In Haja Dhan’ya, Priests and Priestess specialize in powerful and forbidden magic. One would think that for both success and safety, dragons chosen for this job would have a high connection with their deity, or even been Blessed.
But no. In fact, Yannis (Pearlcatcher) and Aslan (Guardian) both have Average potential, and Iridis and Alheran actually have Low potential. Drest (Fae), the High Priestess, has High potential.
These less than immensely powerful dragons were given the jobs of Priest and Priestess to prevent that group from becoming overly powerful. While Priestesses do train hard enough to become a reckonable force on the battlefield, their less than impressive inherent connection with the Plaguebringer limits the distances they can go.
Another check on the power of this group is that they are not allowed to intimately study the magic they cast. While they put in into practice, the group that actually discovers and develops the magic they use is the Scholars.
Note: While they are called Priest or Priestess depending on their gender (those that do not define themselves within the gender binary are free to choose either or use Priestx) the umbrella term for the group is whatever the High Priest or Priestess uses. As Drest uses High Priestess, the group is currently called the Priestesses as a whole.
