt didn’t even budge. He just stared down at the blonde like he was nothing but an insect.
Now, that was the Matt Allen remembered. He took charge of the house with an iron fist, and he wasn’t afraid of anything.
But Alfred?
He was showing a new side he’d never seen before. He’d never known him to be so out of control--so bold that he may as well have been digging his own grave. The fact that he was standing up to Matt of all people was testament to it. Had all the years living in Detroit hardened him and made him this way? Or was it because you were in the equation?
“Unlike you, we aren’t scared to actually make a difference. Not just stand around and play house.”
“Stand around and play house?” Matt snorted. Then, he burst into full-on laughter. And it was the first time either of them had seen him laugh this hard, or laughed at all for the last how many years. Allen raised his brows until he couldn’t anymore, while Alfred’s face that was once contorted with anger began to falter. Once Matt calmed down some, he tried to get these words out through a low chuckle. “You think I’m a pussy just because I take care of everyone?”
“That’s not what I said.” Alfred whispered.
“It is though,” Matt stopped laughing entirely. Then, his eyes darkened into a glare. The change was quite subtle, but Alfred looked terrified. And even though Allen wasn’t the target right now, he still felt intimidated. “I’ve been taking care of this household ever since mom died, and now I’m just trying to make sure none of us get killed. But the problem is, we’re probably already on their list.”
“You don’t know that.”
“Doesn’t matter. If you two go after them, they’ll go after the rest of us.”
“Then what do you expect us to do? Just sit around and wait for that to happen?” Alfred exasperated.
“No,” Matt replied after a long pause. “Let me help.”
Alfred gawked at him, and so did Allen.
“Someone’s gotta make sure you two clowns don’t get yourselves killed.” He grimaced.

Brothers
1 - Secrets
How two people who grew up together and lived the same experiences, went on to live two completely different lives had always been a phenomenon. In this case, it was tempting to blame it on the fact that they weren’t blood-related. He and Allen were adoptive brothers, and up until they were six years old, thought they were cut from the same cloth.
Blonde hair, blue eyes. Red eyes, tan skin.
They were practically identical.
But as the saying went, the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. After all, it wasn’t just them who shared the same deformative years together.
There was Matt, and there was Gilbert.
Matt was a smart guy, but he was more of a case study than a person. He was always off doing his own thing, yet somehow always knew what was going on with everybody else. He’d even talk about disappearing into the Canadian Rockies and turning into a missing person, but he still had yet to make good on that aspiration.
Gilbert was the resident rockstar, who always swore he was gonna take off soon and never did. But nobody blamed him. He was the youngest one of the litter, and it wasn’t like any of them knew what they were doing. In fact, all of them worked in the same autoshop in Detroit, repairing shitboxes for a living--except one.
Allen.
Allen had fucked off all the way to California for the sake of a better future or something, and to this day, he still hadn’t forgiven him for it.
“I’m going to the store. Ya’ll want anything?” He yelled from the hallway. He was scrambling to throw his jacket on, knowing damn well he’d need it. And along with that, his beanie, which he’d left on the coat hanger. Taking that off the hook, he pulled it over his head, flattening his sandy blonde hair.
It made him look homeless, but he’d rather that than die from hypothermia.
Michigan winters were harsh, and if he didn’t put on enough layers, his body wouldn’t be found until after Spring.
“No thanks!” Gilbert shouted from the bedroom, quickly realigning his fingers to play another chord. Right now, as he prepared to leave, the albino was in his bedroom, laying on his bed and strumming his electric guitar. But it didn't take some kind of six sense to know that--he could feel the vibrations and hear the chords he was playing from all the way downstairs.
And Matt?
Well, he hadn’t seen him haunting the place for a while, so he could only assume he was being held hostage by a giant shit in the bathroom.
“You’re going to the store again?” Matt questioned with a slight echo in his voice. He was just a few rooms down on the toilet just as he suspected, so there was no need to speak any louder than he usually did. It was almost impressive how he never managed to catch him using anything other than an inside voice--he was just that much of a soft-spoken man, apparently.
But the things he said didn’t always sit right with him.
“Didn’t you go yesterday?”
“Do you, or do you not want anything from the store?” He asked again slowly, enunciating every word like he was about to blow.
“No, I do not want anything from the store.”
“Was that so hard?”
“I was just asking,” Matt raised his brows quickly before letting them come down, unimpressed. Alfred was sometimes so defensive whenever he asked about his life. And God forbid he wanted some details. That was when he cracked a shit-eating grin, not taking his eyes off the newspaper sprawled over his lap. “So are you going to the store to buy something, or--”
“God, would you give it a rest?”
“--to check out the cute cashier girl?”
