He pads over, a thick utility flashlight clutched like a club in both hands.

“What d’ya want?”

Stephens goes pale, hugging his knees.

“Cleaned out the drains.”

She finds him curled, shivering like a naked baby bird, next to a hole in the wall. He’s tried to hang a poster over it.
