Freddie Gray case: Hung jury in William Porter trial
By Aaron Cooper and Jason Hanna, CNN
Story highlights
Jurors in the William Porter trial said Tuesday they were deadlocked; the judge told them to keep deliberating
If the trial ends in a hung jury, prosecutors would have the opportunity to try the case again
Baltimore (CNN)[Breaking news alert, posted at 3:25 p.m. ET Wednesday]
The judge has declared a mistrial in the case of Baltimore police Officer William Porter after jurors said they were deadlocked and unable to reach a unanimous verdict on any of the four charges against him. Porter was one of six officers charged in connection with the death of Freddie Gray. Prosecutors will decide whether to re-try the case.

Jurors considering the trial of a Baltimore police officer in Freddie Gray's death told the judge once that they were deadlocked. Time will tell if a third day of deliberations will bring a change.
The jury resumed its talks Wednesday morning in the trial of Officer William Porter, one of six officers charged in the death of Gray, a 25-year-old black man who broke his neck in April while being transported in a police van, shackled but not wearing a seat belt.
Gray's death a week after his injury sparked demonstrations and riots and made him a symbol of the black community's distrust of police. The outcome of Porter's trial could have a domino effect on the other officers' cases.
The jury on Tuesday afternoon told a judge that they'd been been unable to reach an unanimous decision on Porter's charges, but the judge asked them to keep at it.
The jurors resumed deliberating around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, and shortly before lunch asked the judge whether it could receive transcripts of testimony -- a request the judge denied, without elaboration. By that time, the jury had deliberated for nearly 14 hours of deliberations over three days.
If the trial ends with a hung jury, prosecutors would have the opportunity to try the case again.
"This would be a game changer," CNN legal analyst Sunny Hostin said.
A hung jury may result in a decision to change the venue of the trial, she said, and could affect the cases of the five officers who have yet to be tried, because prosecutors will have planned "to use a lot of this evidence against the [other] defendants."
“Quantico” proves its got what it takes in mid-season finale
Julia Bianco, Director of Web & Multimedia • December 13, 2015
ABC
"Quantico" finally gave viewers some answers in the midseason finale.
“Quantico”’s future was determined by tonight’s midseason finale. The freshman ABC drama faced the predicament that so many new shows face running out of their initial episode order: where do we fall now? Would “Quantico” move into the prestigious crowd of Shonda Rhimes-esque twisty dramas, doling out just enough information to keep viewers invested while still leaving them on the edge of their seats? Or would it fall down with the increasing crowd of wanna-be shows that couldn’t live up to expectations?
With the Dec. 13 midseason closer, “Quantico” deftly proved that it was brave enough to deliver answers to its central mystery, while simultaneously dropping a whole new heap of questions guaranteed to make viewers come back for new episodes in March.
Former analyst recruit Elias was revealed to be at least one part of the Grand Central plot in tonight’s episode, a reveal which should help to satisfy at least a little bit of the viewer’s need to find the NYC bomber. However, his suicide and his apparent position as a puppet rather than the mastermind ensure that getting answers on the remaining pieces of the Grand Central plot will not be an easy task for our favorite new FBI agents.
The second bomb’s detonation in the emergency command central also leaves quite a bit up in the air. Who was in the building when the bomb went off? Will we lose any of our favorite characters? While I don’t see the writers killing off one of the more established characters in such a quick manner, it is possible that a Claire or Clayton Haas could have faced their demise, which would be sure to further complicate the Shelby/Caleb love triangle.
If there was a weak point in tonight’s episode, it was the decision to spend so much time on that triangle, and on the Alex/Liam/Ryan triangle. The decision to devote so much time to the Quantico storyline, which was fairly tame (at least for this show), in such a tense and important episode was interesting, and some of the reveals could possibly pay off in a big way further down the line. However, I still couldn’t help but feel during every scene that I was being pulled away from the much more important things happening in NYC.
