Hot Jupiter and the Yellow Sky
WASP 79b is a planet .9 times the mass of Jupiter, but circling it’s host F type star every 3.66 days. As a result, the atmosphere has puffed out, and this has led scientists to be able to target it to look at what light is filtering through it.
What they found was, that despite expectation, the planet was filtering the blue light, which would make it look Yellow.
This was an unexpected finding, as most planets seem to follow what is known as Rayleigh scattering, this accounts for way light is scattered in a medium, and gives our planet a blue sky.
As a result, something else must be going on in the planet that is not being accounted for. It’s not the only mystery either, WASP 79b isn’t orbiting it’s host star as expected, it has a polar orbit, which poses questions to how it came to be there for planetary evolutionists.
