Roman took a break from raking leaves and glanced around athis younger brothers. 13 year old Logan, was of course dutifully raking leaves.Five year old Patton ran around trying to catch leaves as they fell, and littletwo year old Virgil toddled around inspecting each leaf he came across, tearingit apart before moving on to the next one.
Patton rushed to catch a leaf falling over Virgil’s head.
“Patton, be careful!” Roman called.
Too late. Patton crashed into Virgil sending them bothtumbling to the ground. Virgil immediately let out a wail.
Roman rushed over and picked up Virgil, bouncing him up anddown to try to calm him.
“You okay, Pat?” He asked.
Pat stood. “Yeah.”
“What do you say to Virgil?” Roman reminded Patton.
“I’m sorry,” Patton said.
“Good boy,” Roman said.
He returned his attention to Virgil. The tears had recededso Roman went to put him back on the ground, but Virgil tightened his grip andstarted to whimper, so Roman stopped. It seemed he wouldn’t be getting any moreraking done.
He glanced at the pile of leaves Logan and he hadaccumulated. It wasn’t as big as he would like but it was big enough to suithis purposes.
“Hey Patton, do you remember what we did with the leaveslast year?”
“Yes!” Patton cried.
“Yeah, what did we do?” Roman asked.
Patton paused. “I don’t remember.”
“We did this,” Roman said.
He jumped into the pile of leaves, laughing and kicking upleaves, twirling around with Virgil in his arms. With a squeal of delight,Patton followed suit. Logan groaned and went and sat by a tree. He acted grumpyabout it, but Roman was sure as they played that he caught a glimpse of Logantaking pictures with his phone.
How does the prince/princess react to the learning that the main character experiences chronic pain? Is their reaction based more on your own experiences with actual people or how you would prefer people to react?
The prince is going to be the first person to believe the princess about her chronic pain and fatigue and help her find someone to help, so I guess his reaction is going to be how I would prefer people to act. He’ll be the first person to truly believe and support the princess.
