Barnsdall Park- a couple of blocks from our very own eho palace is barnsdall park (also called the barnsdall art park). no surprise here, there are some really lovely art spaces. they were doing an exhibit [no pictures allowed :(] reflecting on the show 'lost' and spaces in la. regardless, as loverly as all this art is, it's a bit overshadowed by the GORGEOUS views all around. you might spy the hollywood sign and griffith observatory in the background of some of the wide shots. anyways, back to the park- it's named after aline barnsdall, a wealthy heiress who donated the park to the city. she seems like one very cool dame, after having a child as a single mother in 1917, she eventually moved to la and commissioned frank lloyd wright to build a home for what wikipedia hilariously calls "a vaguely defined 'progressive theatrical community'" there was some drama, but hollyhock house and the other properties are amazing, the detail and style, almost breath-taking. combine that with these views :)
