Freddie Gray case: Hung jury in William Porter trial
By Aaron Cooper and Jason Hanna, CNN
Story highlights
Jurors in the William Porter trial said Tuesday they were deadlocked; the judge told them to keep deliberating
If the trial ends in a hung jury, prosecutors would have the opportunity to try the case again
Baltimore (CNN)[Breaking news alert, posted at 3:25 p.m. ET Wednesday]
The judge has declared a mistrial in the case of Baltimore police Officer William Porter after jurors said they were deadlocked and unable to reach a unanimous verdict on any of the four charges against him. Porter was one of six officers charged in connection with the death of Freddie Gray. Prosecutors will decide whether to re-try the case.

Jurors considering the trial of a Baltimore police officer in Freddie Gray's death told the judge once that they were deadlocked. Time will tell if a third day of deliberations will bring a change.
The jury resumed its talks Wednesday morning in the trial of Officer William Porter, one of six officers charged in the death of Gray, a 25-year-old black man who broke his neck in April while being transported in a police van, shackled but not wearing a seat belt.
Gray's death a week after his injury sparked demonstrations and riots and made him a symbol of the black community's distrust of police. The outcome of Porter's trial could have a domino effect on the other officers' cases.
The jury on Tuesday afternoon told a judge that they'd been been unable to reach an unanimous decision on Porter's charges, but the judge asked them to keep at it.
The jurors resumed deliberating around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, and shortly before lunch asked the judge whether it could receive transcripts of testimony -- a request the judge denied, without elaboration. By that time, the jury had deliberated for nearly 14 hours of deliberations over three days.
If the trial ends with a hung jury, prosecutors would have the opportunity to try the case again.
"This would be a game changer," CNN legal analyst Sunny Hostin said.
A hung jury may result in a decision to change the venue of the trial, she said, and could affect the cases of the five officers who have yet to be tried, because prosecutors will have planned "to use a lot of this evidence against the [other] defendants."

You're so.... interesting. You have a lot to say about society and injustice that's enlightening and informative. You also have great taste in music.
Wow! Thank you, marsofbrooklyn.
It's definitely not something I hear everyday. I think it's very important to have views that aren't common or fed to me. Plus, I just grew into this very opinionated person. Lord knows I've heard "Sheena, be quiet" for most of my 27 years. It's different to have people actually want to hear more of what I have to say. Usually I'm that person who ends the conversation because people accuse me of being too serious. Part of me wishes I could tone that down, but then I realize it's just who I am. The running joke is that I'm Huey from The Boondocks in my family. They aren't wrong, but I still don't always appreciate the joke.
Also too, THANK YOU for complimenting my taste in music. Me and my boyfriend (my iPod) have such an amazing relationship. My love of music is actually something I picked up from my mom. She played a lot of different music when we were younger. And then there was that span of my life where I lived for music videos. So pretty much if it has any type of song involved, as long as the song isn't terrible, I'll listen to it. Plus I just believe that everything needs a soundtrack. It's really the most beautiful thing in the world to me. Certain songs transform you. And the music I play is responsible for helping me learn so many things. I buy a lot of books based on the music I buy too. Much of my current reading list has been mentioned by 2Pac, lol.
Last night at this "after party", which was really a room full of people drinking whatever they poured into Styrofoam cups, I think I sat in a corner singing to myself for a good 40 minutes before I joined the discussion. Someone finally asked me why I knew all of the songs and weird facts about the artists. I'm just a nerd about that stuff. Most people expect me to be working in music, but I keep telling people the industry isn't about music. Radio definitely isn't about music and neither is the recording side. They say it's bullshit, but I'm being dead ass. Radio is about advertising and the recording industry is about publishing and branding. So as someone who really lives to build their music collection and knowledge of the world, I appreciate the love.
Thanks for writing!
marsofbrooklyn reblogged your post:Crane: determined to not look at Nick. Tries to...
he already played that with Katrina. Learn some new tricks, old dog.
It's gonna take him some time. Probably as long as Nick is around he will be stalled by his jealously. Less time if Abbie gets hurt.
I see your tags and I went back to look. You're right. So right. I didn't see it until you said it. Now I feel some type of way about them.
Sorry to ruin it for you!
marsofbrooklyn replied to your post:Well I knew it would happen....first Terry fic hate and I'd just like to say....
Ooh! If you don’t mind, point it out/post it, so we can all go HAM on that ass. Is it on the latest one?
It was anon of course. It was just general Terry fic hate. Just seems silly to read something that bothers you so much, no???