Now that did it. Alfred marched all the way back to the bathroom and poked his head inside. And phew, did it stink. But his conviction didn’t wane, and his brows tightened for a deep frown. “Why would you talk about her like you don’t know her personally?”
“To piss you off,” Matt replied monotonously without glancing up at him, turning the page of his newspaper. Tracing his index finger down some headlines, he scanned through some major events--hockey news, job listings, and the weather, because that was all the average Detroiter could ever care about.
“Well, you did. Now leave me alone, alright?” Alfred huffed, taking a step back from the door before walking back down the hall again. Matt scoffed as if to go, says the guy who just barged in on me in the toilet. He really needed to move out soon, preferably to a place where he wouldn't have human contact for weeks. At least then, he could have some privacy.
But that took money, which nobody seemed to have these days.
The front door slammed shut. Then, a few moments later when he knew Alfred was out of earshot, he muttered this under his breath.
“He didn’t even deny it.”
But at this stage, it was common knowledge that the guy was infatuated.
There was just one problem.
“Deny what?” Gilbert asked, getting him to lift his eyes to him. He licked his bottom lip with a vacant expression, caught off guard by the unexpected additional invasion of privacy. His little brother had decided to go on a toilet break, and he was standing in the doorframe watching him do his business. But he should’ve known better. At this point, it was his fault for not closing the door. “Hurry it up. I need to shit.”
You were Allen’s ex-girlfriend.
And as much as Alfred hated him for leaving, even he wouldn’t stoop that low.

Across the country in California where the weather was a lot more reasonable, was a man who’d left the nest for less-than-noble pursuits. Money. It was always about the money, but his brothers seemed to have a higher threshold for what they could tolerate before letting it get to their heads. At least that was what he wished it was all about, because reality was much more complicated.
He was running away from something, and to this day, nobody in his family suspected a thing.
And he wanted to keep it that way.
“Let me know when that Tim guy gets back to us. It’s been two weeks. Either he makes an order or he stops running his ideas by us,” Allen said to his sister as he made himself a bowl of cereal on the kitchen island. Pouring some milk over his Cinnamon Toast Crunch, he didn’t bother to stir before spooning some into his mouth, munching on it as he spoke. “He’s milking us for our services.”
“Yeah, yeah. Just let me finish the actual design first.” Amy widened her eyes for a brief second in annoyance, but without taking them off her laptop screen. She never pegged her brother to be a bossy person, let alone the business-savvy type. But ever since they started this custom T-shirt and clothing business, he’d been suprisingly... Proactive. Not that she could blame him. It was practically a dream come true for him to be able to live off his own means.
And she had to give it to him.
They’d managed to get a decent apartment in LA as a result, filled with everything they could’ve ever wanted. Plasma TV. A brand new car. Home decor. Things that didn’t have a function beyond aesthetics, and only related to self-expression. It was almost insane now that she thought about how far they’d come. Funnily enough, Allen wasn’t that much better with money than when he didn’t have any--he’d spend his money as fast he could make it.
On random, useless knickknacks he always wanted but never had the chance to own, only to lose interest the minute he got his hands on them. It was only because of her that they weren’t totally bankrupt.
But looking after her brother sure as Hell beat living in Detroit anyday.
Scooping up the last up his cereal, Allen turned on the sink faucet and put some water into his bowl. Then, he hopped over the couch and to the dining table where Amy was. Peering down at her screen with a squint, he went, “Are you sure that looks like the pictures he sent you? Those lines look a bit too curly.”
“If you want something to micro-manage, maybe look at the dry patch on your cheek and use some Nivea.”
“Crap.”
He took off just like that, running off to the bathroom.
Amy gave her head a slow shake, somehow surprised by how well that worked. What didn’t surprise her, however, was when she heard the distant squeak of the shower turning on. Typical. Whenever he felt like something was wrong with his appearance, he’d just take a shower and use up all her skincare products.
Something was up with her brother, and whatever it was, she always made sure to get him out of the bathroom before the water bill started looking like a phone number.

“Jam, jam, jam… Where’s the jam?” Alfred peered around the floor for a bit, looking for a specific box. But it wasn’t until you came walking toward him did he really speed things up.
It was times like this when he felt like the incompetent boyfriend about to get chewed out for not seeing the ketchup bottle right in front of him, but that would just be him getting ahead of himself. Luckily, he spotted it right when you got to him. “Found it, found it.”
“Are you sure this is how you wanna spend your Saturday?” You asked him while he stocked the shelves. One by one, jars filled the once-empty displays, cutting your work in half.
“Is this your way of saying I’m bad at my job?”
“First of all, this isn’t a job.”
“Because you don’t pay me, right?” He raised his brows.
