     In Lisa’s mind, home was never a place. Home was a person. Home was her family and only one person was part of her family for the longest time. 

      Len. Len was her only family for years and Lisa was fine with that. They may have had a dad in blood, but Lisa had stopped acknowledging that bond long ago. So her little family was just down to her and her brother.

         When Len brought Mick into their inner circle, she was skeptical at first. She didn’t want to share her brother, her safety net, with anyone. Mick had gradually chipped away at her wall. Eventually, Mick was also accepted into Lisa’s family and then it became three.

        She finally became old enough to move out and in with her brother. By then, Len had more friends and Lisa had more people to call a family. It wasn’t the perfect family. It wasn’t the best. However, it was still hers and one she could call home.

          She’s curled up in her brother’s lap, sobs wracking her frame. There was never a time where Len’s presence hadn’t soothed her. That just being around him hadn’t helped calm her nerves.

             Still, at present, she’s shaking and crying and worrying the hems of her sleeves. The discarded test lay slightly crumpled next to the pair.

             Her fingers move to curl into Len’s coat. “But I m-messed up. I failed. If Dad finds out he’s going to be upset.” That’s a big if. Lewis didn’t always check her grades. However, it was still upsetting to Lisa. She was frustrated with herself for doing so poor.

Crimson. The color of blood. A color that Lisa had come to hate. A color she did her best to stay away from. 

So, her getting hurt and watching her fingers stain crimson, her mind can’t help but unlock darker memories she always did her best to suppress. 

Her memories shoot backwards to a time when Len was in jail and she had to essentially take care of herself. She didn’t blame her brother for that, no, she blamed their father. The only problem was one never knew what would set off their dear old dad.

Turns out her not doing the dishes fast enough was what it was that night. She didn’t have anyone to be her shield that night. No one to warn her of the beer bottle being hurtled her way.

She came away with a new scar and her brother, when he got back, came away with another reason to hate Lewis.

There are gluten-free crusts, veggie and vegan options, and can be made at home with store bought crusts or dough to make it yourself OR just french bread.

Plus it gives you the chance to explore new stuff like, tired of tomato sauce? have you tried pesto? tired of mozzarella? have you tried goat cheese?
