I had a really good day today! I attended a conference in the morning, which meant that thankfully I wouldn’t have to commute for an hour. I managed to squeeze in last minute because it was fully booked but I made it and my supervisor introduced me to everyone, including the more prestigious higher ups in our department. The conference was on our family success centers, which are located throughout the state and help strengthen families by providing resources and counseling. In the afternoon, I attended a workshop on tackling substance use in communities, which was geared more towards parenting properly, but it was still interesting to hear what everyone had to say. Besides my fellow intern who’s doing the same program at me, there were a couple other interns our age, including one from our college and we chit-chatted about our respective experiences. It made me really happy because talking to them was really easy, which isn’t something that would have happened two years ago. Lunch was lead by a live band followed by a singer, who got the whole crowd of mostly middle-aged working moms riled up and everyone started dancing. All of my older colleagues and supervisors periodically checked up on me and asked how I was doing (and of course, why aren’t you eating lunch?). It felt nice to be acknowledged and appreciated.
Afterwards, my friend dropped by my cubicle and ranted about the healthcare bill for a while and I gave her lindt chocolates which I pilfered from the lunch tables to cheer her up. I think she’s one of my favorite people that I’ve met so far; she’s Italian and she has a very open and friendly aura. We were talking about how the concept of sending parents to nursing homes is pretty much non-existent (or heavily disapproved) in our respective homelands because families are considered to be one of the central bases of society.
I came home earlier than usual because my dad picked me up from the conference. He asked me questions about my work, which was pretty surprising. Of course he ended it with asking what benefits (read financial) I would get out of the program and I rolled my eyes. He stopped by the autobody shop and checked out a couple cars that were on sale, a ritual that always follows our trips to that area. During the workshop, we discussed different parenting styles and how they can affect children, including their susceptibility to substance abuse. And I think my dad was a weird mix of both permissive and authoritarian, hence my tumultuous current state. But I’m working through it so.
We went to taraweeh after Iftar and I talked to a very pleasant Senegalese woman whose daughter is my age and in med school. She said that people were surprised that she let her daughter live in nyc by herself but she believes that as long as you raise your children properly and instill good values, you should trust them when they become adults and let them be independent.
For Eid, I think I’ll make pyramid shaped gift boxes and give them to my supervisor and others at work.
আমরা ইবাদত করলে আল্লাহর কি উপকার হয়?