“Yes,” You smiled lazily, “And you’re great at this, I just feel bad for taking advantage of you.”
“You know I like it,” Alfred closed his eyes for a content expression, getting you to smack him on the shoulder. He was such a flirt sometimes, but you’ve learned to not take it to heart. Little did you know, he meant every word. “At least then you’ll keep me around.”
Your smile faded. You’ve always found it strange when he said things like this, as if he wasn’t there to witness the whole falling out with Allen. If anything, you needed him now more than ever. Not just to help out at the store, even if you’d never tell him that, but as a friend.
“Why wouldn’t I want you around?”
“I don’t know. Just checking,” He smiled wryly. Before the conversation took a more serious turn, he glanced off to the side, rubbing the back of his neck. “Right, how about this?”
You stepped closer to him, not wanting to drop the subject.
But he was too good at dodging the question.
“You get to enslave me for today if…”
You quirked a brow, folding your arms as if to go, I’m listening.
“... You play some hockey with me tonight.”
“Deal.”

Steam flurried from the hot water that sprayed from the shower head. Slicking back his dark maroon hair, Allen closed his eyes and craned his head back under the stream, letting it wash his face like a purifying cleanse. He didn’t always take long showers like this. But ever since he came to Los Angeles, he’d seemed to have adopted a lot of self-care rituals--even if he did take it a little overboard.
“Hey, save some hot water for me.” His sister pounded on the door. That snapped him out of his zen, and he rushed to get out of the shower.
Closing the faucet with a squeak, he pushed the curtain to the side and stepped out onto the rug laying just outside the bathtub.
“Sorry, I’ll be out in a minute.” Allen shouted back, throwing a navy blue towel over his shoulders. Giving himself a rub down, he hung it back up on the bar next to him. That was when he heard more bangs on the door, getting him to let out a sharp sigh. Did he really take that long? He caved and pulled the towel off the bar before tying it around his waist. Then, he swung open the door, stopping all the incessant pounding.
“It’s like a fucking pond in here. What did you do?” Amy immediately frowned.
And she wasn’t wrong--not only was the mirror fogged-up, there were beads of water running down the walls. It was like it rained indoors or something.
“I just took a shower, what do you mean what did I do?” He wrinkled his nose.
“Whatever. Just open the window more next time,” She murmured, going up to the window to push it all the way up to the top.
“My bad,” Allen said, gathering his clothes he’d left on the sink. Then, he left, sauntering back into his bedroom to get dressed. Amy watched him leave with her hands on her hips, giving her head another slow shake. Her brother was such a dope sometimes.
And he knew this was a bad habit, he just couldn’t seem to help it--just like how he couldn't help needing to leave Detroit. And because of that, he had to leave his baby.
You.
But there was one thing he feared even more than he loved you.
Once he got to his bedroom, he stopped in front of a full-body mirror. He’d definitely changed a lot since he first moved here. He was bigger, taller, and had grown a great deal of muscle.
He even got himself tattooed.
So he grew up. But deep down, he knew he was still the same coward as he was when he was younger. He frowned, narrowing his scarlet red eyes for a strained look.
He got in with the wrong crowd, and his days felt numbered ever since.
So no matter how much he missed you, he could never come back.

Skates shredded to a stop on a rink, sending out a white spray of ice. It was late in the afternoon, and the sun had cast a dim orange glow over the city. After getting off work, you and Alfred managed to get some decent time on the hockey rink, playing a few games of rat hockey with whoever else who decided to have the same idea you two had.
But one thing always stayed the same.
“Why do you always go so easy on me?” You couldn’t help asking.
You two had sat yourselves on a nearby bench, taking a breather before heading home.
“Because you’re a girl,” Alfred answered after a slight hesitation, calling it like he saw it.
But that was just him putting on a front.
“Amy’s a girl.” You remarked.
“Debatable.” He craned his head a little.
“You’re so mean!” You widened your eyes, pushing him by the shoulder until he tipped to the side like a buoy. That was right. Amy was your best friend growing up, and Allen’s twin sister.
But due to some fuck-up in the adoption process, she ended up being taken in by another family. Luckily, she was still close enough to get together everyday after school. “Just because she’s good at hockey doesn’t mean she’s not a girl. Are you saying I’m not good at hockey?”
“You know that’s not what I meant.”
“Because I happen to remember teaching you how to do a few trickshots when we were little.”
His cheeks went rosy and he cringed a little, looking to the side out of embarrassment.
“You’re great at hockey,” Alfred murmured, getting you to roll your eyes. But the edges of your lips curled upwards, like he’d just managed to get you to forgive him. And he did. “Amy’s just Amy, you know. She’s... Tough. If I went easy on her, she’d kick my ass on the rink. Then again afterwards for insulting her.”
