"Well, well, well," Josh grinned when he saw the familiar face, stepping up to gently touch the back of Alice's arm. "Look who made it out of the house tonight. And without any spit-up on the dress or diaper bag on your arm, I'm very impressed!" Of course, he had to tease her at least a little bit, knowing that he did the same to Spencer whenever he was able to. But his expression softened into a sincere smile as he gave her arm a squeeze. "It's good to see you out."

It wasn’t that bad. Okay, sure maybe there was a lot of blood, but Frank couldn’t help it if he was a bleeder! And okay, maybe he was pretty bruised, and he might even have a few broken bones but they would heal, right? It was an occupational hazard. He was fine. Of course, when he had tried to stand up and winced in pain, his boss didn’t buy his whole ‘I’m fine’ routine. The worst part was when Alice was informed. Frank loved his wife more than anything but he knew she was going to overreact. And sure enough, he was right. She was insisting that he go to St. Mungo’s and get checked out. Before going inside, he turned to her, making one last plea.

“Alice, sweetheart, you know I love you. And I would do anything for you. But, as I’ve said several times now, I’m fine.”

Lily was not sure how she felt about the new tax. On the one hand, she was the type of person who believed any extra you had was best given to those with less, on the other hand, she had friends on that list who she wasn’t sure could afford to just give away 5% of their net worth. She’d never been rich until she married James, and according to Dumbledore’s decree she still wasn’t, so she wasn’t opposed to taxing people like the Malfoys who had generations worth of hoarded wealth, but she kept coming back to Frank and Alice. While they’d never compared income or vault totals, Lily had always felt that Alice and her husband were about at the same level as she and James, certainly a step above comfortable but not made of money.

Lily wanted to get her friend’s take on the situation, and she had a feeling Alice probably needed to vent, too, so she invited her out for drinks to catch up. When Alice arrived at the pub, Lily greeted her with a hug and then linked their arms to guide her friend to the bar. “Order whatever you want. All things considered, drinks are on me tonight.”