একমাত্র আল্লাহর ইবাদত করি, সাহায্যও চাই তাঁর
একমাত্র আল্লাহতায়ালাই আমাদের ইবাদত পাওয়ার মালিক, তিনিই আমাদের একমাত্র সাহায্যকারী। তাই ঝগড়া-বিবাদ, ভালোবাসা, কাউকে ত্যাগ করা, কাউকে আপন করা সবই মহান আল্লাহর নির্দেশিত পথে করতে হবে। সুখ-দুঃখ মেনে নিতে হবে তারই কৃপা পাওয়ার জন্য। তার ইবাদতের অংশ হিসেবে, তার সাহায্য পাওয়ার জন্য। আল্লাহতায়ালা মানুষকে সৃষ্টি করেছেন। মানুষের হেদায়েত ও পথনির্দেশের জন্য যুগে যুগে অসংখ্য নবী-রাসুল পাঠিয়েছেন। মানুষকে তারা আল্লাহর দেওয়া বিধান অনুসারে জীবন পরিচালনার কথা বলেছেন। মানুষ সৃষ্টির লক্ষ্য, জান্নাত পাওয়ার পথ, আল্লাহর সন্তুষ্টি অর্জনের মাধ্যম সম্পর্কে জানানোর পাশাপাশি জাহান্নাম থেকে বেঁচে থাকতে করণীয় সম্পর্কে সতর্ক করেছেন। তাই আমরা দুনিয়ায় চলার পথে, ভালো পথ অনুসরণ করে আল্লাহর সন্তুষ্টি হাসিলের জন্য কায়মনোবাক্যে তার ইবাদত করি। মুসলমানরা একমাত্র আল্লাহর কাছে মাথানত করে। তাকেই সেজদা দেয় ও একমাত্র উপাস্য মনে করে। দুনিয়া ও আখেরাতের কল্যাণকর সব কিছুর দেওয়ার মালিক তিনি। এ প্রসঙ্গে মহান আল্লাহ বলেন, ‘তিনিই আল্লাহ, তিনি ব্যতীত অন্যকোনো উপাস্য নেই। তিনি দৃশ্য ও অদৃশ্যের পরিজ্ঞাতা, তিনি পরম দয়ালু অসীম দাতা। তিনি আল্লাহ, তিনি ব্যতীত আর কোনো উপাস্য নেই। তিনিই পবিত্র, শান্তি ও নিরাপত্তাদাতা, আশ্রয়দাতা, পরাক্রমশালী মহান।’ -সুরা হাশর : ২২-২৩ কোরআনে কারিমের অন্যত্র আল্লাহ আরও বলেন, ‘তিনি ছাড়া কোনো ইলাহ নেই, তিনি চিরঞ্জীব, চিরস্থায়ী। তাকে তন্দ্রা স্পর্শ করতে পারে না এবং নিদ্রাও নয়। আকাশ ও জমিনে যা কিছু আছে, সবই তার। কে আছে এমন? যে সুপারিশ করবে তার অনুমতি ছাড়া? দৃষ্টির সামনে বা পেছনে যা কিছু আছে, সেসবই তিনি জানেন। তার জ্ঞানসীমা থেকে তারা কোনো কিছুকেই পরিবেষ্টিত করতে পারে না। তার যতটুকু তিনি ইচ্ছা করেন, তার সিংহাসন সমগ্র আকাশ ও জমিনকে বেষ্টিত করে আছে। আর সেগুলো ধারণ করা তার পক্ষে কঠিন নয়। তিনিই সর্বোচ্চ ও সর্বাপেক্ষা শ্রেষ্ঠ।’ -সুরা আল বাকারা : ২৫৫ আল্লাহর নবী (সা.) বলেন, ‘যে কেউ এরূপ সাক্ষ্য দেবে যে, আল্লাহ ছাড়া কোনো উপাস্য নেই। তিনি একক, তার কোনো শরিক নেই এবং মুহাম্মদ তার বান্দা ও রাসুল। ঈসা আ. আল্লাহর বান্দা ও তার রাসুল, মরিয়মের প্রতি তার আদেশ ও নিষেধ এবং জান্নাত-জাহান্নাম সত্য, আল্লাহতায়ালা তাকেই জান্নাতে দাখিল করবেন।’ -সহিহ বোখারি বস্তুত আল্লাহতায়ালাই আমাদের একমাত্র সাহায্যকারী। দুনিয়ায় আর কোনো শক্তি আমাদের সাহায্য করতে পারে না। এ ব্যাপারে মহান আল্লাহ বলেন, ‘আল্লাহ থেকে কে তোমাদের রক্ষা করে, যদি তিনি তোমাদের ক্ষতি করতে চান? অথবা তিনি তোমাদের রহমত দান করতে ইচ্ছা করেন (কে তোমাদের ক্ষতি করবে)। তারা আল্লাহ ছাড়া তাদের কোনো অভিভাবক ও সাহায্যকারী পাবে না।’ -সুরা আল আহজাব : ১৭ দুনিয়ার ভালো সবকিছুই আল্লাহর কাছে মজুদ আছে। তার কাছে অভাব বলে কিছু নেই। আপনি ছেলে চান, মেয়ে চান, সুন্দরী স্ত্রী চান, সহায়-সম্পদ চান সবই আল্লাহর কাছে মজুদ। শুধু আপনার চাওয়ার ওপর নির্ভর করবে কখন কীভাবে তা পাবেন। মন-মানসিকতা ঠিক করে এক আল্লাহর দিকে মনোনিবেশ করলেই আল্লাহ আপনাকে সব দিয়ে দেবেন- কিছু অংশ দুনিয়ায় আর বাকি অংশ আখেরাতে। আখেরাত অনেক বড়, অনেক প্রসারিত, সীমাহীন এক সাম্রাজ্য, যার কোনো শেষ নেই। বিষাদের কোনো গন্ধ নেই। সুখ আর শান্তিতে ভরা আল্লাহর জান্নাত, যা ঈমানদারদের জন্য তিনি বানিয়ে রেখেছেন। আপনি শুধু তার কাছেই চান, সব কিছু ঝেড়ে ফেলে দিয়ে মনের মাধুর্য দিয়ে আল্লাহকেই আমরা ডাকি। তিনি অবশ্যই আমাদের ডাকে সাড়া দেবেন, কোনো সন্দেহ নেই। ‘তোমরা আমাকে স্মরণ করো, আমিও তোমাদের স্মরণ করবো।’ -সুরা আল বাকারা : ১৫২