“That’s Amy for you,” Your smile widened, laughing some.
That was when you remembered the time a guy harassed you on the street while you two were walking home. She didn’t even hesitate. She just stormed right up to him and punched him. Asshole didn’t even see it coming.
Honestly, she was probably the only woman you’ve ever met to really put out in a fight. Needless to say, you’ve yet to see her lose one. But speaking of the past. This conversation was making you a little sentimental, so you couldn’t help leaning into Alfred more than usual--physically and emotionally. You pressed your shoulder up against his as you peered up at him. “So, do you have any plans for Sunday, or can I steal you again for zero dollars an hour?”
And it got him melting like no tomorrow.
“Hey, I got a life you know? Just because I don’t have anything to do doesn’t mean I don’t have anything to do,” Alfred said jokingly, albeit with his cheeks tinted pink.
“I was just kidding,” You chuckled, closing your eyes for a content look. “You’ve done plenty.”
“Hey, I didn’t say no.”
He drove you home that night, with you both sitting in a comfortable silence the entire ride.
While you made your way up the steps to your porch, you turned back to see if he’d left. And he hadn’t, standing right where he was with a wistful smile on his face.
“What is it?” You smiled back gently.
“It’s nothing, I just–” He gave his head a shake, quickly averting his eyes.
He never meant for you to see this look on his face. It was an expression he found himself making whenever you weren’t looking, knowing it showed how he truly he felt about you.
“--I just had fun today.”
Fortunately, you didn’t suspect a thing.
“Me too. Thanks for getting me to come out,” You beamed. “And for helping out at the store.”
“Of course. Somebody’s gotta take care of you.” He softened his gaze.
Alfred said it like it was natural for him to do, and before you knew it, your body had moved on its own. You ran back to him, plowing into his arms and squeezing him as hard as you could.
“Thank you,” You whispered, pressing a hard kiss to his cheek. Until now, Allen had been the only other person to care this much about you. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
But Alfred was starting to look a lot like everything he used to be.
“And you never will,” He wrapped his arms around you, eyes half-lidded. Maybe he was being selfish for this, but he hoped you’d feel this way for him forever--that you’d always need him.
And that Allen would never come back.
Because if he really did come back, he knew he wouldn’t have been able to stand a chance.
Fortunately, it’d take an act of God to get Allen back to Detroit. But this so-called divine intervention just so happened to take place the next morning. You’d been standing behind the counter when a car drove by, opening fire on your shop. Glass shattered, sending shards flying your way. You ducked under the counter, holding your ears as Hell seemed to rain down on you.
When Alfred found you, you were still crying on the floor like you did on the phone.
“Oh fuck,” His let out. His heart beat faster and faster as he processed what just happened--you just survived your first shoot-out. And here you were, only alive by the hair on your head. When he came to that realization, bile rose in his throat and he rushed to get to you. Stepping over all the glass shards scattered over the floor before eventually giving up, he ran over to you and immediately got down on his knees.
“Are you okay? Are you hurt?” Alfred took your face in his hands and checked you for injuries. While he did, his nostrils flared and his eyes glazed over with tears. “I swear to God, (F/N).”
“I’m okay, but the store--” You could barely get a word in before another sob wracked your body. Reaching up to your eyes and holding the balls of your hands to them, you just began crying hysterically. “Everything’s ruined!”
“You almost got killed, and that’s what you’re worried about right now?” Alfred softened his gaze for a pitiful look, pulling you into his arms. Burying his hands into your hair, he held you close enough that he could feel the tremors in your body. You poor thing. Gritting his teeth, his face contorted with a deep anguish.
“I swear to fucking God, I’m gonna kill whoever did this to you.” He whispered sharply under his breath. What he said should’ve been something said in the spur of the moment, but deep down, he knew he wasn’t above it--hunting down the motherfuckers responsible.
And that was evident in what he did next.
He didn’t even hesitate then. While he held you to his chest, he dialed the number of an old friend, someone he hadn’t spoken to in years--and frankly speaking, someone he hoped he’d never see again. Allen. That was right. He was about to turn back the clock, ruining the only good thing he thought he had.
But desperate times called for desperate measures.
This was a targeted shooting by a gang, and he couldn’t deal with this on his own.
And it couldn’t just be anyone who could handle this. Not Matt, not Gilbert. They were Detroiters through and through, but they didn’t know this city’s criminal underbelly like he did. It had to be the fourth brother--someone who knew the streets as well as he did. Someone who had multiple brush-ins with the scum of Detroit and lived to tell the tale.
Or so he was told.
“It’s me,” Alfred breathed into the phone, eyes wide and burning--if looks could kill, he would’ve done that to these thugs with the expression he had right now. “I need your help.”