The writers have clearly set themselves up with a goldmine of stories for the back half of the season. What happens now with Alex’s predicament? Will she still be jailed for the Grand Central attack? Or will that blame fall to Simon, who did technically, even if he was unaware of what he was doing at the time, pull the trigger on the second attack? The fallout from Alex telling him that it was okay to release the trigger when it clearly wasn’t should also be a very deep storyline for the writers to work with next season.
“Quantico” is clearly still barrelling ahead at high speed, and it’s clear from their first run that they have no intention of slowing down. The question now is whether or not they can keep up that pace without leaving viewers in the dust.
If you have not watched “Quantico” all the episodes are on Hulu.
My Grade.
The Eye 2016 Golden Globes: 3 Reasons Tony Goldwyn Should Get Best Actor In Drama Series Nomination
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE THE LATEST NEWS FROM FASHION&STYLE
(Photo : Getty/Mark Davis) Check out our list of the three reasons why Tony Goldwyn should receive a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Drama Series for his role on "Scandal."
Tony Goldwyn plays President Fitzgerald Grant -- a fan favorite since "Scandal" debuted on ABC in 2012.
We think it's about time that Goldwyn received recognition for his brilliant portrayal.
From the start of the ABC hit drama series, we've always loved Fitz. Today, he is still fans' number one pick for suitable Olivia Pope love interests. However, Goldwyn, who plays Fitz, hasn't received nearly as much industry recognition for his role as many would think.
The actor has been nominated for best actor awards, but he's only won a TV Guide Award for "Scandal" thus far.
With the 2016 Golden Globe announcement just a day away, we think Goldwyn is more than deserving of a Best Actor in a Drama Series nomination.
Here are the top three reasons we think Goldwyn should receive a nomination below:
3. He plays the role of Fitz masterfully: If it's one thing Goldwyn knows how to do, then it's to convey Fitz's emotions to viewers. If Fitz is sad, then viewers are sad. If Fitz is angry, then viewers are angry. He skillfully makes "Scandal" watchers feel whatever his character is feeling -- a super impressive feat that makes the show even more captivating.
2. His role is tough: Taking on presidential responsibilities is no small fete, even if it's just the role that Goldwyn is playing on "Scandal." Goldwyn's character faces severe stress, scrutiny and personal life problems that would drive any normal person to insanity. But the actor seamlessly tackles the ups and downs of being the President of the United States week after week. Also, his role is very different from his day-to-day life, which he shares with his loving wife Jane Musky and two daughters Anna and Tess. Considering that Fitz' personal life is dark and melancholy, we imagine how much effort Goldwyn puts forth to make his character's everyday scandals seemingly realistic.
1. He does more than just act on the show: Goldwyn is a man with many talents -- he directed and starred in a season five episode. Anyone that can play a role while taking on more responsibility such as directing should receive some praise.
The Golden Globe nominations announcement will occur on Thursday, Dec. 10.

As pilot season kicks off, ABC is looking to stay in business with “American Crime” creator and Oscar winner John Ridley, giving his detective drama project “Presence” a formal pilot order.
In contention for the 2016-17 television season, “Presence” has been hot at ABC since the get-go, as the drama was the first pilot script order at the network this development season. “Presence” follows Presence Foster, a former Army veteran who finds herself navigating a widely divergent and highly colorful cross section of L.A., as she unintentionally begins a career as an unlicensed private investigator.
Hailing from ABC Studios, Ridley wrote the pilot script and will direct and executive produce through his International Famous Players Radio Picture Corporation with his fellow “American Crime” executive producer Michael McDonald, who will executive produce “Presence” by way of his ABC-based Stearns Castle banner.

Aside from “Presence” and “American Crime,” which debuts its second season on January 6, Ridley and McDonald have another drama set up in the early stages with ABC Studios — the duo optioned the rights to Kim Reid’s novel “No Place Safe: A Family Memoir” for a limited series.
Ridley also has a top-secret Marvel project in the works at ABC Studios, where he is under a producing deal.
