Was so nervous about the speech and the reading beforehand that for a month I woke up at 4am every day. In the event, needn't have worried. Didn't freeze. Didn't forget to thank anyone. And they even drunkenly heckled me. Never felt more relaxed behind a microphone.
After that I hardly time for a ciggie before I was selling books and signing them. Totally got over the embarrassment as I felt so genuinely grateful to people for turning up and actually buying a copy
Karaoke bar til 3am followed, but luckily no photo (or sound) evidence survived. What a night.
